intoronto
I still believe we need to have a minor Commonwealth Games winter carnival of a week long with just skiing and rink sports including figure skating. Alternating between Canada, NZ and Australia. If those three can agree to it, why not.
micheal_warren
I agree with anything to get our winter Olympians more competitive.
Durban Sandshark
I don't see why not either. Why not also add the odd South African, Jamaicans, Indian, Pakistani, Cypriot, and Maltese in the mix too to build more international experience, depth, and competitveness for them? micheal_warren
I read in the paper here in New Zealand today that we are looking at signing some bilateral sports agreements with the Canadians and Dutch. This sounds promising.
Alexjc
Need to do something, listening to Hosking ZB, and he nailed it. We overhyped what are world champion individuals BUT definitely NOT Olympics class....yet. And the Wells brothers were overrated. Expect the standard govt funding to be redirected to other sports, the criteria is rightfully tough as much as the qualifications process. The winter athletes simply need to get better. I will say I was disappointed at the NZ result but seriously, we are a Summer country, we hate winter and make do with it with only one all encompassing sport - Rugby. I thought the results were really what was expected. The media really did overhype their chances. Its an imporvement on four years ago so we shouldnt be too disappointed. Alexjc
Well tiny team of three athletes at the Paralympics have all but faded from view. Annoying really as they were defending medals. I guess that the out of the way place was a factor. And the ludicrously small team. People are moaning about Russia taking 70% of the medals...gosh, I wonder why. Olympic Fan Darcy
Corey Peters won silver. That's pretty good for team New Zealand!
Alexjc
Right at the last minute...something to smile about...and keeping up with the NZ tradition of winning medals sitting down.
micheal_warren
At least it wasn't going backwards. Great effort to win the silver!.
