Rio de Janeiro 2016 Ceremonies.

I guess they asked him to do something original for the Olympic Games, not a recycled previous work.

Hopefully will be something new *fingers crossed*

And I am not missing Ric Birch one iota. He has proven to be a bit of a one trick pony. Let the Brazilians tell their own story.

It's not that he's a font of original ideas. It's that he knows how to do it IMO.

It looks like a domestic wind turbine when static...but that's a seriously cool effect when it's moving.

So they're putting a wall behind the boxes? Guess they will also project stuff there as well or use it to hide props behind the whole structure, like the Cauldron which seems to be shaped after a sun.

...what does that mean? is middle class a bad thing? I'm not that smart.

If you are a selfmade man, if you have reached a good economical position, between the poorest social classes and the richest ones - you are a midle-cassed guy. There is nothing wrong in this. But some people believe the government is the one supposed to take for them the steps they don't take. Then, they blame you, treat you with sarcastic, always criticizing you for you success.

One of the joys of a round stadium is its geometry creates an atmospheric, unbroken 'bowl'...my sensibilities are a bit disturbed by blocking off a big chunk and disrupting the 'bowl' effect....wouldn't the favela effect have been better built in the centre and removed during the show? Or is tearing down favelas a sensitive subject!

It's sensitive alright. Why do you know why Rio still has favelas? Because of Human Rights, which at times can be a pain. The city would have moved those people a long time ago to brand new homes, but they like to live at the top of the hills and pay nothing for electricity, water and cable TV. If the government tried to remove the favelas, leftists of Marxist agenda would be so annoying and and international shitty media would give Brazilians hell, like they are trying to do now. Brazil is not China. Favelas will remain where they are, unfortunately.

BTW the cubes are a city, not a favela.

It's all a matter of perception. Try thinking of it, instead, as a greatly enlarged open-air version of the old Shakespeare Memorial Theatre:

You sound like an NBC announcer.

One of the bad ones.

And we already know the date, you brainless half-wit.

One of the photos seems that fantasy is a aegypit aedes ( the transmitter of the dengue epidemic and cases of zika virus) .

I was curious about the ' deltas wing ' , as will be used at the closing ceremony ?

I hope that the CC is innovative too ... I can never watch a closing ceremony for all time , I tiring ... even long music sessions .

"The name of who will light it is a secret, but the report found that Pele will have a special and relevant participation at the moment of the ceremony.

Other athletes, most champions or Olympic two-time champions, as Joaquim Cruz, will participate in the relay before the grand finale."

I'm pretty sure now they mean Pele will be the one who arrives to the stadium with the torch. Either that or he'll be the second to last torchbearer.

Also for what I read on the brazilian SSC thread, they got more pics of the rehearsals which they'll be posting very soon, so stay tunned.

The director of ceremonies , Leo Caetano , told the Globoesporte.com said :

those who have already participated in the relay are disposed to light the cauldron.

This means that two strong names like Oscar Schmidt ( best basketball player in the history of Brazil) and Vanderlei Cordeiro ( pushed in Athens 2004) are discarded.

A poll on the internet gave favoritism to Guga ( former player of Tennis ) with impressive 38% .

It would be nice to catch someone who has Olympic medals , but that won a long time .

How about the oldest Brazilian olympic medalist in life? It would be nice!

Aida dos Santos ( participated in 1960 and 1964 ) has an interesting olympic participation , ma was in 4th place. It is a name .

Both the London Olympics as the Beijing-2008, the first hour was devoted to artistic presentations on the formation of national culture, which will be repeated at the Maracana
