Kazakhstan Wants Investors To Partially Fund Almaty 2022

"Russia has used a mixed model at the Olympics in Sochi. Their income made $10 billion."

For having invested $ 50 billion, an income of just 10 is a failure. Not only that, but Its well known the income was much less than the numbers that lying bastard is saying.

I don't buy Almaty promises. Sounds like the typical car salesman.

That $50 billion was mostly on infrastructure, and it may have paid off. People were sunbathing and swimming on the shore near the Olympic complex up to the middle of last week, and, despite the lack of snow until yesterday (not enough for skiing yet) the cable cars for the mountain cluster have been getting good use almost every day.

2 words: indiegogo and kickstarter!!

Actually thinking about this...**** that would be amazing if it was funded through that.

Actually, if they "sold seats," (i.e., putting your name on a seat at a particular venue) for, say, $1,000 each; and then what if they had a total of 175,000 seats in say, 22 venues, then they could raise $175,000,000 already just like that -- and you could have a "selfie" with the seat bearing your name!! Plus you get a keychain, a pin and a numbered T-shirt for being a charter "Olympic donor." $2,500 gets you a self-serve lunch with Thomas Bach and Shakira!!

$5,000 - gets you to the Medal level - you get plastic replicas of the medals.

$25,000 - gets you to the Torch level - you get one of the Torch 2nds (the defective ones)

$50,000 gets you to the Arch level - a temporary Victory arch will bear your name..

$75.000 gets you to the Statue level - you get a styrofoam statute of your likeness up there (as they did in the ancient Games); and

$100,000 gets you to the Ceremony level - a part and costume in either the Opening or the Closing ceremony!!

Here we go. The IOC, Please don't make a Sochi 2.0 and choose Almaty. Choose the Best of the bad situation and choose Beijing.

Don't believe in Almaty's lies.

Stop it, both of you. N O W.

Both will lie to get the Games, both will spend billions, no need to argue as if there's one so much superior to the other. They're both just leftovers the IOC wouldn't have touched with a bargepole if they had more options.

I really don't understand how GCL can claim He now supports Beijing 2022, but still puts them down?

The rest of us don't understand it either, but we know better than to engage in the argument with him because we know where it's going to lead. So is there really any point in having the discussion with him anymore? Just give up on it and save your posts for something more useful.

Tony I'm an realist Beijing 2022 would be Sochi 2.0 have you seen Zhangjiakou it's an 3rd world city and Hebei is in the medium in the human development index it will require works in the $10s of billions to make it world class Olympics and Paralympics ready place.

I thought you were suppose to recognize the bad on both sides (like you say)? Besides, GCL never said he liked the idea of a Beijing 'lympiad, he only said he thinks they will win. (and thus supports them?). I guess differences in opinion also play a role in the situation. I definitely am sure the Chinese would make the games grand. Like really, REALLY GRAND. I'd be very surprised if they weren't. I personally am meh in this bid race...

GCL, have you seen Zhangjiakou? Do you know anything about it other than what you're read on the Internet. And again, please stop using the phrase "3rd world city"..

For that matter, stop using "Sochi 2.0" as well. You guys both like to bring that up as an argument and it's almost become Pavlovian that if 1 of the 2 of you says it, the other needs to fire back with another argument. Yes, we know that China is probably going to spend billions upon billions of dollars to create a ski resort that probably has no place getting built in the first place. But given the situation the IOC is in, that's neither here nor there. At least they had other options when they picked Sochi. Here, not so much.

Funny, that's all I ever have said on the matter (if/when Oslo withdrew). Yet I've been always accused by certain members here of being "in love" with China & being "ignorant about their negatives". But now that even GCL has "seen the light", it doesn't necessarily mean that he would like a Beijing Winter Olympics. Pfft, go fricken figure.
