Ahok worried, China may replace Jakarta as Asian Games Host Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama has expressed his worries that China may replace Jakarta as the host of the 2018 Asian Games, particularly if the city fails to develop supporting infrastructure, including accommodate facilities for the thousands of athletes. Ahok met with members of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) earlier on Thursday, who informed him that the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) would visit Jakarta and Palembang to asses the two cities’ readiness to host the biggest sports event in Asia, which is held every four years. - See more at: http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2....CYKI3Cei.dpuf

I'm actually liking how they use the mascot for Riau 2012 like this one And I'm also enjoying the simple clothing used for West Java 2016 mascot But our Asiad one is just too weird for me... Do you have any pictures of it? The only Indonesian mascot that I know it's from the '90s is Hanoman for SEA Games 1997 since I was born in 1998 And about Jakarta I've heard that Ahok was forced by OCA to be the main host and if he was never forced like this he will let Palembang to host the entire Asiad instead.. I hope these guys don't screw up the Asiad. Anyway, glad to hear they will redesign the mascot. That derpy design looked like meme material. The logo is ok, its just the lazy typography on it which I hate.
zigzag
Asiad 2018 broadcasting has been discussed. Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) has just held a meeting with all national private television stations on Friday, January 15th 2016. The meeting was held at the Office of KOI and discuss the broadcasting system 2018 Asian Games. In this meeting, also attended two representatives of the OCA. They are Jian Zhou, as the Media Manager of the OCA, and Daniel Hubp, OCA television consultant. Both are explained in detail about the broadcasting system in the Asian Games. KOI chairman, Erick Thohir, said the OCA apply high standards for television stations to broadcast the Asian Games. One of them is to make picture quality reaches 1080p HD resolution. Erick call this kind of image quality can not be met by all TV stations. "Obviously, OCA hope the broadcasting quality at the Asian Games good. As the host, Indonesia did not want to be embarrassed. It is also important for the development of television in Indonesia. If you see the broadcast of football here, it is often to see the camera is moved violently," said Erick at his office after the meeting. Not only high-resolution images, broadcast production Asian Games also requires 51 operational vans, 72 producion facilities and 5000 experts. With requirements like these, Erick stated there is a solution offered by OCA. Which is to use TVPool or combine resources from all TV stations involved. "But there is also a monopoly over the broadcasting rights. That can happen if there is one television station later that states capable of handling the production activities to broadcast the Asian Games," said Erick. Meanwhile, Hubp said his company is applying high standards in serving the Asian Games. Hubp hopes to broadcast the Asian Games in a equivalent quality to the quality of the Olympics. "The Olympics is our standard. From our experience, it was originally difficult for the host nation's broadcasters to meet all the specifications. But, in the end they could fulfill. I sure Indonesia can. It is also important to the development of television in Indonesia," said Hubp.

Ikarus360
Nice. Option 3 also looked very cool though I admit i'm a bit more onto both cute and cool designs. Sadly, it seems the contest wasn't the official thing, though if popular opinion online was the reason for why they backpedaled with that godawful design, then maybe this could exercise a big influence. http://www.gwigwi.com/kreavi-challenge-re-draw-mascot-maskot-usulan-asian-games-resmi-diungkapkan-21813/ GwiGwi.com - Some time ago Kreavi hold an independent movement to accommodate the proposed redesign the mascot of 2018 Asian Games through the competition Kreavi Challenge: RE-DRAW-A-MASCOT, in response to public grievances against the official mascot launched by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KEMENPORA) called Drawa. The hope with the holding RE-DRAW-A-MASCOT, the results can be utilized by KEMENPORA. "Mascot who become finalists has shown global quality and creativity of this is evidence that we are owned by the local designer who joined in Kreavi. "The mascot is good not only that the design should be iconic and relevant, but must also have the factor 'merchandise-able'. zigzag
2018 Asian Games, What Do You Want Indonesia? A classy sports event like Asian Games, FIFA World Cup or the Olympics will certainly be best utilized by the state and host cities. Whether it's for performance improvement, popularization of sports, as well as economic growth and reputation of the country / city. Just look at the United States when it fought hard to host the FIFA World Cup 1994. As the host US team immediately can get away from qualifying. After the 1994 World Cup, the popularity of soccer in the US increased. In fact, the US men's team always qualify for the finals. With the US women's team is three-time World Champion and four-time Olympic gold medalist. How about Indonesia with the 2018 Asian Games? What kind of maximum results we expect from these events? It is better we use the concept of PEST (Political, Economy, Social, Technology) which is often used in host nations in the preparation process. When Bung Karno decided Indonesia to host the 1962 Asian Games, Soekarno's power and political reputation is very strong. It is used to be Indonesia's 2nd political success in Asia after a successful 1955 as the host of Asian African Congress in Bandung. Meanhile Jokowi and his cabinet in 2018, may have already started to have an agenda for the upcoming election in 2019. In an open democratic political system at this time, the Parliament or ministers from the political parties, can also utilize the 2018 Asian Games as a political stage. As a result, populist policies without a clear direction, may can happen. Starting from the mayors, governors, ministers, deputies or senators, all designed a separate program for the 2018 Asian Games. Undesigned Until now we still regret that Jokowi and the government has not yet formulated a strategic economic benefits of 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia, Jakarta and Palembang. It's very different from South Korea and China. In South Korea, the host of Busan AG in 2002, as well as Incheon AG in 2014 was the main focus to the development of special economic zone in South Korea. Through the Asian Games organizers, the South Koreans can accelerate development in the two cities from an economic standpoint. Chinese do the same thing, as the host of AG 1990 in Beijing, 2010 in Guangzhou, and 2022 in Hangzhou. We all know how quickly the infrastructure and economic development in the city of Beijing and Guangzhou. Then what would be obtained economically to Jakarta and Palembang? There will be no large-scale infrastructure development as was done compared to 1962 which is the building of Bung Karno Senayan Sports Complex, which is now called Gelora Bung Karno Complex. Indonesia, although already being the member of G-20, is just going to renovate the stadium that has been built by Bung Karno more than 50 years ago. There is no new settlements build unlike 1962 which has Tebet, Kebayoran Lama and the relocation of approximately 60,000 residents to Senayan. Next is social factors. Because the people of Jakarta and Palembang are already used to the host events like PON, SEA Games, as well as organizing various championships for various kinds of sport, without any appropriate venues, there will be no enthusiasm from local communities, unlike the 1962 Asian Games. What about technology? When building the Stadium Utama Senayan, as an architect, Bung Karno actively participate in the process of designing the stadium. In summary, that stadium can accommodate up to 100,000 spectators. The stadium is the largest in the world at that time. In addition, the main stadium is roofed with "Intersection bracelet" oval and without the support from any kinds of poles. That's the uniqueness of Senayan Main Stadium, which has already attracted worldwide attention. Moreover, the number of electronic information delivery system, including in the athletics stadium, pool, multipurpose stadium, as well as the athletes villages around the complex, look at all the splendor of the Senayan Sports Complex at the time. Athletes from various countries were honored to participate in the 1962 Asian Games. In 2008 Olympics, Beijing National Stadium, known as the Bird's Nest due to its unique design. Michael Phelps, A legendary swimmer, praised the technology used there, while training at the Beijing Olympic swimming stadium. In fact, Michael Phelps won eight gold medals there. What we can proud of? We ask this question is because there is no stadium with the unique latest technology, which can be the pride of the athletes while performing in Jakarta and Palembang in 2018? Departing from the PEST analysis, the question is what kind of reputation (brand) you want to achieve for Indonesia, Jakarta, Palembang as the 2018 Asian Games organizers? What kind of differentiation that will be highlighted from Indonesia as the host of 2018 Asian Games? What kind benefits the company can get as the main sponsor of AG in 2018? Most importantly, what kind of benefits are to be gained by the Indonesian athletes after the 2018 Asian Games? In fact, they still do not have a new sports complex for any achievement acceleration unlike in 1962 which is given by Bung Karno. In terms of organization, until now, there is no official website of the Asian Games 2018 yet. In fact, Inasgoc, which is the AG 2018 organizing comitee have just recently revised their members as well as the structure itself. Asian Games 2018 Logo and Mascot is forced to be redesigned for a lot of criticism from the public. In fact, the Steering Committee led by President Jokowi has not formulated any strategic value and guidelines for the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia so that the performance indicators is not exist yet. Supposedly "Positioning and Reputation Differentiation" 2018 Asian Games Indonesia had to be formulated. Without it, the benefits from Indonesia 2018 Asian Games will be very minimal.
