No they need to be like 'MERICA and tell them to eff off (JK)...even though they will share the same queen, infrastructure, social programs, national bank, etc. The whole thing is pointless considering they are keep everything they have now Scotland will just be like any other Commonwealth country that has the Queen as head of state just like Australia, Canada and New Zealand as examples. Yeah, except Scotland will be more like the EU if anything. The only things that are changing is the flag and Scotland's parliamentary powers. Aw well, we all knew they would most likely keep the status quo. Specially considering things weren't going to change that much with the Queen still being the head of state and everything. If it's a close vote in favour of YES how much time do you think unhappy people who voted NO will be given? Very little I'd have thought. We can't have a democratic asymmetry where a YES vote is 100% binding forever, but a NO vote results in agitation and more parliamentary time take up by - what will have proven to be - a minority cause. Let's put it this way: The UK will have given Scotland an opportunity few places with seccessionist movements get from their governments - an opportunity to democratically decide their own future. We would all love in our hearts for Scotland to be "free" but 300 years of intertwined socioeconomic relations with England now make the divorce messy and Scotland wouldn't come out on top. The wealth of 60million people suddenly drops down to 4. There will be cross border migration and the benefits of unity will be lost. UK will build it's second aircraft carrier elsewhere? The best practical solution would be staying in the union but with near total autonomy as per USA, and Australia. And turn Westminister into a federal government.(?) The Independence campaigners will be loving it. Such a pretty effective, free and emotional campaign advert for them. Gonna be interesting seeing the polls after the games. Scotland would be excluded, qualification is underway. The die is cast. Only independent Scottish athletes would be able to compete and would compete under the Olympic flag. Even than, it would be difficult because of how qualification works. Athletes in most sports gain quotas for their NOC, they don't qualify themselves to the Games. Montenegro just barely made it into Beijing after becoming independent a full two years before. Late 2015 is at best when Scotland would get UN approval. As most on the NO side of the Quebec 1995 Referendum were greatly concerned on how the economic situation would go. Surely had a sovereign government been formed, they would have spent millions in producing new banknotes and currency for say a Quebec Dollar, which would be growing ever worthless against either Canadian or American Dollars each coming year.
