The Australian Olympic Committee has already ruled out any Olympic bid for the next decade or so. They are the only entity the International Olympic Committee will accept an Australian bid from.

As discussed extensively by members here - including many Brisbane residents - without comprehensive public transport reform and a hugely expensive building program the Games are not coming to Brisbane. A multitude of new stadia will be required - none of which is negotiable as it is required under the Olympic Host City Contract after extensive negotiation with the sporting federations.

Melbourne and Sydney at this time are the only realistic Olympic hosts and even though the 2000 Games were only 14 years ago, many Sydney venues would need major renovations to be up to the current IOC standards. Melbourne is better placed in that respect.

Furthermore neither the Federal or State Government have any desire in this cost-cutting political atmosphere to dedicate $50 million on a bid and then countless billions on the Games proper. And rightfully so. There is little public enthusiasm in any of the major capitals to host the Games either - bar Melbourne which at this time is out of the race while the IOC demands a July/August hosting window.

Regardless of how many "community based" "grassroots" groups spring up - bottom line is Australia will not be bidding for an Olympics for quite a long time.

Thanks for posting though.

Another one of these? Oh and your logo is crap. It might suit a FINA world champs in the 80's but not for an Olympics, bid or otherwise in today's standards.

Now that's a logo. Mine of course. http://lorddavid04.deviantart.com/art/Brisbane-2024-Bid-Logo-326746470

Brisbane does have the dates in favor for them and could use new venues as a form of Olympic legacy. Might even be a catalyst for transport reforms/expansion. I always thought given poor suburban rail planning in Brisbane's southern suburbs, the city could actually make use of a proper underground metro system, the first in Australia. Maybe that's not far from reality. http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/queensland/underground-transport-to-be-called-bat-tunnel/story-fnkbjxqk-1226858771977?nk=5353d967941e46d5b62d0e760eb60367

I guess Brisbane is getting their transport revolution. http://brisbanedevelopment.com/connecting-seq-2031/

Could Brisbane host a regional Games? I do expect any future bid would probably make use of the Gold Coast, rather than just citing them in the bid book, but perhaps add the Sunshine Coast too? Or just keep it a Brisbane/Gold Coast Games.
