zekekelso Posted June 7, 2015 Report Posted June 7, 2015 Baron, if you'd ever tried to buy tickets for a "foreign" OG your belief in Olympic altruism would quickly disappear. When it comes to ticket sales, FIFA is actually far better than the IOC.
baron-pierreIV Posted June 7, 2015 Report Posted June 7, 2015 Baron, if you'd ever tried to buy tickets for a "foreign" OG your belief in Olympic altruism would quickly disappear. When it comes to ticket sales, FIFA is actually far better than the IOC. I got two OC seats for Barcelona; no prob. And I know that was way before the OC's became, to use a pun, a "hot ticket." Never even tried again. I can see how FIFA tickets are easier to get hold of -- because it is only ONE sport.
Viewer2012 Posted June 7, 2015 Report Posted June 7, 2015 Oh, OK. That I understand. So LOCOG-Ticketing did not have safeguards to prevent such quick repeat buying (if from the same credit card). Well, maybe Rio and following COJOs will have safeguards to NOT make it that easy. That's my whole point. They (TICKETING for you, Viewer, since you were pretending to be obtuse...) should try to make it available to as many people as they can. Of course, in an ideal world, it would be. But if people don't try again after first refusals, then indeed the allocation becomes selective and NOT widespread. I UNDERSTAND the difference between "ideal" and "real." But I am dealing from the "ideal" POV since I believe in the OG's altruism. If one were to deal from the "real" POV, then why should the average fan (or 1-time ticket-buyer) even bother to try and get any premium ticket at all. Sorry that NOT all of us are as well-connected in going to the Games as you. Bully for you!! I'm not connected at all! I just love attending the Games, and have since a friend invited me to LA when I was fresh out of college in '84. I've learned what I have only from reading and talking with other fans. Almost all of my tickets have been purchased through the U.S. ATR, first Cartan, now Cosport. At least from a U.S. perspective, tickets have become more difficult to obtain. From Barcelona through Athens, maybe 80% of my initial ticket request was simply filled during the initial ballot. In almost every case, most of the remainder were filled in a second ballot. Beginning with Beijing, though, the supply at least of standalone tickets available through the U.S. ATR became more scarce. I've supplemented by getting some tickets from friends in the EEA, an area about which Volshy knows a great deal, and in a couple of cases eBay (e.g., a hard to find Diving ticket in Beijing, bought from someone in Japan). The first Cosport ballot this year, though, was the very worst so far Like almost everyone else from whom we've heard, I got just a few tickets. Maybe this is due to higher demand, but I think US travelers were far more likely to want to attend in London than in Rio. Could be worldwide demand, or Brazilian demand. Could be the Organizing Committee or the ATR. Very hard to know. Oh, and I believe in the Olympic spirit. It's what makes each Games so fantastic! But it doesn't guide the flesh and blood people who run the Games, except in a few cases (maybe Seb Coe?), and even then, only in a way that is unfortunately compromised by the demands surrounding the reality that this is a multi billion dollar business.
Hansfromdenmark Posted June 7, 2015 Report Posted June 7, 2015 I have no experience with Olympic tickets. But the World in general is getting more and more open and easier to travel round the globe. I believe it has a very big issue and the demands rices naturally. Travelling is being more normal, than it was 20 years ago.Personally I have only been on a plane 2 times, Copenhagen - Berlin and back. And I was a wreck... So I really really really hope that Hamburg gets 2024, now no one (other than me) believes on an Olympic Games in Copenhagen. But on the other hands, after reading all about tickets in this forum, I´m affraid it would be very very hard to get and Watch anything.
JustTickingAway Posted June 9, 2015 Report Posted June 9, 2015 I bought that many tickets for the 2012 OC quite close to the event. They were circa £50 each (can't remember but thereabouts), restricted view (which wasn't an issue at all). There were a ton of empty seats at that ceremony too. Over 1,000. Unsold. Do you think if you just showed up they would have tix available day of? I went to the opening of the track stadium in London - which said it was sold out, so we just showed up and were able to get tix for free from a guy at the box office. And inside there were a ton of empty seats. Obviously it was in a completely different caliber than an actual Olympic OC. But its frustrating with so many people wanting tix that there are empty seast!
baron-pierreIV Posted June 9, 2015 Report Posted June 9, 2015 But its frustrating with so many people wanting tix that there are empty seast! That can only mean that the rumors of not-available Tix override the actual demand for tickets.
Viewer2012 Posted June 9, 2015 Report Posted June 9, 2015 Box office rarely has decent day-of seats. Usually no seats. Athens was an exception, but the number of spectators was low due to post 9/11 concerns and reports of unpreparedness. In my experience, empty seats does not mean available tickets. It means ticketed VIP no-shows, or unused tickets set aside for VIPs.
scoobiesnacks Posted June 9, 2015 Author Report Posted June 9, 2015 There is always a bunch of seats set aside for "games family" ie people with Olympic badges. They nearly always get that figure wrong as the seats are free, unreserved so no shows are the norm.
Chateau Petrus Posted June 10, 2015 Report Posted June 10, 2015 Less than four hours before the closing of Phase 2 with Cosport 20 tickets asked : 2 Athletics Finals 2 Swimmiing Finals 2 Swimming Qual. 4 Gymnastic Finals 3 Gymnastic Qual. 2 Canoe-Kayak Finals 1 Rowing Finals 1 Weightlifting Finals 2 BeachVolleynall Qual. 1 Volleyball semi-final I now cross my fingers and hope for the results next monday
Usa2024olympics Posted June 10, 2015 Report Posted June 10, 2015 Requested 36 tickets: 2 gymnastics finals 4 tennis 4 basketball prelims 4 swimming qualification 2 swimming final 8 volleyball prelims 8 beach volleyball 4 water polo
danM Posted June 10, 2015 Report Posted June 10, 2015 Tickets through the French Olympic Committee go on sale tomorrow, so fingers crossed for some luck there! I'm a bit worried though - I've applied for a fair few tickets through sportsworld, but won't find out whether I've got those till the end of the month. (These have already been paid for and the money is then refunded if you are unsuccessful). Should I just go ahead and try and get tickets tomorrow for events that I could then potentially also get tickets for through Sportsworld too? I'm just concerned about ending up with duplicates. Presumably I'll be able to sell them on through some kind of official reseller? The Sportsworld tickets I've applied for are pretty high-key events anyway (OC, track cycling, swimming etc) so I'd be surprised if I got any to be honest, but from previous Games does anyone know whether you can sell tickets on in if I did end up with 2 sets for the same event? Apologies for the long post!
scoobiesnacks Posted June 10, 2015 Author Report Posted June 10, 2015 There is no official reseller for ATR sourced tickets
danM Posted June 11, 2015 Report Posted June 11, 2015 Ah ok - but surely if I did end up with 2 sets of tickets to something like track cycling, there'd be a way to sell them? To someone on here maybe! Haha
baron-pierreIV Posted June 11, 2015 Report Posted June 11, 2015 Ah ok - but surely if I did end up with 2 sets of tickets to something like track cycling, there'd be a way to sell them? To someone on here maybe! Haha You can probably sell them right there at the venue. Or Rio might set up some sort of official Ticket Exchange booth or something where legitimate tickets can be exchanged or unloaded to someone else.
scoobiesnacks Posted June 11, 2015 Author Report Posted June 11, 2015 You can probably sell them right there at the venue. I've not seen a ticket exchange booth at the olympics I've been to. Sell on here.
NOC Posted June 11, 2015 Report Posted June 11, 2015 Do not sell on the street in brazil you will be arrested or you will have to pay your way out If you do sell do not sell for more than what you paid or its in breach of the ticket but remember your legally responsible for the ticket. If your ticket is found in the street even if you sold it to someone else and it's tracked back to an ATR they have to report who they sold the ticket to and they can cancel all your remaining tickets - it has happened in both London and Beijing so be very careful! Only sell your tickets you don't need to people you can trust and they have to come from the same territory you ticket was secured from as well or the ATR gets in trouble they in turn would cancel your remaining tickets
scoobiesnacks Posted June 11, 2015 Author Report Posted June 11, 2015 Selling on here, at cost price is safe in my limited experience.
Chateau Petrus Posted June 11, 2015 Report Posted June 11, 2015 In the past (for Beijing and Vancouver) I made somes trades here on Gamesbids with some of my extra tickets. For Rio, I need desesperatelly RO007 and RO008 (Rowing) wich were not offered in Cosport Phase 2 So, if I got extra tickets from Cosport for Swimming Finals, I may keep them to make trades for the Rowing tickets I want.
zekekelso Posted June 11, 2015 Report Posted June 11, 2015 Trust me, getting too many tickets for track cycling is something you should never worry about.
Citizen-Seth Posted June 11, 2015 Report Posted June 11, 2015 I've sold or traded tickets are Beijing, Vancouver, and London. In London I sold an extra pair of tickets to a French couple. We met on the street and then stepped into a nearby bookstore. Also at London, I ended up selling a diving ticket I had at the entry gate to the aquatics arena. A woman was looking for a ticket as a family member was on the UK team. She even had one of the volunteers announce it over her megaphone that she was looking for an extra ticket. I walked over and he told us that as long as I asked the face value of the ticket, everything was okay. Not sure if that was bending the rules or breaking them, but if you need to sell tickets at the Games, it's absolutely possible so long as you're not an idiot about it.
drupha Posted June 12, 2015 Report Posted June 12, 2015 Cosport people, one of the things someone figured out on another forum, if you log in and check your ticket request, you'll (hopefully) notice some marked blue instead of gray, which is believed to indicate the tickets you got selected for.
drupha Posted June 12, 2015 Report Posted June 12, 2015 What kind of a stupid comment is that?? "They" would be the Organizing Committee, who else? If the distribution is done fairly, then there is NO NEED to do any audits. Duh. "Distributed fairly and evenly," then why do they announce that over-subscribed events like the OCs go into a lottery? Why are there allocations based on previous demands? Unless of course, it's all a lie. Then the IOC is no better than FIFA. Sorry, if I'm not on the same cynical barometer as you must be on. I'm shocked that you can have this many posts and still be this naive on how the Olympics work! The only thing that's "fair" is that money = access...
zekekelso Posted June 13, 2015 Report Posted June 13, 2015 Cosport people, one of the things someone figured out on another forum, if you log in and check your ticket request, you'll (hopefully) notice some marked blue instead of gray, which is believed to indicate the tickets you got selected for. If that's true, then I'm 0-11 this phase, following up on my 0-17 in the first phase.
Chateau Petrus Posted June 13, 2015 Report Posted June 13, 2015 Disappointed a little Asked 20 events on 12 differents orders Got only 12 events to add to my agenda 1 Athletics Final 2 Gymnastic Final 3 Gymnastic Qual 1 Swimming Qual 1 Weightlifting Final 1 Volleyball Semi-Final 1 Beach Volleyball Qual. 1 Rowing Final 1 CanoeKayak Final Somes duplicata on my twelve orders : got 7 times the same event (qualif, Gymnastic) and 3 others events with 2 tickets and two with 3 (mostly qual.) So, a big total for me of 25 on 240. (around 1 on 10 ratio)
JustTickingAway Posted June 13, 2015 Report Posted June 13, 2015 There is nothing in my accounts, just a big fat $0. I don't even see the events I requested... just hoping this is a hiccup and maybe we still have a chance we got some!
