gotosy Posted July 11, 2014 Report Posted July 11, 2014 FIFA Officials: Rizzoli to Referee World Cup FinalFIFA officials say Nicola Rizzoli of Italy will referee the World Cup final between Germany and Argentina. With a European and South American team playing, many had expected FIFA to appoint an Asian referee for Sunday's game. However, Jim Boyce, the chairman of the FIFA's refereeing committee, says "we choose the best referees for the best matches, and the Italian will referee the final." Massimo Busacca, head of refereeing for FIFA, confirmed that Rizzoli will be in charge of the match. FIFA had not yet made an official announcement. Rizzoli also worked the 2013 Champions League final. AP http://abcnews.go.com/Sports/wireStory/fifa-officials-rizzoli-referee-world-cup-final-24524421

LDOG Posted July 11, 2014 Report Posted July 11, 2014 He whistled Argentina matches with Nigeria and Belgium. Good decision, to me he looked by far the best that referee Argentina had in this tournament.
gotosy Posted July 12, 2014 Report Posted July 12, 2014 Argentina’s and Germany’s jerseys for the final The German team will play in their classic white jersey while the Argentine team will play in their away colours, that is the dark blue jersey. Germany were given the option to choose their preferred colour for the final and they chose the classic white home jersey for the final. The FIFA rule states that if one team wears a light jersey the other team has to adhere and wear a dark jersey. Argentina will wear their away jersey, which is of a dark blue shade with stripes of blue hue. Argentina’s road to the final has been relatively smooth, with outright wins in 5 of the matches and a win in penalties against the Netherlands after a goalless draw in the semi-final. All these victories were by a margin of just one goal. Germany started their campaign with the 4-0 drubbing of Portugal and came through a tough group also consisting of Ghana and USA. The knockout rounds saw them beat Algeria in extra-time and a memorable 7-1 win against hosts Brazil in the other semi-final. This will be the first time in this tournament that Argentina will wear their away colours, and it will be interesting to see if it affects their performance in any way. The final is scheduled to be played at the Marcana stadium in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday. http://www.sportskeeda.com/football/fifa-world-cup-2014-argentina-play-first-time-away-blue-finals/
Olympian2004 Posted July 12, 2014 Report Posted July 12, 2014 For your info, dear fellow members: I already reported the spam comment. I hope that even if Rizzoli was involved with Argentina already twice in this tournament, he will show a good and fair performance in the final. I don't remember him doing a bad job in the 2013 Champions League final, for example.

Ikarus360 Posted July 12, 2014 Report Posted July 12, 2014 Didn't Argentina also played in dark blue that dreadful day in 1990? Not that it will mean anything anyway (Spain won with the away kit in 2010) I'm not afraid of the referee. Anything will be better than *cough* Codesal *cough* Whatever happened to him. Also I hope something like this doesn't repeat again.
baron-pierreIV Posted July 13, 2014 Report Posted July 13, 2014 Weird men's WC 2014 finals factoids: - the 2 finalist countries are headed by women (Kirchner for Argentina and Merkel for Ger(wo)many), as is the host nation. (Netherlands also would've been headed by a woman had not the queen abdicated to her son last year. 2010 finalists Holland and Spain had their monarchs abdicate w/in a year of each other.) - 1st time two living popes come from the 2 final countries. - Argentinian president Kirchner has a German name. Never before have facts like that aligned for a World Cup. May the best Women win!!
zekekelso Posted July 13, 2014 Report Posted July 13, 2014 Gotta live sports reporters who think it possible shirt color could have an impact on the fame. PS I'm pretty sure those aren't regulation soccer cleats Shikara is wearing
Alexjc Posted July 13, 2014 Report Posted July 13, 2014 Olympic Flag! Salute! Sign of more good things to come! It's breakfast TV for us in NZ, but there will be quite a few Germany fans here giving their support. I'm glad I pulled nightshift this week as I get to watch the final while everyone else has to go to work! Gooooo Germany!
Bezzi Posted July 13, 2014 Report Posted July 13, 2014 Gisele Bündchen will present the trophy. Se is brazilian but his name is german
StefanMUC Posted July 13, 2014 Report Posted July 13, 2014 The usual pessimist in me is a bit worried for tonight, but I do think overall the German team is better and will hopefully succeed in a few hours :-)
LDOG Posted July 13, 2014 Report Posted July 13, 2014 Two hours to go. I must admit I like to see everyone here's supporting Germany
Victor Mata Posted July 13, 2014 Report Posted July 13, 2014 Putin and Merkel almost side by side The CC already started and it's awful
Faster Posted July 13, 2014 Author Report Posted July 13, 2014 Two hours to go. I must admit I like to see everyone here's supporting Germany Don't take it personally. Argentina is a wonderful nation with a beautiful culture, heritage and the first decent pope in a couple decades. Nervous. I wonder where goethe is. He should be hear now telling us how Germany has no chance what-so-ever and that German football is a disgrace.
thorbr Posted July 13, 2014 Report Posted July 13, 2014 I'm supporting Argentina. I would love if the Cup stayed here, in South America. Dar um jeito!!! IVETE!!!! ))))
Ikarus360 Posted July 13, 2014 Report Posted July 13, 2014 Well, the closing ceremony made the opening look like a masterpiece. And that one was also godawful. I know football is what matters the most today but come on XD a country with such a festive tradition and after that bombastic closing in SA 2010....I expected more. Aw well,
