Bach Sees Nanjing 2014 As Test For Future Olympic Bid Models

Recommended Posts

2 and 3 billion, is he serious?

That's just for the bare-bones staging of the Games. Certainly does NOT include infrastructure or new venues cost. At most, start-up costs, administrative expenses, for the bunting and a new coat of paint for the venues. That's what that buys.

Does Bach realize or even care that it's not the "OCOG budget" that is the object of criticism? This isn't even the right direction for thought, much less for action. Someone whack him over the head (repeatedly) with the German/Austrian/Swiss/Swedish report, please! Maybe some of the ideas will make it in.

Those things also seem like more than 2/3

Yep, in London it was more like $4bn.

But that isn't the issue. The last three hosts, and possibly going back even further, have broken even on their OCOG budgets or made a profit. That includes Sochi !

It's the cost (or perceived cost in some cases) of putting up the theatre, not the cost of putting on the show that is the issue.
