USA 2024

If LA is merely "nice" and you do not "support any of the bids" then why did you just call LA's bid "genius?"

The above statement looks quite a bit like support to me.

Then again, you say this.

Bernham, the reality is that you try desperately to sound smart and elevate yourself above the other newbies, but you are just as confused and immature as any of them.

I said my bid support is neutral (so I don't support any one bid), I do not solely support LA or Boston or at this point even DC, this does not stop me from complementing the other bids. LA's plan was genius for the city and I do hope that Boston takes time to think out the bid and I do wish them the best of luck. It's the same luck I give to LA.

Brother.

Do you hear yourself? That's gobbledygook.

I backed Oslo from day one, but disagreed that Almaty could not get shortlisted or had a chance if Oslo dropped out. After reading the IOC report it is obvious that the IOC will avoid Almaty at all costs.

Secondly, I have been very open about my opinions on the US bid race and they have only changed recently. I had hope that DC would have a good plan, but also noted that the LA plan was nice and that Boston had some type of hope. Over recent months that faith in DC has been lost. I still do not support any of the bids and hold a neutral view point on the race. This however does not stop me from giving credit to a bid when credit is due.

Yeah, but see, here's the thing. It didn't have to take the IOC's own preliminary report to see that Almaty isn't exactly up to snuff. Despite the exaggerated embellishments by some here (including yourself at one point). Because if there was any merit to any of those claims, then they wouldn't have received such a poor grade in the evaluation in the first place. Same goes with DC. We haven't found out anymore about them, than what we already have known, in the last few months to say that "faith in DC has been lost". That would suggest that there was faith TBW, which clearly isn't the case here.

This isn't the same thing as trying to create perspective with math questions or sports teams being eliminated in a tournament. It's about hypothesis, & trying to gauge the landscape with what information (or lack there of sometimes) that we may have. It's also knowing the IOC's fastidious, & most often times, capricious ways throughout the years to see where they may head in any given race. All too complex than merely just switching teams simply bcuz your favorite one is no longer in the game.

As far as I can tell there is no mention anywhere of Olympic Games. Page 12 of the report shows 4 possible scenarios:

New stadium, ballpark, arena

New stadium, ballpark, existing arena.

New stadium OR ballpark, existing arena.

Existing arena, no stadium or ballpark.

Depending on which plan actually gets implemented, the suitability of the site for an Olympic Games changes significantly.

Wait...didn't the NFL just build a new stadium in the Bay Area? Why do they want to build another one?

To expand on what baron said.. there was some talk of the 49ers and Raiders sharing a stadium, similar to the Jets and Giants here in the NYC area. But their fanbases don't necessarily overlap to the point that was destined to work. The 49ers moved all the way down from Candlestick Point to Santa Clara, a good 40 miles south, in part because they feel they can tap into the fan base in San Jose. Location-wise, that doesn't suit the Raiders so well, whose fans are mostly in the East bay. They and the A's were looking at Fremont, but they're having trouble coming up with a plan. So now it looks like they might have their sights set on this Coliseum city project.

Remember that the A's and Raiders are the only MLB and NFL teams that still share a stadium. The Coliseum is having all sorts of issues and is in dire need of being replaced. The nature of the geography in the Bay Area is largely what is driving these decisions.

I'm sorry to hear of Ms. Sussman's passing. Even though I was only six years old in 1984 and had no idea who she was, her work had a HUGE impact on me and has strongly influenced my own aesthetic as a designer. That Olympic color palette was stunning. This picture shows my family in Exposition Park, standing in front of one of her unforgettable Olympic creations.

.......ok , I posted it here but figured it wasn't quite right. But you know........anything USA just is a huge gigantic jumble of drift anyway. :)

Athensfan....AWSOME PIC OF YOU AND FAMILY!!! Thanks for sharing it with us.

Gosh I just LOVE how LA adjusted the typical colors.......seems so easy but was ingenious. And really just so many facets about what was done were so brilliant and new and fresh and now iconic. Really was a vocabulary of a games/time that lasted and was influential way beyond those legendary games.
