I assume Amdavad will return to a more 2022-style programme with having full prep time & wanting to make an advert to the IOC? Is there any sign of any country getting inspired by this to go for 34?

And here lies the problem

Glasgow was supposed to show it can be done less budget and smaller but now we go to India which will again want to show the IOC it can do the olympics plus based on this handover its a bit like Melbourne closing all over again haha

This is my opinion too. India will throw billions at the games and they will be a success however then we go back to the same problem that it will scare countries away from hosting. 
 

Have we witnessed a closing ceremony handover segment as large and go on for as long as Ahmedabad? It was huge and mega. 2030 will be huge

It was a great closing ceremony despite the short notice of prep although I was disappointed that there was no auld lang syne to end - thought that would be a great way to end a scottish games. 
 

I was in the stadium and unfortunately could not see any of the fireworks given it was indoors but it also wasn’t displayed on the screens. I did see all the fireworks set up along the Clyde though. Does anyone have a video or replay of it?

I agree with that. Haven’t seen the Glasgow performance so I can’t comment, but I do have some respect for her. She works hard, writes a lot of her own material and is one of the few Aussie artists than can aspire to fill a stadium tour. She’s filled a gap that Farnsey left as our national troubadour.

That said, and harking back to my diatribe earlier in this thread about (usually female) artistes taking popular upbeat songs and turning them into slow, tortured ballads to showcase their “serious” artistic sensibilities and vocal range, under NO circumstances should she be allowed to perform this travesty at Brisbane 2032. Why Colin Hayes agreed to participate in this abortion is beyond me…

Closing Ceremony, stopped watching it after the clips of Amdavad. Too much Bollywood singing...Pretty much showing who will call the shots for the next four years now.

I gave Glasgow 2026 a Free Pass on judgement, simply because they stepped in at short notice,

As for the New Zealand team. A overall. A good effort with "depleted stocks". Clearly showing we are at the bottom of the 12-year development cycle. Will see some popular names retire now. Athletics NZ needs more funding. It does feel like we are being left behind looking at the medal table and 10 golds didn't quite feel enough...although plenty Silver and Bronze. The Netball gold was totally the boost that Netball NZ needed though. Expecting resignations at the top, soon. We missed those team sports and full programs though, especially anything pedal power.

Hopefully Amdavad '30 will see a better program.

Taking a positive  spin....the Commonwealth Games going forward has shown you can have a 'cheap and adequate' Games or a Mega Games.......or anything in between! Anything goes now. Maybe that means a bit more interest.

 

Nigeria/Ghana I think are already making noises for 2034....that would be great.

There was an interesting article in the Guardian, discussing whether Glasgow downgraded the Games a bit too much- a few more events etc would not have cost much and would have created a much better buzz and interest.

It was sad to see a lot of empty seats in a 12,000 stadium. The competition was good entertainment..
