SkiFreak
They made it! The Guardian: Cool Runnings II: Jamaican bobsleigh team qualifies for Winter Olympics The only thing that may keep the Jamaicans from appearing is a lack of funding, but there is a link at the bottom of the article for donations. Good luck Rasta Rocket!

BTHarner
Were they a novelty act in 1994 when one of their sleds actually placed higher than one of the Americans?
StefanMUC
They're really nothing but a novelty act. They should get real. But the novelty acts are an essential part of the Olympics. Eddie Edwards or Eric Moussambani provided great stories and a bit of light-hearted emotions among the constant striving for gold... Oh, and speaking of novelty acts... http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/winter-olympics/25802907

intoronto
They're really nothing but a novelty act. They should get real. Well they beat the US among others in 94. With the appropriate training anything is possible.
Fox334
They used to have a bunch of start records in the late 90s / early 2000s. Then Lascelles Brown moved to Canada and that was the end of that. Unless they get a lot of funding to allow Jamaican athletes to train abroad pretty much full time they will never be competitive - other countries are way better at developing starters than they used to be. baron-pierreIV
But bobsleigh has NO relevance whatsoever to the Jamaican landscape or experience. I mean, it's cute for the first 2 times; then after that, they should get real and concentrate on their sprinters...as they are doing.
ofan
Jamaica had a bobsled team for every Olympics in the 90's and in 2002. So why is this such a big deal? Does it have to do with the fact that we're now in the twitter age?

Gangwon
They need to raise some money. Will be interesting to see how they go. Why don't they just do it like the first time? Derice can kiss girls, Yul Brenner can arm wrestle, and Sanka can sing on the street.

Gangwon
"The popularity of the movie is important (in getting $120,000 in donations), but I think most importantly people relate to Jamaica bobsled and what it means. ... They related to their own lives. They asked themselves, 'What can be my Jamaica bobsled moment?'" No, not really. It's because of the movie. http://olympictalk.nbcsports.com/2014/01/21/jamaica-bobsled-crowd-funding-sochi-olympics/
AlexDS69
Many countries compete in Olympic sports that have little to no personal relevance to the lives of their people. It doesn't mean that the athletes should stop, especially if they have a passion for it and are doing it because they want to do it and not because their parents or their government shoved them into it.
