Marussia comeback blocked by Force India no vote

Marussia's chances of a Formula 1 return this season have been dealt a severe blow after Force India rejected their request to use last year's car.

The team hope to race again under a new name after ceasing trading in October and missing 2014's last three races.

But, with the new season starting in Australia next month, they do not have time to build a new car.

The request to use their old car required unanimous agreement from rival teams but Force India voted against.

Force India declined to provide reasons for rejecting the request, while Marussia were unavailable for comment.

Marussia needed unanimous agreement from the other teams as their request amounted to a rule change - and the cut-off point for those was the end of June last year.

Although sources say Force India were the only team to veto the plan in the meeting, a number of other teams were also against it.

FIA approves Manor's Formula 1 return on new 2015 entry list

The Manor team has moved another step closer to its Formula 1 return with the FIA approving its entry to the 2015 championship on Friday.

On an updated list for the 2015 F1 world championship, motor racing's governing body confirmed that the Manor Marussia F1 team's place on the grid was secure.

The team had originally been subject to confirmation in the last list, which was published before Christmas.

The move to confirm Manor's entry came after weeks of negotiation between the FIA and Manor chiefs to ensure that everything was in place with its finances and infrastructure for it to race in 2015.

Although the team has no official links to its former Marussia owners, it has had to retain use the name for its chassis to qualify for the commercial rights income that it earned last year.

Jules Bianchi's ninth place finish in Monaco was enough to place Marussia ninth overall in the constructors' championship - securing it around £30 million in prize revenue for this year.

The identity of the team's second driver, who will race alongside Will Stevens, has not yet been confirmed.

The team is working on preparing an updated version of its 2014 car that complies with the '15 regulations so it can start the season.

The plan is for a bespoke 2015 challenger to be ready later in the year.

Manor's fellow 2010 F1 arrival Caterham remains absent from the list, officially confirming its departure from the championship.

The team went into administration at the same time as Marussia/Manor last year, but was revived for a one-off appearance at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix as it sought new ownership.

Its assets are now being auctioned.

Red Bull Racing unveils revised 2015 Formula 1 livery

1425289520.jpg

Red Bull has revealed its revised colour scheme for 2015, having spent the winter using a camouflage livery on its Formula 1 car.

The Milton-Keynes based outfit caused a stir when it elected to run with a black-and-white car through the three pre-season winter tests.

And although it ruled out keeping the design for the season, the team has tweaked its normal livery slightly ahead of the campaign.

There is an increased purple presence, for title sponsor Infiniti, and larger Red Bull branding along the side of the nose.

Fernando Alonso: McLaren driver to miss Australian Grand Prix

McLaren driver Fernando Alonso will miss the season-opening Australian Grand Prix on 15 March on medical advice.

Doctors say Alonso, 33, is not injured following his crash in testing on 22 February , but advised him not to race in Melbourne because of the risk of suffering a second concussion.

Sustaining another concussion injury while a patient is still suffering from the first can have serious consequences, which can extend to prolonged coma or even death.

Alonso will be replaced for the first grand prix of the season by McLaren reserve driver Kevin Magnussen.

A McLaren statement said a series of medical tests and scans found Alonso had "no medical issue" and there was "no evidence whatsoever of any injury".

Doctors, McLaren said, described the Spaniard as "entirely healthy from neurological and cardiac perspectives alike".

But it added that the doctors had recommended that Alonso should "for the time being seek to limit as far as is possible any environmental risk factors that could potentially result in his sustaining another concussion so soon after his previous one, so as to minimise the chances of second impact syndrome, as is normal medical procedure when treating athletes after concussions".

Second impact syndrome is where a patient suffers a second concussion before the first is entirely healed, and it can result in raised intra-cranial pressure, prolonged coma and can be fatal.

Doctors say recovery from concussion cannot be predicted and that it varies from patient to patient.

McLaren said Alonso's doctors were "supportive" of his ambitions to return to the cockpit in time for the second race of the season in Malaysia on 27-29 March
