United States-born forward Giuseppe Rossi also made it, having just returned from a four-month layoff due to a right knee injury. Among those who missed the cut were forwards Alberto Gilardino and Pablo Osvaldo, Sunderland winger Emanuele Giaccherini, attacking midfielder Alessandro Diamanti, who recently joined Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande, and Zenit St. Petersburg fullback Domenico Criscito. The forwards included are Mario Balotelli, Antonio Cassano, Alessio Cerci, Mattia Destro, Ciro Immobile, Lorenzo Insigne and Rossi. On Monday, Chiellini was banned by the Serie A judge for elbowing Roma midfielder Miralem Pjanic in Juventus' 1-0 win Sunday. But Italy coach Cesare Prandelli apparently viewed the incident as not having any intent of violence. Last month, Roma forward Destro was left off the squad for fitness tests while he served a three-match ban for punching an opponent, and several other players have missed matches due to similar code of ethics violations. Prandelli's latest squad announcement was made with a press release by the Italian football federation — with no comments attached. ... gotosy
Nine of the Azzurri players were moved to economy class after they discovered the plane which will take them to Brazil was too small Italy's World Cup squad were left in shock after nine players were forced to downgrade to second-class for their flight to Brazil ahead of the tournament. The Azzurri began their journey to the competition in South America where they will meet Uruguay, England and Costa Rica, kicking off their campaign against Roy Hodgson's side on June 14.And as the nation's players boarded the plane for the journey the day after their embarrassing 1-1 draw with Luxembourg, extending their winless streak to seven games, they found that it was too small to fit all 23 players in business class. As a result, the Azzurri's newcomers were shifted into economy class while the stars enjoyed the luxuries of first class. Alessio Cerci, Ciro Immobile, Matteo Darmian, Diego Perin, Antonio Mirante, Lorenzo Insigne and Mattia De Sciglio were all downgraded on the plane which will also carry the wives of coach Prandelli, Antonio Cassano and Alberto Aquilani. The Azzurri will land in Rio de Janeiro on Friday morning and travel to Mangaratiba, where they will be based, which is surrounded by a tropical forest and is situated near the beach of Sao Braz. http://www.goal.com/en-sg/news/5456/international-football/2014/06/06/4863905/italy-players-downgraded-to-second-class-for-brazil-journey

trebor204
England has a good chance of making the round of 16. As it stands right now: Costa Rica 1G 3pts +2GD Italy 1G 3pts +1GD Uruguay 2G 3pts -1GD England 2G 0pts -2GD If Italy wins their next 2 games, and England defeats Costa Rica Italy win finish 1st with 9pts and Costa Rica, Uruguay and England will be tie with 3pts Using Goal Difference : Since a win would increase the GD 1 or more , and a lost would decrease GD by 1 or more Costa Rica would have lost 2 games and their GD will drop down from 2 to 0 or lower Uruguay would have lost to Italy and their GD will drop down from -1 to -2 or lower England would win 1 game and have their GD increase from -2 to -1 or higher England has a good chance of winning the tie-breaker. All they need is 1) Italy to beat Costa Rica by 3 or more goals or 2) England winning by 2 or more goals
The Tower Bridge Fox
I don’t want to hear any more tripe about the England team!!!!British foot ball has had a big problem for decades now,British clubs spent to much money on foreign players in instead of investing in indigenous talent,Al l decisions seem to be based on greed and personal financial gain ,Rother than with a view to creating a national team that might win,The fans and the media are to blame as well giving half baked third rate England teams there unconditional support instead of criticising the hole system British foot ball is based around,Olympic sport has massively improved its performance through the targeted injection of cashAnd implementation of Kizan principles,Football seems to suffer from have to much money and the application of no principles at all.And this wont change as long as fans continue to say England might win if Bubonic plague wipes out the rest of the worlds football teams. As for my self I stopped supporting England decades ago for all the above reasons. zekekelso
I don’t want to hear any more tripe about the England team!!!! British foot ball has had a big problem for decades now, Maybe time to move away from an English team and have an actual British team. Splitting up the home nations may be good for local pride, but not good for putting the best team on the field.
Faster
Never, ever, in a million years would the FA, WFA and SFA ever agree to such a thing. Even than Gareth Bale wouldn't have made that much of a difference.

gotosy
Prandelli offers to resign as Italy coach Italy coach Cesare Prandelli said he was resigning as coach of the national team after watching his side knocked out of the World Cup. Uruguay beat Italy 1-0 to end the Italians participation in the competition. The Italian FA have already said they will ask him to consider his position. "The technical project failed and it’s only right I take responsibility,” he said. FIGC president Giancarlo Abete also offered his “irrevocable” resignation, which he assured was made before the tournament. “Prandelli offered his resignation. I will call a FIGC meeting and hope Prandelli takes back his resignation, as apart from the result, we did everything possible within the levels of competitivity our football currently has. “I think second place at Euro 2012, third in the Confederations Cup and comfortable qualification should not be ignored.” https://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/news/world-cup-prandelli-offers-resign-italy-coach-180654224--sow.html
