Name one thing that other cities in the USA have. That Detroit doesn’t have.

1 Crime

2. Corruption

3. Roads falling a part

It would force the federal government to invest it would be great for Detroit

Detroit 2024

I can think of 1 thing.. money. Detroit doesn't have any of that now. They filed for bankruptcy. So you want the federal government to invest billions upon billions of dollars for a 2 1/2 week sports festival in Detroit as if that's going to revive the city? Get real. Yea, the government bailed out the auto industry. That was to benefit the economy of the entire country, not to fund a city's effort to host an Olympics when they're $18 billion in debt.

Once again, this site loses a little more credibility in the hopes that folks could take it more seriously.

Issues with a Detroit bid:

  • It is the most disliked city in America. Few people in the US are going to want to go there. At least with the Detroit Super Bowl you had die hard fans who would travel anywhere to see their team play for a championship. I doubt you get that for athletics.
  • The local population is poor, and won't be able to pay high prices for tickets.
  • The games suck money OUT of the local economy, not pump it in. Detroit does not have a lot of skilled labor, and the vast majority of the architects, engineers, IT people, etc would come from outside the city and take their earnings back with them. You are asking a bankrupt city to spend more money on something that amounts to a three week party.
  • The money would be spent on things the local people would not be interested in/could not afford afterwards. It would be another Athens in terms of white elephant venues
  • If the IOC doesn't want to go to Chicago or New York, why in hades would they be interested in what many consider the worst city in America?

So by saying what you just said why would any city want the Olympics? The money would come from the Feds to help the city all of the old sites would torn down and state of the art sites would go up. The poor can't afford to go to the Olympics any way. Their are many cities in the US almost bankrupt. Then the USA is not a safe bet for the IOC.

Even the Pan Ams would be a stretch. The city's officials would no doubt want to convert all those abandoned buildings into apartments, hotels and so forth, which would make such an endeavor a costly thing.

It could joint host for the Pan Ams with Windsor, Ontario if it wanted to share the costs, but I doubt they'd even want that event anyways.

This is a trolling post or seriously this is one of the saddest levels of delusional dreams in gamesbids forum.

Keep dreaming on that. You can't make the absurd example of General Motors, when the auto industry is one of the KEY american industries with long traditions and financial implications. This was a FEDERAL ISSUE.

The poor can't afford to go to the Olympics any way.

Possible, but no when the Detroit faces a 50% of unemployement, filed bankruptcy and terrible public services, with the talented people emigrating and a city close of the chaos. What kind of employements will the Olympics bring to these people? What type of funtional infrastructure and venues? Can you guaranteed the money from visitors will stay forever? Your logic is, at best words, flawed with many cheese holes. If Madrid, using the SAME excuses can't win...

Their are many cities in the US almost bankrupt.

Still no of all these cities can't be olympic isn't it? NYC, LA and Chicago are different, not only because they are the three biggest cities of the American Union, also, these are three of the privileged twelve cities with the biggest GDP in the world -Alongside Tokyo, Paris, London, Seoul, Osaka, Moscow, Shanghai and Sao Paulo-. These cities have more money than some small countries. They have the resources and the influence. If the IOC didn't choose Chicago or NYC, how can they choose a decadent city far away of glorious times like Detroit?

This makes Tulsa seem achievable! I donate one dollar to the GB Tulsa swear jar!

If anything New Orleans would have a much better case than Detroit. Throw in Katrina, some Southern money, and recial diversity and you've got the American version of Istanbul at your doorstep.

Because they thought if they invested enough, and built enough they could achieve Olympic status. Better shut down this dream until it brings the whole nation down. In order for this to happen the nation would want to help Detroit and spend money we sure as hell do not have on some two week special...but if Detroit got this woman for mayor, I'll be open for discussions:

If Detroit did host the games would Robocop help with security?

Robocop-Remake.jpg

I think they would need to bring in the autobots as well as the justice league for that place to be remotely safe

a drive by shooting range would leave a lasting legacy!

Please dont ban me
