Wimbledon 2014

Recommended Posts

So both singles finals are now settled - & it's yet another men's big 4 affair, with Serbia's number 1 seed Novak Djokovic aiming to avenge for last year, up against number 4 seed Roger Federer, with the Swiss aiming to win a record-breaking 8th Wimbledon title. Big 4 finals are normally epic matches, & this could be yet another.

Yup. Kvitova has demolished Bouchard 6-3 6-0 to win her second Wimbledon title. Sad to see Eugenie hammered, & such an anticlimax final, but that was one hell of a display of tennis - Kvitova was just on fire, don't think anyone would've beaten her today :o

Novak Djokovic is the men's Wimbledon champion after beating Roger Federer 6-7 6-4 7-6 5-7 6-4 to win his second title. The result means that both 2011 singles champions have won their second Wimbledon in 2014.

There's only one way to finish this thread, & that's by going through all the winners. So here they are, the champions of Wimbledon 2014:

Men's singles - N. Djokovic (SRB)

Women's singles - P. Kvitova (CZE)

Men's doubles -

V. Pospisil (CAN) & J. Sock (USA)

Women's doubles -

S. Errani & R. Vinci (ITA)

Mixed doubles -

N. Zimonjic (SRB) & S. Stosur (AUS)

Wimbledon is more than these tournaments though, the future stars of tennis battled for the junior titles:

Boy's singles - N. Rubin (USA)

Girl's singles - J. Ostapenko (LAT)

Boy's doubles -

O. Luz (BRA) & M. Zormann (BRA)

Girl's doubles -

T. Grende (IDN) & Y. Qiuyu (CHN)

At the other end of the age scale, some of the game's legends contested the invitational doubles events:

Men's invitational doubles -

T. Enqvist (SWE) & M. Philippoussis (AUS)

Women's invitational doubles -

J. Novotna (CZE) & B. Schett (AUT)

Senior men's invitational doubles -

G. Forget (FRA) & C. Pioline (FRA)

And Wimbledon is inclusive, so there are 2 wheelchair doubles tournaments too:

Men's wheelchair doubles -

S. Houdet (FRA) & S. Kunieda (JPN)

And last but by no means least, it might not be as high-profile as last year, but hey, it's a British Wimbledon champion:

Women's wheelchair doubles -

Y. Kamiji (JPN) & J. Whiley (GBR)

So that was Wimbledon 2014.
