ofan
That needs to change, including the queen herself having to open the games. The leaders of those commonwealth nations should be the ones who have the privilege of opening the games, not the monarchy or a representative of the monarchy who have little to with how those countries are run. Protocol is protocol. The head of state is to open the Games, and in commonwealth countries it just so happens to be someone tied to the monarchy. Remember that some non-Commonwealth countries (President of the Hellenic Republic in 2004 comes to mind) have largely symbolic heads of states who have opened Olympics. Ikarus360
How about no?. I hope they keep her contained and away from Maracana as much as possible the opening day. Its already bad with people saying they will boo Temer, imagine if Dilma also assists.

Mauricio
Well, Brazil has an Anthem, no matter you like it or not. I'm among those who think it is very beautiful. And guess what, when I hear it - as most people - i do not think about the president. Two different things. Most time they don't match. About Brazilian Presidents being booed in Maracanã, kind of normal stuff. President Geisel - a dictator - was the only one Maracanã received in silence. Let Dilma come in! The World will never forget this.

luizfernandobr45
Well, I don't support president Dilma Rousseff or the acting president Michel Temer. I think brazilians have to respect institutionally the president no matters who is the president. It's ugly booing the president. And the world only can see one president in OC. So, it should be Temer or Rousseff. Both is not correct.

brasilolimpico
Vamos Dilma entrar! O mundo nunca vai esquecer isso. Yes, the national anthem is very beautiful. But I do not think Caetano Veloso singing the chapel is a good idea . The National Anthem will not be associated with the president. But the tune ' The Guarani . But it is certain that there will be boos . - As the presence of Dilma is important to announce that the protocol will not announce its presence , it will be done only for Temer. brasilolimpico
An important detail of the protocol. Besides Michel Temer as Head of the Host State. Also invited all living former presidents of the country. José Sarnet (president in 1985-1990): have recently been caught in recordings with 'interesting' content within the setting of Operation Lava Jet. Fernando Collor (president in 1990-1992, was impeached): Current senator, with six cases in the Supreme Court, the last opened a few weeks. Fernando Henrique Cardoso (president in 1995-2002): Not involved in Lava jet. But recently a case related to an ex-girlfriend came to the fore and has caused controversy, including an open investigation by the Federal Police. Lula da Silva (president in 2003-2010): Well, that denounced the Lava Jato. And yesterday came the news that your inquiry may be about to go back to the judge Sergio Moro, known as 'hardliners' and has already ordered in March to Lula driving to testimony. Well, great guests ... Speaking of which, does anyone have news of foreign heads of state expected at the ceremony?
baron-pierreIV
Speaking of which, does anyone have news of foreign heads of state expected at the ceremony? You'll probably get the So American heads of state, and the Lusophony bloc leaders. When Barcelona hosted, they had just finished a Hispanic bloc summit; so even Castro was present at the OC. But if Brazil will have no head of state, then it will be difficult for other heads of state to come because there will be counterpart to host them. brasilolimpico
Hm .. it is little. I do not believe that the presidents of countries such as Cuba , Bolivia , Venezuela and Ecuador will come to Brazil . London had 100 heads of state right ? By my count the countries indicated by you , we will get 50 heads of state ? Probably Japan and South Korea will send their heads of state ( the Japanese probably the heir to the throne ) . And Europe ? Only Portugal ? Princess Anne will probably come as IOC member and other members of royalty? I hope it is well attended these games in other countries. In addition, Michel Temer will be here to receive them. Hm .. it is little. I do not believe that the presidents of countries such as Cuba , Bolivia , Venezuela and Ecuador will come to Brazil . brasilolimpico
See this article on Wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_Summer_Olympics_opening_ceremony A complete listing of all heads of state or government were aberutra Beijing 2008. They are ambassadors , are indeed kings, princes , presidents and prime ministers. I think 2016 will be little prestigious. JMarkSnow2012
David Cameron too http://www.joaoalberto.com/2016/05/21/obama-vem-para-abertura-da-rio-2016/ But Cameron may well not be Prime Minister by August. If the UK votes to leave the European Union, he'll resign, and if police investigations confirm there was expenses fraud by his party in the 2015 General Election, anything could happen! Obama has not confirmed a trip to the Olympics, all though as a lame duck I'm sure we will see him there. I also can't find any other information stating whether Merkel, Hollande, Putin, etc. will be there. Really it appears that none of those leaders which you mentioned have been confirmed to attend. We probably won't hear anything until July anyways.

I hope you do not make a large box at the Maracana , from the South American which is approaching over Temer is Mauricio Macri Argentina. I believe that Zara Phillips to come to Rio with Team GB , this may bring some members of the royal family to the games.
