Hockey World Cup The Hague 2014

Recommended Posts

Terrible results from both New Zealand sides...They got six weeks to get ready for the CWGs. Will probably make it to the medal playoffs but looking at form, I can only sed Australia and England fighting for Gold.

Unless both teams were using the WC as a tactics practise, once again Hockey NZ is in the doldrums again.

Well the men drew with the Netherlands overnight which is a good result. I agree Aus and Eng will fight for the gold on the mens, but dont agree with that for the women. England finished last in their pool!

FIH apologises to England after protest over Argentina's "extra man" in Hockey World Cup bronze medal match

The international hockey federation (FIH) was forced to make an embarrassing apology to England's men's team in the wake of their 2-0 defeat in the bronze medal match at the Rabobank Hockey World Cup after it transpired the victors, Argentina, had fielded an extra man for almost two-and-a-half minutes.

Argentina also offered its "sincere apologies for this unintentional and unfortunate incident".

England Hockey put in a protest to the World Cup organisers after it transpired that Argentina had had 12 men on the pitch for 2min 26sec of the second half, when the score stood at 0-0.

They noted that the incident had gone unnoticed by officials, who should have suspended the Argentinian captain for five minutes as a result.

Argentina won the match at the Kyocera Stadium in The Hague with two goals from Matias Paredes in the 55th and 56th minute - which would have been during the time when they were reduced to 10 men had the rules been observed.

Hmmm, still totally unacceptable.

Couldn't have happened to two more competitive teams.

Probably the only real blemish in what has been a great tournament. Such a shame its run into that other sport event on at the moment. FIH didn't really think that through.

Congrats to Australia and Netherlands.

Totally expecting Australia to walkover everyone next month at the Commonwealth Games.

Very dissapointed in both NZ teams, although the men were predictably unpredictable and pretty much ended up where I expected they would be, the women finished lower for my liking.
