Pastor Maldonado has been penalised three times for his collision with Esteban Gutierrez during the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Maldonado had just left the pits when he hit the Sauber driver, flipping Gutierrez over and forcing him out of the race.

The stewards gave Maldonado a ten second stop-go penalty during the race and two further penalties.

Maldonado will also take a five-place grid penalty for the next race in China. And he has had three penalty points added to his licence.

The stewards also handed two more penalty points to Jules Bianchi for his contact with Adrian Sutil during the race, giving him a total of four for the season so far.

NASCAR's Gene Haas granted Formula 1 entry for 2015 season

Gene Haas has secured a Formula 1 team entry for the 2015 season.

The American NASCAR team owner confirmed on Friday that he had been informed by the FIA his application to join the F1 grid had been successful.

It comes after a lengthy evaluation process to ensure that Haas had the financial means and necessary infrastructure to commit to the sport.

In a statement, Haas welcomed the FIA decision, although knew that the granting of the entry marked only the start of a huge effort to get on to the grid.

"Obviously, we're extremely pleased to have been granted a Formula 1 licence by the FIA," he said.

"It's an exciting time for me, Haas Automation and anyone who wanted to see an American team return to Formula 1.

"Now, the really hard work begins. It's a challenge we embrace as we work to put cars on the grid.

"I want to thank the FIA for this opportunity and the diligence everyone put forth to see our licence application come to fruition."

Haas is hoping to announce further details about his F1 operation next week.

The success of the Haas entry comes just a few years after the efforts of another American team, USF1, failed to come off.

F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone suggested in last weekend's Bahrain Grand Prix that Haas may not be the only team that gets an entry for 2015, although he declined to reveal any more details.

Ferrari: Stefano Domenicali quits as boss of F1 team

Stefano Domenicali has resigned as the team principal of Ferrari with immediate effect.

The Italian team have struggled at the start of the current season and have failed to register a podium finish in the opening three races.

Domenicali had been in charge since taking over from Jean Todt in 2008 but the 48-year-old will now be replaced by Marco Mattiacci.

The next F1 race is the Chinese Grand Prix on 20 April.

Ferrari has named Marco Mattiacci as its new team principal after Stefano Domenicali resigned from the role.

Domenicali has stepped down following a poor start to the new season having been team principal since 2008. In that time, Ferrari has won just once constructors' championship and missed out on the drivers' title at the final race on two occasions.

Mattiacci replaces Domenicali having previously been the CEO of Ferrari North America, becoming team principal with immediate effect. Having thanked Domenicali for his work, Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo said Mattiacci was keen to take control.

“I want to wish good luck to Marco Mattiacci, a manager who knows the value of the company and he enthusiastically accepted this challenge,” Montezemolo said

Red Bull lose Ricciardo appeal

(Reuters) - Formula One team Red Bull's appeal against Daniel Ricciardo's disqualification from the Australian Grand Prix has been rejected by the International Court of Appeal, the International Automobile Federation (FIA) said on Tuesday.

"The Court, after having heard the parties and examined their submissions, decided to uphold the Decision No56 of the Stewards by which they decided to exclude Infiniti Red Bull Racing's car No3 from the results of the 2014 Australian Grand Prix," The FIA said in a statement.

Australian Ricciardo finished second in his home race last month, his debut for the world champions, but was disqualified hours later when stewards ruled his car had breached new fuel flow regulations.

No further sanction against Red Bull was announced.

Flag error shortens Grand Prix in Shanghai

The Chinese Grand Prix was cut short because of an error with the chequered flag, which was waved a lap early.

1221335-25479745-640-360.jpgReuters

Lewis Hamilton was shown the chequered flag at the end of lap 55 - one lap before it was supposed to have been displayed.

F1's regulations state that if the chequered flag is shown early, then the race will be deemed to have finished the lap before.

Article 43.2 of F1's sporting regulations states: "Should for any reason the end-of-race signal be given before the leading car completes the scheduled number of laps, or the prescribed time has been completed, the race will be deemed to have finished when the leading car last crossed the line before the signal was given."

That means that the Chinese GP was declared to have finished on lap 54 of the 56 that actually ran.

Speaking about the chequered flag incident, Hamilton said: "That was very strange. I was thinking 'am I seeing things?'

"I looked up, I was coming across the line expecting to do another lap and all of a sudden I looked for a split second and I saw the flag.

"I lifted for a second and I saw there was no one on the wall, so then I just kept going.

"I did lose a second or so. I asked the team, they said no, so I just kept going.

"Very, very strange. It was good to do another lap."

The changed distance did not alter any of the points-scoring positions but it did result in Caterham's Kamui Kobayashi being relegated to 18th, having pulled off a late move on Jules Bianchi's Marussia for 17th.

Hamilton, Alonso and Riccardo, the class drivers today; all showed up their team mates and got great results for their teams today.

Amazing Rosberg is still WDC leader after these four races really!

To the prat with the chequered flag: YOU HAD ONE JOB. Incredibly lucky the only thing that cock-up affected was the fight for 17th.

I agree. Riccardo is showing that Vettel isn't so good.

Hamilton was unlucky for having abandoned the first race. If he doesn't overcome Masssa's bad luck, he should take the title this year.

Epic....if he's doing this on purpose it's not good for the nerves, but he always seems to have something in reserve for Q3.

Special mention to Big John getting that Lotus to P5 and really showing up Crashtor.
