Due to the nature of how they were picked there wont be a presentation of them in the Closing for sure XD

Jakarta can still do a decent job, but they have to start ASAP getting everything ready and building a proper track and field on their stadium (i remember the one they have is made of dirt or something)

Keeping it in the mid-Olympic years will be a detriment to Asian athletes. Instead of peaking at 2019 for what would've been qualifiers for the 2020 SOGs, they will have to go through tiring elimination rounds in order to qualify for 2020. (Or unless Tokyo will use the test events of 2019 as Asian qualifiers, it really does Asian teams no favor.) Oh well, what else is new?

OCA bans Indonesia Build New Venue To Asian Games

Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) appointed Indonesia to host the Asian Games in 2018 replacing the troubled financial Vietman. Indonesia also appointed two areas that will host, namely Jakarta and Palembang.

Minister of Youth and Sports (Affairs), Roy explained, OCA appointed Indonesia to host the Asian Games on Saturday (09/20/2014). OCA considers Indonesia is ready to replace Vietnam.

"The process is not easy. At the beginning of 2014, emerging issues that Vietnam would resign and handover we act quickly. A month later, the OCA review the venues in South Sumatra and Jakarta. OCA said Indonesia was ready," said Roy Suryo at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport , Sunday (21/09/2014).

But, still says the Minister, OCA prohibits Indonesian create a new venue that will be used in the Asian Games 2018 OCA worried that the construction of the new venue will have a negative impact for the biggest sports event in the Asian region.

"OCA instructed there should not be a new venue. Execpt for renovated. Scared to be like in the Asian Games 2014 in Incheon, South Korea many venues are not yet finished and too forced," said Roy Suryo.

"Later, some venues like Bung Karno Main Stadium will be renovated. OCA will come again in 2016 to review all the venues that will be used," he concluded.

As be known, Vietnam at first given the opportunity to host in 2019, but later withdrew due to lack of funds. OCA wants Asian Games event is still being done in 2019, but Indonesia requested event conducted in 2018 that does not coincide with the presidential election.

Lol, even in OCA the effect of the overspent done by Sochi is being felt. Either that or they're also scared of Indonesia capability to host the games.

Also, they should had been done in 2019 like it was originally planned. That way they could rest a bit more assured that everything would be ready in time.

They were all finished. Now I can't contradict him with the forced part, since the athletics stadium wasn't necessary due to the existence of the WC Stadium which was more than capable of doing the job.

By the way, good luck trying to renovate this stadium. The roof looks like it should be replaced by something better, not mentioning they need a proper running track. I expect something like brazilians did in Maracana.

3.let's make a successful asean game

and that means

1.it's supposed to be called asian games not asean game (originally also written as asean geme <_< )

2.you can't trust a big event such as the asiad to indonesia especially this disgusting person..

3.asiad for indonesia is just a dream that you need to be dumped from your nose.....

Kinda soon considering the few time that has passed since they got picked. Then again, they must work fast due to only having 4 years to prepare everything. I guess they'll use either the garuda eagle or some mythical creature from javanese/hindi culture (in the 1997 SEA Games they used Hanuman which is the hindi equivalent of Sum Wukong)

Mrs Subowo, IOC member and OCA Executive Board member, gave a broad outline of the plans for the next Asian Games.

The Opening Ceremony is scheduled to take place on August 18, 2018 (18-8-18) at the Gelora Bung Karno national stadium and the Closing Ceremony on September 2. Although the sports programme has to be confirmed, it will feature 28 Olympic sports and six non-Olympic sports reflecting the diverse sporting culture of the OCA's five zones. There were also presentations from the Ministry of Youth and Sport and from the city governments of Jakarta and Palembang as well as a debriefing from representatives of the 17th Asian Games in Incheon, Korea, in 2014. The second OCA CC meeting is planned for September.

Fingers Crossed As IOC Set To Ban Indonesia

International Olympic Committee (IOC) is set to ban Indonesia due of the use of the Olympic Rings by Indonesians, because the olympic rings should only be used by an IOC organization in Indonesia.

And even, IOC President Thomas Bach sent a letter of protest to the President Joko Widodo. In a letter dated January 27, 2015, Thomas Bach seek government assistance to abandon the olympic rings logo.

In fact, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) is also sent a letter of protest against the use of the olympic rings. If retained, they ready to remove Indonesia as host for the Asian Games (AG) in 2018. In addition, the IOC will also provide sanctions against Indonesia and not allow the Indonesian contingent appeared at the SEA Games, Asian Games and the Olympics.

"I've been since the beginning of my leadership i'm reminded not to use the olympic rings belong to the IOC. Therefore, the logo was only used IOC members that in this case the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI). In a previous meeting with the OCA has also been reminded of the logo issue, "said Chairman KOI Rita Subowo after meeting with Imam Nahrawi Affairs in Jakarta, Friday (6/2).

At the meeting, Rita not only submit a letter from the IOC, but also explains the rules of the IOC and the olympic rings usage history.

According to Rita Subowo, the IOC president letter also explained that the IOC has warned the problem using the olympic rings by the Indonesians since 2013. As alluded to when the deadline given the IOC regarding the use of the olympic rings, she calls it usually only one month .

"If all Indonesians not abandon the use of the olympic rings is certainly Indonesia can not appear at the SEA Games in Singapore in 2015. What's worse, if the IOC sanctions fall would have followed by other international sports organizations including FIFA. If this happens to sanction Indonesian athletes not only not allowed to appear in all international sporting events, "she said.

^^ Although i understand IOC point I think its rather harsh to take away Indonesia the hosting rights just for that.

In other news...is that the logo i'm seeing?

15869801094_0a460d6bef_b.jpg

actually i think it's not ioc is harsh but it's the indonesians itself is harsh therefore indonesia deserve this punishment so we can fix our ruined sport management and restore our sport balance once the ban is lifted which i believed will take a long time due of this:

Indonesians :"There Has To Be Someone Telling IOC"
Chairman of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI), Suratman confirmed, it will still use the olympic rings logo that has become a hallmark of the symbol. Previous two sports institutions in Indonesia, KONI and KOI had an argument about the use of the logo olympic rings. Even in the period 2013 to 2014, KOI ever make a claim to the Commercial Court level, the article is based on the provisions of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is entitled to use the logo is KOI.
Dispute use the logo of sticking by rolling the 2018 Asian Games held in Indonesia. Even the news reached to the level of the IOC, and the IOC itself had sent a letter of reprimand to the Government of Indonesia.
Dated January 27, 2015, the IOC sent a letter of warning to Indonesia. Addressed to the President of Indonesia Joko Widodo, with the KOI, the letter was signed by President Thomas Bach (IOC) and Olympic Council of Asia President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah. "There is no reason to remove the olympic rings. Anyway, KONI has been a long standing and emblems are registered in intellectual property rights," he said in Jakarta, Tuesday (10/2).
Tono also not too blame to a subpoena, which was filed by the IOC to the Indonesian government. According to him, they could only have unilateral input, in this case the Chief KOI Rita Subowo.
"If Mrs. Rita is a statesman, this should not matter. IOC behave so as to get feedback on their own. They do not know if there KOI in Indonesia and KONI whose job is different. One dispatching athletes, the other build one," he said.
Further, Tono insists there's nothing wrong with using the olympic rings logo on organizational leadership. Because, KONI felt participate in developing athletes who were sent abroad. "So why, KONI is a terrorist organization and should not use the rings. Instead we building athletes so our members can play in multi-events? So, why athletes can play and the logo questioned?" he said.
and by the way about the logo i think it's a unofficial logo because i can't find any news about the asiad logo yet....

I think our government should just end this stupid stubborn battle and use the time to develop better athletes for the Asiad....

Asian Games a chance to

build legacies: Coe

Former Olympic gold medalist and chairman of the 2012 London Olympics Sebastian Coe says Indonesia’s hosting of the 2018 Asian Games is a moment to establish lasting economic and social legacies.

“I had very good discussions this morning with the National Olympic Committee of Indonesia [KOI]. We talked about the challenges. We talked about the huge opportunity to help engage young people, particularly in sports and to create social and economic legacies for the games,” Coe announced on Wednesday. He was accompanied by KOI chairwoman Rita Subowo.

“There is the need to deliver the games in a partnership that gives confidence to the local community and potential sponsors. We talked about the difference the games would create for many years to come. That’s the legacy,” he said.

Coe won two gold medals in the 1,500 meters, one each at the 1980 and 1984 Olympics, an achievement that later got him knighted by the British government. He headed the successful London bid to host the 2012 Summer Olympics and became chairman of the London Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games (LOGOC). In 2007, he was elected a vice president of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and was reelected in 2011 for another four-year term.

Coe and his entourage are in Jakarta to attend the Asian Athletics Association Congress and the National Olympic Committee of Indonesia (KOI) saw it as an opportunity to invite him to the KOI office to pick his brain.

During the meet-and-greet, Coe was introduced to several Indonesian athletes who also participated in the 1984 Olympics. Among them were shooter Selviana Sofyan Hosen and runner Emma Tahapary. Emma’s 400m national record of 54.3 seconds still stands.

Coe, who is currently running for the IAAF presidency against former pole vault star Sergey Bubka of Ukraine, pointed out the need to centralize the needs of athletes in the planning for the games.

“When delivering a major games or sporting event, remember the most important thing is that we need always to be concerned about the [athletes’] ability to perform at their best level, as well as their welfare.

“If we get right to the athletes, we actually get a large part of the project,” he said.

Indonesia was appointed host of the 18th edition of the Asian Games at an Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) executive board meeting last September. The meeting took place on the sidelines of 17th Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea. Indonesia replaced Hanoi, Vietnam, which backed out due to financial difficulties.

“I understand the timeframe is tight but I’m convinced you will stage a great games. I’m convinced you have great local partnerships and the right vision. And it’s very important to keep locals on board,” Coe said.

“I know you have a lot of work to do, but I’m sure you will be successful.”

The London Olympics were reportedly a commercial success, but Coe cautioned against measuring the success of the Asian Games on purely commercial terms.

“You want to be commercially successful but you also want the games to inspire young people,” he said.

The games are scheduled to run from Aug. 18 to Sept. 2 in Jakarta. Some sporting events will be hosted in Palembang in South Sumatra, West Java and Banten.

Rita praised Coe’s successful leadership of the London Olympics.

“The London Olympics created a great legacy with new towns like East London. We are willing to work together in preparing the games in three years,” she said. “We are also excited to develop athletes and we need to look at how London handles this.” - See more at: http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2015/03/12/asian-games-a-chance-build-legacies-coe.html
