Super Bowl hosting demands

Recommended Posts

I think some folks here, even the non-Americans, will get a kick out of this..

Minneapolis was recently awarded the 2018 Super Bowl. They are currently building a new stadium, so the league rewarded them by giving them the next available Super Bowl. However, the NFL gave them a long list of demands that they have to adhere to in order to host the event. Things like police escorts and hotel rooms. The article referenced below contains a 153 page document (not made publicly available) with the NFL's demands. Doesn't quite put the IOC to shame, but it's an interesting look at what the National Football League takes into account..

NFL had a long and pricey Super Bowl wish list

TL;DR, but does the NFL ask the same of the southern hosts in Florida, California or Texas when they host?

Hell yeah...it's why getting the event is bittersweet. Unless your New Orleans or Miami who are practically read when the NFL calls...

At least they move it around more now. When I was a kid it seemed to be on a LA, Miami, New Orleans rotation. Now California will go 13 years between SBs XXXVII and 50 (they are taking a one year hiatus from Roman numerals). Florida's last game was XLIV and has none scheduled for the future so it will be ay least nine years in between SBs there.

I normally take any opportunity to attack the NFL. But since my Seahawks finally won their first championship, I've mellowed into a kinder, gentler football fan.

The only reason they circulate is because of new stadiums. If your team has a new stadium, expect a call from the NFL.

That is definitely true of late, and the main reason I believe Atlanta will get LIII since a stadium has to be open at least one season before becoming eligible to host.

:D Ha ha...I heard there was a rather interesting debate over using either the Roman "L" or Arabic "50" for next year's SB. Shows you how depressingly bad the news in the once mighty USA has become. They went with "50".

Personally I like the use of 50 as it just looks better and more connected to the masses who can't count that high anyway! :P

Miami lost super bowl bids for the 50 and 51st edition due to the owner being unable to obtain public financing for the renovation and refurbishment of sun life stadium.

Ironic given that Sun Life Stadium was originally built with private money.

the list includes private use to golf courses. Why would the anyone want use a golf course in Minneapolis in the winter?

And notice, they didn't name "Santa Clara" -- becuz everyone will be booked in SF, San Jose, Palo Alto, etc.,etc. I wonder if that's the Olympic package SF is preparing.

Well no, that's because Santa Clara doesn't have a team. They're called the "San Francisco" 49ers.
