Parrot is absolutely on fire right now (won a FIS world cup, X Games big air and X Games slopestyle in his last three contests). If McMorris isn't on form then Parrot will have to be the favourite. Fox334 Posted February 3, 2014 Report Share Posted February 3, 2014 The riders are reportedly very unhappy with the course due to it being dangerous. The jibs are too tight and the jumps too big. Torstein Horgmo, one of the favorites in men's snowboard slopestyle, broke his collar on the first day of official training and he's obviously out. She says there are changes that need to be made but overall she says its a good if challenging course. Hopefully once they fix the jumps the course will be better reviewed by athletes. How many competitors qualify from the qualification round to semifinals, how many qualify for the final, do scores carry over, etc? I have not been able to find these details. Since the Qualification Round is the first event on Thursday, I don't want to wake up at 1:30am (East coast in USA) to watch the qualifying round of men's snowboarding slopestyle if none of the competitors get eliminated. Thank you very much! 30 men and 24 women take part. The qualification, semi-finals are finals all consist of two runs, with the best run counting. The scores do not carry over from qualifying to the semi-final or the final. The top 8 finishers from the qualification qualify for the final. Everyone else competes in the semi-final, and the top 4 from the semi-final compete in the final. So weirdly nobody is eliminated in the qualification, but that's where 2/3 of the slots in the final will be decided. You might want to just set your DVR. The slopestyle course is apparently demanding and should hopefully induce a bit of creativity. But no more injuries now, please. Terje Håkonsen is cited in newspapers here being very critical to how standardized and "olympified" snowboard has become. Sage is prob the athlete who's closest to Terje in "ideology" among the competitors in the olympics and he was very positive of the course, so maybe there's some light after all. So Horgmo and Sjåstad Christensen are both out with injuries. Big blow to norway's medal chances in snowboard and freestyle skiing. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The British coach claims White was struglibg mightilly and hasn't managed to land anything more than a 720(!). Its just shaneful that he decided to not compete now considering there could have been another athlete on the US team had he made that decision a few weeks ago. Since White left slopestyle in 2009, the event has passed him by with the top athletes doing things that White has never done before. Add in the American media hyping up White in the event and his financial brand, it would have been damaging for him to not win or even medal.
