This is something I put together for Wellington

t0tz.png

It symbolises many aspects of Wellington.

Firstly, the predominate colours, yellow and black are the (un/official?) colours of Wellington annd Wellington Sport.

Wellington Phoenix (Football Club)

Wellington Hurricanes (Rugby Union)

Wellington Lions (Rygby Union)

Wellington Go Bus

Secondly you have the rings and centre circle. This is The Beehive, the executive wing of the New Zealand Parliament buildings and an icon of Wellington, viewed from above.

This aspect can also be viewed as symbolising Wellington's position in the centre of New Zealand.

The cut out in the bottom left symbolises a silver fern, a popular symbol of NZ and NZ sports.

Finally there in the font of the titling. It represents the Wellington sign, located near the Airport.

Originally intended to be a Wellywood sign, celebrating Wellington's famous movie scene.

The idea was met with opposition so ideas for the sign where put up to public vote. The Wellington being blown away design won and that is what is there today. It commemorates Wellington's portrayal as an immensely windy city.

This is the logo in other colours.

Despite the fact that this thread looks dead I've made this logo for Canberra quickly.

It's pretty self explanatory.

NZL.

Don't get me wrong - it's a far far better Canberra logo than mine. But the Union Jack from the Parliament House flagpole? I wouldn't have thought that would fly in Oz (or NZ for that matter). That would rile the republicans.

I made it similar to the old British commonwealth and earlier commonwealth games logo styles revolving around red and blue and the union jack, such as Christchurch 1974 or Edmonton 1978. I do understand what you're talking about though. I might experiment with some new options tomorrow. :)

And about the thread being dead it just looked like it had hit a wall but hopefully it picks back up again.

This is my finished Canberra Logo.

It incorporates many aspects of Canberra, the flag mast on Parliament Building, the Australian sporting colours of gold and green and the national animal of Australia, the Kangaroo. It also contains the commonwealth star.

I wanted to have an Aussie city. I also had Adelaide in mind, but Canberra has the landmark of parliament & a good reason to go for the games in real life, not in 2022 though (to change its image of a stuffy politics city). So Canberra it is. The comp is still open for more people/logos :)

The trouble you have is timing. Comps here are better spread out otherwise you get overload. Having it right after the main logo comp was a huge mistake. Also most people are now back at work or study so don't have the time or loose interest as it is another logo comp straight after one. Patience is indeed a virtue.

Yeah, I guess you're right. There's a reason why we only have a small number of comps each year, & that's it. Should've waited till Easter maybe. Should I close entries/start voting tomorrow & Saturday, & try & get this done before Sochi, or keep it open through the games, as planned before?

Don't want to meddle - just my two cents worth. How many days do you think you'll need for voting? Maybe try to give some warning that submissions will close at the end of the weekend, get voting going early next week with an eye to having it climax/wrap-up the day before the Sochi OC. Should be a bit of activity on the board over the next week in the lead-up, so should get some good voting attention and participation.

Well, I was planning to start a thread for Eurovision-style voting, where members would post their 1-12 points to determine a winner. I'll have to count the total number of logos before creating the exact system. BTW Rols, how did you make the picture of all the logos that you posted at the start of the first round of the Toronto/Bangkok comps? Thanks :)

Just copy and pasted them to create a new file in Photoshop.

Right then, I've counted 16 official entries, so the system will see you pick your top 6 entries & award them points, 12 points for favourite, 10 points for 2nd favourite, 8 points for 3rd, 6 points for 4th, 4 points for 5th, 2 points for 6th favourite, & no points for any logos below your 6th favourite. @Rols, I don't have photoshop :o. I can't make a post with 16 pictures, it'd take forever to load  If I/we can sort that problem out, voting could begin tomorrow, closing Friday morning with results just before the Sochi OC.

Do you want me to do up a pic with all the contenders on? How do you want me to label them? A-P? 1-16?

** Okay, I've done one, using the same style I used in this year's Olympic logo comp. If you clear some space in your PM box I can send you a link to it - won't be till tomorrow, though - about to head out for the rest of the day/tonight.
