USA 2026

I'm not being critical of Reno because I enjoy it. I'm just being honest. The members of the IOC are never going to want to attach their brand to the Cal-Neva.

Are u kidding? One IOC member candidly revealed his 1990 mistake in voting for Atlanta. He was quoted afterwards as saying he thought it was "Atlantic City, thus he voted for it!! So, how do we know that a great many of the IOC members are NOT gamblers? Why do they hold some IOC meetings in Monaco which is known for its world-famous casino? I would NOT discount that gambling angle.

Now, a lot will depend on the 2022 outcome, no?

I don't think it's a likely scenario, but if after all, Oslo doesn't get government backing and the IOC doesn't warm to the Poland/Slovakia concept, we'll end up with yet another Asian Olympics.

That would certainly reduce North American chances to almost zero as the IOC would be desperate to lobby traditional Europe for bidding and eventual hosting in 2026.

From winter olympics to anuses. You stay classy gamesbids

Anuses is just scratching the surface (& no pun intended)! This "debate" over Reno has been going on gamesbids for YEARS now. And it's the SAME ole arguments over & over & over again. "Reno is an armpit". "No it's not". "Yes it is. Just look at it". "Look at Gangneung & Sochi" (Adler is merely a district of Sochi). "Reno would be an embarrassment to the country". "No it wouldn't". "Yes it would". "No it wouldn't. You don't know where what you're talking about". If I had a dollar for every post that's been about Reno on here, I probably could spring for the Reno Olympics! And Denver is the other vicious cycle one. I think it's just time to make me some popcorn & enjoy this "show"! :-D

I've been on here since the start of the WOG this year but it makes sense. We can say w're experts but at the end of the day it's up to the USOC and IOC

I definitley wouldn't want to see another Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City so soon after 2002. Let another City or Country Host.

The USOC does not give a shyte about what a 16 year old from London wants to see. They only care about what will win and what will make them look good, that could mean a third Salt Lake City bid or Reno's first.

That came across as a bit rude. Anyway, any Olympic Committee doesn't care about what any of us on this Forum thinks, but it doesn't stop any of us from debating and arguing a particular cities case.

If the USOC is relying on SLC or Reno to "make them look good" then things are truly desperate.

Who do you think the USOC should go with? Denver? Because there are issues there that are just as great, possibly moreso, than whatever SLC or Reno present.

I don't think the US has a good Winter candidate right now, certainly not one that will "make them look good."

Of the available options, I think Denver is the only one that is halfway decent. It certainly has it's problems, but I think that all things considered the events of 50 years ago are not as big a handicap as the obstacles others face.

This whole thread is out of place though since the USOC has made it clear that 2024 is the only priority right now.

If I were the USOC, I wouldn't bid for anything until the 2032 race.

@ baron, it's impossible to take any American Sports Organization seriously because their strategic timing and planning sucks. Anyone with sense would never had bid for 2012 other than a high profile European city, yet we bid with NYC...and lost. Chicago 2016 was better, but they should have attempted to fix the relationship earlier.

Bernham, everything past is easy to 2nd-guess afterwards...I don't fault the New York bidding. Ya know, you bid with what you have...

i realize durban needs a backup in case something happens or the bid just falls apart at the home stretch a la NYC2012, but that's what rome and paris are for. 2026 is a much more interesting conversation to have.

Why?

I mean that sincerely.

Geopolitically the US is well positioned for 2026, but it would scupper any summer aspirations indefinitely. Plus, there really isn't a good- looking candidate.

Hence, my belief all American bidding should be tabled until 2032.

2012 was a unique window of opportunity for NYC. it was worth trying, even if the odds were against it.

You don't just bid when you think you are near certain to win. You have to take chances.

How about we bid for and win LA 2024. Then would it be OK to start bidding for a WOG?

I think it would be easier to get two Games in close succession if the SOG is first, rather than the other way around. I still think the IOC will want at least a 10 year gap and probably more like 14. But there are fewer options for WOGs so the odds are better.
