Pure facts
LA proposes what at first sight will be a quite attractive proposal for 2024 (especially if they manage to guarantee the transportation time that they do). http://www.sccog.org/webapp/images/stories/2024/2024.pdf
Athensfan
Wow. They're serious. That's a pretty solid effort at this stage. I admit it exites me. I do wonder about the LA river plans. There's a long way to go on that score. Really dig the logo.
StefanMUC
I love how it's marked "confidential" on the cover... But yeah, obviously a serious effort there.
FYI
If both Paris & Durban do wind up refraining from 2024, then could have a very good shot, especially if they'd be up against a shaky Rome, & silly Baku & Doha. Not to mention that this is starting to look more clear that L.A. is more than likely going to wind up being the USOC 2024 candidate.
baron-pierreIV
[This is silly...to have ANOTHER thread for LA 2024 when there already is an existing one.] But WOW! It's a great plan; great packaging. Love the LOGO. It's a combination of the stripes on the US flag and beach chair/cabana set-ups of old... Quaker2001
Memo to Boston and San Diego and Dallas and all the other potential bids out there.. take a long look at this document because this is what you're up against. Well done SOCOG. At the very least, you have upped the ante for the USOC, and after seeing this, I'm starting to think we're going to see them put a bid forward. I still question the electability of Los Angeles a little bit only because the time gap from 1984 isn't all that huge, but there is definitely something of a different feel reading through this than we've seen from them before. We all know Paris and Durban might be out there, but if LA is as committed to this as they need to be (and I have little doubt they will be), the USOC absolutely should take a shot if they have confidence in the bid. I could definitely get behind this plan.

Stefan, it's a play on the movie LA Confidential... https://encrypted-tbn1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQXoJ7WMJ7bMQOxCHydVzVNcFdrt8E-AFdfcEt7xhg92j6yGaf9 Plus, a whole new real Athletes Village instead of the USC/UCLA dorms...which will go to the Media and to Games workers, I guess. But God, Taekwondo at Disney Hall stage? .....NO!!! Time gap: 40 years...should be enough. There were only 8 years between Tokyo 1964 - Sapporo 1972; 12 years between 1984 - 1996 and Innsbrucks 1964 - 1976. 26 between Sapporo '72 and Nagano '98; 42 years between Oslo and Lillehammer. NOTICE: hardly any mention of 1932 or 1984 whatsoever in the text. he-he... Plus, LA is wizened enuf to know that this might be the start of an 8-year bidding cycle...which they only know all too well.

baron-pierreIV
If LA gets it a 3rd time, I wonder what sort of Look they would go for...to top 1984?? [so they're going to give football prelims to San Diego, San Francisco and Las Vegas ( )? Found one mention of 1984 and one MAJOR typo also. ]

Lord David
If LA gets it a 3rd time, I wonder what sort of Look they would go for...to top 1984?? Why don't they go retro? Have it similar to what it was like in 1984, perhaps with the look of the games being 80's or something like that. This plan looks pretty solid, except for on big problem, TRAFFIC. By next year we're supposed to have flying cars. So don't worry about TRAFFIC. I was sold when I saw the proposal for the Olympic Park! I'm freaking out! Much better than their 2016 proposal. The idea of swimming being held in Long Beach at a temporary venue just because it worked for the US swim trials was just silly. This temporary conversion of a proposed soccer stadium is innovative. baron-pierreIV
This plan looks pretty solid, except for on big problem, TRAFFIC. There was NO traffic (at least on the freeways) in both 1984 and 1996. That's the whole paradox of the last 2 summer OGs in the US. But the congestion of the LIVE cluster (Staples, Farmers Field, Nokia Theatre, Convention Center) worries me. (And that whole Westwood, Hollywood mid-Wilshire areas will be a nightmare.) Anyway, the BIG question is: will the IOC like to go back-to-back revisits with 2020 and 2024 when Africa hasn't been crossed off the list yet...or Europe hasn't had a SOG in 3 cycles...regardless of how sparkling and glitzy this new LA plan is? If I were an IOC member of long-standing, I would opt for 2024/28 - Paris/Rome/Durban and knowing that the SCCOG has been around for almost 1 century -- surely, LA can wait again for a revisit for another 8 years. So, unless those 3 cities don't bid for 2024; then LA might have an earlier chance. But otherwise, I think LA should hope for a Centennial run...and get lucky if it happens earlier. This temporary conversion of a proposed soccer stadium is innovative. And keeping it within a central venue cluster or the heart of the event, is genius. I know your going to get this with most cities, but I still can not get over the fact that the venues are so spread out. In Tokyo's case I was down with it as they had only two major clusters and the village in the center, LA however has four or five and the Athletes Village is 'far;' from all of them. Still this does raise the bar graphically and innovation wise for the other cities.

paul
it's not THAAAT exciting is it? don't like the roof plan. interesting they used those new light poles at the LAX Bradley terminal (planned to roll out to the entire upper traffic deck) in several renderings. the designer now works for SOM, wonder who did the drawings. woohooitsme83
I dislike the rendering of LAX. The banners are everywhere and it feels soo cluttered. But other than that: GO LA!!! (I find this plan way better than 2016's)
paul
i don't think the focus was the look for this proposal, sort of sad and maybe a misstep, a missed opportunity at least.

stryker
Very impressive, even so, I still think the USOC should pass on 2024. Unless South Africa and the likes of Rome, Paris, and Berlin pass it up, 2024 is either going to Europe or South Africa. The loser between those two likely gets 2028. Better to tell L.A. wait for 2028, use that bid as a warm-up for 2032 which would be the Centennial of the first L.A. Olympics, but it's also realistically the best chance for a bid from the Americas. South Africa and Europe have the next two practically locked up. The only way L.A. or another American city has a shot is if the South Africans continue to get cold feet which I could possibly see for 2024, but definitely not for 2028. Regarding the venue plan, I didn't realize Farmers Field was planned with a retractable roof (necessary to hose indoor sports) and that's also assuming L.A. gets an NFL team by then. Even if it didn't happen, I'm sure they could use the Honda Center in nearby Anaheim with no problem. Really like Pauley Pavilion as a preliminary basketball venue when you consider the history of UCLA basketball. A couple other what I found to be peculiar choices. Hollywood Blvd. for fencing. Would fencing be held outdoors? Also, they have chosen a preliminary and finals site for both fencing and taekwondo with the taekwondo finals at Walt Disney Concert Hall which holds less than 3,000. Would the IOC go for that? Would they go for fencing outdoors?
Athensfan
......that's what i was thinking. the 'look' in these renderings is yuk. feather banners look tacky I agree. But it's only a very preliminary document and the Games look never lines up with the bid anyway. I do think the logo is really strong. Obviously this document is just for the USOC, if selected, I'm sure it would get spruced up. I was also quite impressed by the lengthy list of individuals involved ranging from Bob Iger to Anita DeFrantz. I still think 2024 may not be the right time, but I haven't been this excited in a while. It looks killer -- in the best sense.
