Rob2012 Posted July 23, 2025 Report Posted July 23, 2025 "Finnie’s signature feature is a horn inspired by the famous traffic cone on top of the Duke of Wellington statue outside Glasgow’s Gallery of Modern of Art" Well, I guess that's a first in mascot history. Cute enough, will do the job I'm sure. Quote
Scotguy II Posted July 23, 2025 Report Posted July 23, 2025 Not a huge fan i have to admit. I like the symbolism with the national animal and the traffic cone reference but it looks too generic and cheap. Oh well i suppose it does what it needs to do. Quote
Victorian Posted July 23, 2025 Report Posted July 23, 2025 Very interesting that the BBC have published this article https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/ce8z910rpezo Quote
yoshi Posted July 23, 2025 Report Posted July 23, 2025 If only the BBC knew someone who could be the broadcaster... (How is this even a problem this close to the event...) Quote
Rob2012 Posted July 24, 2025 Report Posted July 24, 2025 Given the state of the CG, I wonder if the beeb feels like it can play hardball here regarding how much it pays for the rights. And I've just Googled it, and the Commonwealth Games is Category B, so no requirement in law for there to be live coverage... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ofcom_Code_on_Sports_and_Other_Listed_and_Designated_Events Quote
yoshi Posted July 24, 2025 Report Posted July 24, 2025 (edited) That's surprising. In that case I guess it depends on what the Daily Mail will not like less: "BBC throws MILLIONS away on presenters and rights for FAILED sporting event" or "BBC REFUSES to show Commonwealth Games in latest proof they HATE Britain". They'll be the headlines, whatever they choose - I have huge sympathy for the BBC, this'll be yet another situation where they'll feel obliged to do as the Mail says, but whatever they do, they can't win. Victorian Posted September 16, 2025 Report Posted September 16, 2025 With athletes being accommodated at hotels instead of a village I am finding it incredibly difficult to find accomodation for the Games next year with the pool of availability even more limited than usual for spectators travelling to Glasgow from around the Commonwealth. As a Victorian with my tax paying for these Games surely there should be some discounts or the like to support us travelling over given we already are paying to host the Games on the other side of the world? 😂 1 Quote
Brekkie Boy Posted September 18, 2025 Report Posted September 18, 2025 That's a good point - instantly removes a few thousand rooms though I guess with the lack of a significant games stadium and events like Rugby 7s there will be significantly less spectators. Really hard to get excited about these cut price games. Quote
Victorian Posted September 25, 2025 Report Posted September 25, 2025 Does anyone know if there is the full schedule with what events will be on each day yet (such as athletics and swimming what races will be on which day). Trying to plan the sessions that I would like to attend! Quote

Rob2012 Posted December 19, 2025 Report Posted December 19, 2025 Hmmm.... The Commonwealth Games will not be broadcast on the BBC next year for the first time since 1954, with TNT Sports buying the live UK rights for next summer’s event in Glasgow. The BBC are understood to have made an offer to continue their 72-year coverage but were outbid by TNT’s owners Warner Bros Discovery, with the Commonwealth Games prioritising a larger financial offer above the bigger audience guaranteed by terrestrial television. https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2025/dec/19/bbc-outbid-by-tnt-sports-for-2026-glasgow-commonwealth-games-athletics?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=bluesky 1 Quote
Brekkie Boy Posted December 19, 2025 Report Posted December 19, 2025 Just as the games appeared to be rising from the dead they’ve gone and hammered the final nail in their own coffin. Quote
yoshi Posted December 19, 2025 Report Posted December 19, 2025 Absolute insanity. Will be just like the attempted suicide of Test cricket, only worse because a) cricket went first, they should have learned & b) however much cricket has been"dying tomorrow since 1877" but always survives, the Commonwealth Games are on far less solid ground. Can't believe they've done this, unless the BBC offer was negative. Even if it was, they should still have taken it, it's worth it for the promotion Quote
