Will they use Shakira again??

Of course not!

The ceremonies will show the proud of the brazilians. Proud in their culture, in their history, in their music and in their great, great musicians ;) ....Sorry, but no way Shaki!

I agree. I think we don't need foreign artists to make our ceremony better.
Anyway i think show some others south american artist would be nice to represent the first olympic games in South America.

I want to see the spectacular Rio Carnival and its exuberant samba queens. There is nothing more beautiful in the world.

The carnival is amazing, the details in the costumes are impresive. This makes me to be sure that we will do an amazing ceremony.

Except there are professionals (who have already done a few of these shows) contracted to take the Ceremonies in whatever direction they have chosen fit to do so. Plus, they have to run it by the IOC-- and then the TOP sponsors might want to see an international name there or otherwise (and $65 million talks), so it's NOT like just because you think it one way, it will happen thus.

So my suggestion is DON'T presume they will follow your wishes. Just so you don't get disappointed. ;)

Yes but Shakira is from Colombia, which is in South America, so she could very well be booked to be there in the scenario that you just thought of. Still, I would much prefer an all-brazilian lineup, or those descendents of Brazil.

But the Olympic challenge is going to be avoiding over-reliance on Carnival.

Yes. The ceremony need show the carnival like a part of the Brazilian culture, like the others points and not be the central theme of the ceremony.

Someone know how much long is the area of the maracana stadium to ceremony?

Question: how do you think they will make the 5 olympic rings during the OC?

Athens 04, Beijing 08 and London 12 were amazing. I wonder how Rio 16 will make that (maybe 5 drones?? )

I was wondering if it was possible to make a tribute to Santos Dumont, the REAL INVENTOR of the airplane, with a flight in the stadium. It seems hard.

The horses in Sydney were nervous....Rio could use araras (macaw) flying  .

Anyway, I just want Rio OC help everybody to forget the OC of the FIFA WC (what was that thing??!)

Of course they don´t have any conection... The tribute to Santos Dumont is a good idea.

Why would there be a tribute to Santos Dumont? Never even heard of the guy...and what does "flying" have to do with the Olympic Games? I mean if you want "flying," then maybe go back to "hot-air" balloons and the Montgolfieri brothers. But not even the French have used such an irrelevant idea for (their) Olympic ceremonies.

Psssst ...it's going to be the rainforest, Amazon, Brazilian flora and fauna that will feature mostly in the OC.

They were talking about training macaws to fly in the stadium and form the Olympic rings, which the guy was having a laugh about because it wouldn't be possible.

Thats a awesome question. Just sydney dont was much crative with the horses.

They also used lawnmowers to form the Olympic rings during the Tin Symphony segment, as well as people with a stage in the Arrivals section. I don't think most organizations put that much effort into the formation of the Olympic rings until Athens did it splendidly.

until Athens did it splendidly.

Well, actually Sale Lake 2002 first had the 5 rings on fire (at the very end of the OC); and Athens had to wait 2 years until the ice melted... ,,,for their rings to light!!

Santos Dumont is the inventor of the airplane. He was the first man to fly.

Thats why the first airport of Rio de Janeiro is called Santos Dumont.

And its dont have conection with the olympic rings, this is just a parallel topic

Oh, the Brazilian view of the world. Hmmmm... But who cares if the airport in RIo is named after Santos DUmont? It doesn't really have any global repercussions, so why would he be singled out? And if it has no connection to the Olympic rings, then why even bring it up? Unless I'm missing something, isn't this thread for possible Ceremonial ideas that are feasible and make sense?

This was the most stupid thing i have read here. London in 2012 showed Sir Tim Berners Lee, the father of the internet. I did not know about this guy until this moment of the ceremony.
Santos Dumont invented the airplane. He was the FIRST MAN TO FLY IN WORLD in France in 1906. You can found monuments of Santos Dumont in France. I just think would be awesome show a tribute to this man, like the first airplane, the 14 bis in the ceremony.

Dumont flew the first airships, aka glorified hot air balloons. However, your confusion with baron comes from airplanes; in 1903 the wright brothers flew the worlds first airplane (or as they were classified back then heavier than air aircraft) in kittyhawk NC, whereas dumont flew in 1906.

The Wright brothers made a great contribution to aviation. Your airplane model is amazing, the only problem is that it does not fly. I call the flight of the Wright brothers by "flight lightyear buzz". They needed rails to throw the plane, like a catapult. Also took a lot of wind to the plane take off.
The first flight in 1903 has only five witnesses including a child of 5 years old. The first demonstration of public flight of the Wright brothers was made two years after the flight of Santos Dumont in France. With some improvements.
Now you can check the differences.

Centenary of the first flight of Santos Dumont (2006) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Jk0haC3-oQ
Both are identical copies.

Brazilian critics of the Wrights point to the use of the catapult they deployed instead of equipping their craft with a wheeled undercarriage. However, it's also true that the Wrights recorded making dozens of flights before building the catapult to launch their plane. And as Daniel notes in his piece, the Wright's Oct. 5, 1905, test of the Wright Flyer III remained airborne for 39 minutes, longer in duration than all flights to that point combined.

Tim Berners Lee made sense since London was all about "young people" and stuff. Stereotypically, young people = Internet/tech so it was a nice addition during the segment.

So this plane flew many times in 1905 and no 2003? Even with the high technology much higher in 2003 than in 1905 was not possible to see the plane take off.
I think they forgot the wind and catapult https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qY2Nol7vHxM

Yes, the part Tim Berners Lee was one of the bests moments in ceremony.
