Interesting an article comming off the wire is the reason why Suarez wasn't Red Carded, was the ref could've been nervous at the crowd going apesh*t if Suarez was expelled from the field. All this had to come into play.

What a shame...totally blemished the match, at least it's being delt with right now. :(

What a pussy. As a referee you're supposed to have thick skin and not give a sh*t about the fans, coaches or players opinions. That guy is a failure of an official if this is the case.

Here in Argentina former referee Horacio Elizondo (the one of the 2006 WC final), said that if the only images available are the ones we saw on tv during the match, Suarez will get away with no sanction at all, even though we all know that he indeed bited Chiellini.

Luis Suárez suspended for nine matches and banned for four months from any football-related activity

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has reached a decision in the case related to Luis Suárez of Uruguay following an incident that occurred during the FIFA World Cup™ match between Italy and Uruguay played on 24 June 2014.

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has decided that:

· The player Luis Suárez is to be suspended for nine (9) official matches. The first match of this suspension is to be served in the upcoming FIFA World Cup™ fixture between Colombia and Uruguay on 28 June 2014. The remaining match suspensions shall be served in Uruguay’s next FIFA World Cup match(es), as long as the team qualifies, and/or in the representative team’s subsequent official matches in accordance with art. 38 par. 2a) of the FDC.

· The player Luis Suárez is banned from taking part in any kind of football-related activity (administrative, sports or any other) for a period of four (4) months in accordance with art. 22 of the FDC.

· A stadium ban is pronounced against the player Luis Suárez in accordance with art. 21 of the FDC as follows: the player Luis Suárez is prohibited from entering the confines of any stadium during the period of the ban (point 3). The player Luis Suárez is prohibited from entering the confines of any stadium in which the representative team of Uruguay is playing while he has to serve the nine-match suspension (point 2).

· The player Luis Suárez is ordered to pay a fine in the amount of CHF 100,000.

The decision was notified to the player and the Uruguayan FA today.

“Such behaviour cannot be tolerated on any football pitch, and in particular not at a FIFA World Cup when the eyes of millions of people are on the stars on the field. The Disciplinary Committee took into account all the factors of the case and the degree of Mr Suárez’s guilt in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Code. The decision comes into force as soon it is communicated,” said Claudio Sulser, chairman of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee.

I think it's very fair can't really ban him for life

I'd have liked it to have been a bit stronger, but generally a good outcome. I'm going to say three words I've never said before.

"Well done FIFA"

Right...I think I need to go and lie down.

Why not? Third time he's done this, plus the incident at the last WC against Ghana, plus the racism scandal. How much more does it need to get such a supposed "idol" out of the game for good?

Well they said they could only ban him up to 24 matches or 2 years. I don't think you can be banned for life unless you fix a match or assault the ref

At least FIFA were swift in dealing with this abhorrent behavior. There's always someone who has to spoil it but at least we can move on and enjoy the wonderful spectacle that is still on offer. :)

A good decision by FIFA.

Expulsion from the WC was the only way to save face for Fifa...

It's so sad that Suarez is such a gifted player yet so flawed in personal character. Liverpool must be totally flipping out at having forked out so much for him.

Well, Suarez is now home in Uruguay after being unceremoniously thrown out of the team hotel and put on a plane by management.

He's up for sale and Barcelona has expressed interest with an offer of @ just under $100million put to Liverpool.

That is nearly the same what he has already said after Branislav Ivanovic - he should do a psychotherapy...

It says a lot, that he can't confess that he bit him

I wonder if he also can sleep at night wondering "if I was there, would have we beat Columbia? ". That would be eating away at him as well...

Now, where are all the Uruguayans that said the Press, the Brazilians and FIFA were doing all the sort of things against their team?

With a confession, I would recommend that Uruguayans shut their mouth up and enjoy the rest of the World Cup by watching TV.
