eternalcobi
OH PLEASE! You never know what happened to the Montreal 1976 Olympics, it became Quebec's financial nightmare that's still strugglin' today! Winter may fare better, but summer? You have pre-zombified tax-paying people!
zekekelso
Interesting Catch 22 with bidding. To convince a city to host, you want to sell the fact that it will increase worldwide visibility. But to get the IOC to pick the city, you have to convince the IOC voters that it's already a top visibility city.
Kenadian
But Toronto is not Montreal. Besides, I really don't think Toronto will land the 2024 Games. That year just has 'Europe' written all over it. The Olympics never go more than 12 years without a stop in Europe. That will change in the future as countries, cities and athletes in Asia, South America and Africa develop into more modern places with the ability to host. But for now, the cycle points to Europe. And a winter Olympics in Toronto is not feasible. There are no suitable mountains anywhere near the city. All the best ski resorts in Canada are thousands of kilometers away in British Columbia and Alberta. Quebec has the biggest resorts in the East and their mountains still fall short of Olympic standards.
baron-pierreIV
A Toronto bid is pretty much in the same mold as the Madrid syndrome. Too soon after Vancouver, IMHO.
Lord David
They say Toronto not bidding on 2020 was due to fiscal concerns. It was more on too soon after Vancouver and more importantly the need to build major venues like the Olympic sized stadium just 5 years post Pan Ams. It would have been a needless rush or modification of the 2015 Pan Am Games plan. Then of course we'd also have that awkward "come back in 5 years time for the 2020 Olympics" said throughout the 2015 Games and during the Closing Ceremony too.
