Sanest post of the entire thread. Some people on here are just obsessed with big, flashy opening and closing ceremonies and if they are not bigger and flashier than the previous host's then the entire Games must be a failure!

 I mean...that's the Name of the game. Otherwise, if you don't top the previous one...and die in the process, what's the point of doing it? Why even bother if you are going on a lower dosage of Quaaludes??:wacko:

I'm struggling with what everyone's problem is. It's only since KL that the ceremonies have started aping the Olympic ceremony style scale wise. From day one Glasgow has been about bringing the Game

What's wrong with you people on here these days. I have laughed my way through the last half hour and yet nobody on here has commented how naff and crap this closing ceremony is. The Gold Coast handov

Sorry, I'M OUTTA HERE. Great Games Glasgow, but had enough of this.

Lol...I know you are a ceremonial gourmand, but some of us actually enjoy the sporting moments too! ;)

Fortunately, the vast majority of us can manage to get it all into the right perspective!

You'll forgive us if some of us won't be counting the days until we have to see you again! -_-

Who said anything about wanting it bigger and more flashy than before? However, this was a closing ceremony of a major sporting event and I would have expected a little more effort into presenting a show. I didn't like the opening ceremony but at least I could appreciate the effort and human spirit of what was presented. Edited by Lee

Exactly... But GCL has hardly ever demonstrated that with others' POVs.

He's our national embarrassment on this board.

I doubt "he" is Australian. With such appalling grammar "he" is either using English as a second language or recently had a stroke. Furthermore "he" is named after an AFL team and yet when challenged on that fact "he" didn't know a thing about the team beyond what was easily google-able. I'm guessing "he" is some pratty schoolboy living in Singapore/Malaysia (no offense to our board Malaysians!) practicing "his" non-existent conversational English.

Did you see what Brazil did with the opening and closing of the 'greatest show on Earth'? They had far greater monetary resources and produced a show a high school could churn out.

You have Nanjing and Incheon about to blow stupid amounts on flashy nonsensical unneccesary pageantry. Hold your horses. You'll get over the top wastes of moneys soon enough. I actually (gasp) what a sporting event for the sport and based on that Glasgow did very very well. Plus Kylie is still pretty damn hot for a 46 year old. I may choose not to give Glasgow credit for that though.

Well...Malaysia has let out some yowls about using "dogs" in the OC. I wondered about that and when it was going to pop. Obviously, for all the talk of diversity and plurality, they didn't have any muslims on the Ceremonies committee to nix the gay kiss and those Scotties. I mean even evil Putin and the Russian hordes put a longer dress on Iran's placard-bearer in Sochi. Dogs are cute...but they really have no place in bearing a nation's name six inches from the ground. Since I have no access to this CC coverage, did they bring the little runts out again??

I believe GCL said in another thread that he has dyslexia

Manchester did not have a huge budget but still managed a show that wowed. I just found the Glasgow closing to be artistically poor. I am all for reducing the ridiculous amounts spent on some opening ceremonies. However, they do have a purpose...and that purpose is to entertain. I wasn't entertained.

You said you were laughing. That's entertainment, right?

Gold Coast the 1st regional city to host the Commonwealth Games and 1st planned city to host it too.

Er - no. What about Hamilton? If you are referring to just Australian regional cities, this is about as useless a statement as Melbourne 2006 being the "first Victorian city" to host --- who cares?

Also its not the first planned city to host - Melbourne is a planned city. And a far greater city than that trashy bogan rat-hole Gold Coast could ever hope to be.

Kylie wore a big feather hat at Sydney closing too, a David Atkins touch

It has nothing to do with David Atkins. A feather hat is Kylie Minogue's thing. She does it at all her concerts.

Tom Delay was just on I so love him he is Gay too he is super hot.

You totes have a chance at it in 2018.

I actually thought the Gold Coast handover was pretty good- especally since the standard is pretty low (Sochi to PC anyone, Beijing to London, London to Rio). It is tricky for the Gold Coast as it isn't a great or grand city, city of culture or architecture, it has little profile across the Commonwealth, so the handover had to be a little educational. Jessica was a very condifent and talented anchor for the presentation and the use of LCDs was pretty amazing.

I think Kylie actually saved this ceremony because she is a big time stadium performer, who brought her A game tonight. The rest of the ceremony had over long speeches, pauses, acts static on the huge stage, Kylie brought a full concert spectacular with ridiculously good looking dancers to spice things up for the party. And she was free!

John F Kennedy had a great line in his inauguration speech pointing out that civility is not a sign of weakness.

Civility is much more than the absence of shouting, much more than the veneer of a smile.

It demands that we really listen and try to understand the other point of view, that when we disagree we do so without rancour and that we have respect for the other person despite the fact that they hold a different view.

Stage invasion!

427162-c7c92dca-1b5c-11e4-bf72-fc0acc2f3

Genevieve leCaze bombs Kylie Minogues Commonwealth games closing performance

IN A definite highlight of an otherwise cringeworthy Commonwealth Games closing ceremony, an Australian athlete bombed Kylie Minogue’s performance.

While Minogue was going for a quick costume change in Glasgow, Australian steeplechase runner Genevieve LaCaze made her way onto the stage and started busting a move with the back-up dancers before being escorted by security guards.

Gold Coaster LaCaze was also celebrating her 25th birthday.

“The opportunty to dance with Kylie Minogue doesn’t come around every lifetime, so I took it,” a bubbly LaCaze told Brisbane radio station B105 while on a bus back to the athletes’ village.

LaCaze finished fifth in the steeplechase in her first Commonwealth Games appearance.

Asked whether she would be facing any punishment for the stage invasion, LaCaze said: “I’m yet to find out if I got in trouble.

“I’ll probably find out in the next couple of hours but I’ll just embrace it while I haven’t gotten in trouble yet.”

Her only regret?

“I could have grabbed the microphone and shown a little bit of vocals but I don’t know how talented I am in that area,” LaCaze said.

Who's the singer; I find her better than Shakira!

Jessica Mauboy. She is an indigenous singer who was a winner at Australian Idol?/X factor?/whatever, and has built a pretty good career since. You may be interested in watching The Sapphires to see her. I like her - she seems fresh, friendly and natural.

She's getting a bit ubiquitous this year - she also performed at Eurovision.
