aquaman617
Mitt Romney is on the rise in the USA right now if he runs again then he will be elected President if will be interesting if the USA get;s the 2024 Summer Games and does the full 8 years he headed the last games in the USA and open up the next ones, Mitt Romney been to every Olympics Games since Sydney 2000 knows the IOC well unlike Obama, It will be interesting to see how Los Angeles save the Olympic Movement again and Mitt Romney saves the USA and restore the country. I'd rather not get into politics here. My understanding is that Mitt Romney is working behind the scenes with the Boston organizing committee. paul
H I L A R I O U S (or should I say... Hillary-US?) Imagine if she had won 08 and now Obama had additional experience and the democrats may be better positioned for 16, but the hope and changelings just couldn't wait for experience over celebrity, so now Hillary has all the baggage she always has had and the negative spin the Obamas have heaped on her from their slash burn and attack campaigns. Not to mention she has the blame for many foreign policy missteps as mr Obama so typically was happy to have her absorb. She's more damaged than ever thanks to the Obama machine. And don't forget, Michel Obama was not sure she could even vote for Hillary should she be the democratic candidate and Mr Clinton is a racist, according to Mr Obama.Mr Obama ridiculed Mr Romney in their debates for pointing out the threat of Russian aggression......Mr Obama had NO concern whatever and made some smartass remark that the 80s were calling and wanted their foreign policy back......... Guess we all know what happened/is happening NOW with that.
aquaman617
God, can we please keep this a politics-free zone. There are plenty of politics boards where you can express whatever you want.
FYI
For years, there have been plenty of people that like to say that politics & the Olympics don't mix, but to no avail. The Olympics, more often than not, are a political agenda machine.

The Olympics, more often than not, are a political agenda machine. No doubt. But what I meant was that we should keep domestic politics out of the discussion. It seems that every discussion board these days slips into some red v blue / culture war thing. We will keep a more civil conversation if we avoid talking about the pros and cons of Hillary / Obama / Romney / etc. (unless we are talking about their contribution toward landing a US city as the winning host). khouseman1986
Mitt Romney is helping the Boston committee and that's why they are being very prudent about there planning for a potential bid in 2024 and he's not running for president again

He just managed Salt Lake 2002. He didn't really put it together.

He just managed Salt Lake 2002. He didn't really put it together. His 2012 comments were stupid, but he would absolutely be an asset in planning a bid because of his experience. That doesn't necessarily mean he will be the face of the bid or the bid leader. If I'm working on Boston's bid, I want every bit of knowledge and guidance I can get from Romney. Rob2012
Indeed. I can't pretend to like his politics and there was some schadenfreude in the UK after his election campaign defeat in light of his 2012 comments, but his experience from 2002 means he's surely someone worth having on board. And at the very least he's a well-known face, and someone who knows how politics works.

Pull a Nixon. Indeed. baron-pierreIV
Not to mention I'm sure he has IOC connections that would be valuable to any bid. Uhmmm, yes and no. He worked with an early Rogge administration. I am sure Bach has his own people and his own lieutenants now. So any of Romney's "connections" to the IOC would be tenuous -- just as Ueberroth as head of the USOC during New York 2012's bid didn't do much for the NYC candidacy. The IOC has favorite ex-COO heads (they love the Scandinavians...Heiberg) and others who will just be part of passing parade of COO administrators. It's impossible to say how good Romney's connections are or aren't. For all you know he hit it off with someone who's now one of Bach's most trusted advisors -- or maybe even Bach himself. Then again, perhaps he's got no meaningful contacts anymore. Regardless, Ueberroth means nothing. NYC had big problems anyway, so there's no way to judge Ueberroth's connections or lack thereof. Even if you had evidence that Ueberroth had lousy or excellent IOC contacts, that doesn't mean Romney would work the IOC as effectively or poorly as Ueberroth did. No matter what, Romney's experience is an asset to Boston, we just don't know how many additional benefits he's able to offer them.
khouseman1986
i believe that all of the four remaining US cities have potential and that we should wait to see there bids/plans before its said that one of them is the only choice speaking of bids in heard on a public radio station in boston mayor walsh say that the cities have until November 15th to submit there bids. I believe that i have heard walsh and fish say that around the time that the boston bid committee releases the 3d model they are making they will inform the public if where the venues would be placed

Nacre
i believe that all of the four remaining US cities have potential and that we should wait to see there bids/plans before its said that one of them is the only choice Knowing the way things work in the USA, I find it really hard to believe that a credible bid could be worked out in secret. Let's consider Boston for instance. For Boston to host they would need to find the land, money and a tenant for the Olympic stadium. They would need government approval for eminent domain to seize a size, they would need to have purchased a site, or they would need government approval to hand over government land. Additionally, they would need promises from governments and/or private sponsors to fund the stadium. The bid committee would also likely have needed to work out a deal with the Patriots or Revolution to move into the stadium and kick in some funding. Is it really plausible that they have this all worked out and none of it has leaked to the public?
