Rmours have it that the three are Glasgow, Amsterdam and Kazan - with the first two, Western, cities as favourites. Glasgow coming off the back of this years Commonwealth Games would have infrastructure and expertise; Amsterdam would be a popular choice - both hit the sport of 'big, but not big enough for the Olympics themselves' and 'competent'

If them 3 end up being the only 3 Candidates Bidding, I would support Glasgow 2019. Reasons are that Amsterdam have a lack of Venues, and the one Venue they do have (Amsterdam Arena), is in need of a Renovation. Kazan has the facilities from the Universiade, but Russia has hosted so much, so it's time for Glasgow, as a legacy of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, and maybe a boost to a possible Bid for a Summer Youth Olympic Games, possibly the 2022 Summer Youth Olympic Games.

UK has had its fair deal of hostings over the past decade too. I'd prefer Amsterdam - not at all my fave city in the world, but I'm sure the Dutch would pull this off well without Russian (Azeri) bombastic style. And it's probably true the Olympics have outgrown cities like Amsterdam, so this could be a good consolation prize.

With all due respect, the European Games are basically like a first step towards a future Olympic Bid for smaller Cities, I could be wrong. For example, Amsterdam, Lyon, Seville, Leipzig, Kazan, Brussels, Cardiff, Dublin, Lisbon, Kiev, Warsaw. Again, with all due respect that is. For example, weather Baku had no chance for the 2020 Summer Olympics, if they Bid for future Summer Olympics, they would have hosting experience, with European Games 2015, Eurovision song contest, Fifa Under 17 Women's World Cup etc.

I support Amsterdam too. If we drop Russia because "the country has hosted to much", equally the UK in the last years -London Olympics, Commonwealth Games, Athletics Events...-, if we make a bar, well, applying to ALL contenders. Netherlands is a great country with long tradition of sports and multicultural society. The SOG is out at this stage, but this event can be perfect for the Dutch people.

I would say a european games, if they succeed and take off a bit (and IOC is heavily behind them, so they might well) could serve several functions. for some cities it would line up both infrastructure and good will for a future OG bid, for other smaller cities, or cities in smaller countries, it would be a singular and important event in it's own right, on a scale they could cope with. Dublin will never cope with an OG, probably Lisbon either - but both would manage an EG - whereas amsterdam, St petersburg etc could see it as opening gambit for OG bid.

That is a very good detailed point. For cities lets say St Petersburg, Budapest, Baku, Istanbul, Madrid etc, it could line up a future Summer Olympics Bid. But for cities like Vienna, Kazan, Brussels, Tel-Aviv, Cardiff and Dublin, they are cities that with all due respect, won't host an Olympic Games anytime soon, so it's just a 2nd tier hosting rights to get their name on the big stage, again with all due respect.

Uhm, Vienna or Brussels don't need a European Games to "get their name on the big stage".

I'm talking in terms of Sport, not Politics. Brussels and Vienna couldn't host a modern day Summer Olympics, but could host a European Games IMO.

That's what I think is the best bit of these Euro games & I hope they take off, they're made for the likes of Brussels, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Dublin, Budapest etc that probably couldn't host a Summer Olympics, & so currently haven't got a major hosting opportunity.

If the 3 Bidders are Glasgow, Amsterdam and Kazan, then these are probably going to be the Venues for each IMO:

Glasgow:

Hampden Park (46,000 Seats) (Opening and Closing Ceremonies Venue, Athletics). Temporary Athletics Track.

Tollcross Aquatics Centre (5,000 Seats) (Swimming, Diving, Synchro and Water Polo).

Celtic Park (60,000 Seats) (Beach Football). Temporary Artificial Beach inside.

Ibrox (60,000 Seats) (Beach Football). Temorary Artificial Beach inside.

The Hydro (13,000 Seats) (Basketball, Gymnastics, Karate, Table Tennis, Taekwondo and Volleyball).

SECC (12,500 Seats) (Badminton, Boxing, Fencing, Judo and Wrestling).

Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome (2,000 Seats) (Track Cycling).

Temporary BMX and Mountain Bike Course.

Road Race (Streets of Glasgow)

Triathlon.

Spanner in the works/ political can of worms: It may be true to say the UK has hosted a lot recently, but Glasgow might not be a part of the UK by then...

Russia has hosted alot recently and in the future aswell though (2008 UEFA Champions League Final, Luzhniki Stadium, Moscow; 2013 Summer Universiade, Kazan; 2013 IAAF World Athletics Championships, Luzhniki Stadium, Moscow; 2014 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, Sochi; 2015 FINA World Aquatics Championships, Kazan; 2017 Fifa Confederations Cup, Russia; 2018 Fifa World Cup, Russia and 2019 Winter Universiade, Krasnoyarsk).

The thing is with the European Games is that many Middle Ranked Countries have Modern, State of the Art Stadiums to Host the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, but many can't fit or don't have an Athletics Track. Whereas Major World/European Cities like here in London or in Paris, Rome, Madrid, Barcelona, Berlin, Munich, Stockholm, Oslo, Moscow, St Petersburg, Sochi, Athens and Istanbul etc have or could build a Stadium with an Athletics Track, Middle Ranked European Cities like Lisbon, Baku, Glasgow, Cardiff, Dublin, Hamburg, Vienna, Bern, Budapest, Bucharest, Sofia, Tel-Aviv and Zagreb etc could Build (Well Baku is Building and Glasgow can transform Hampden Park when they want) a Stadium with an Athletics Track, it would defeat the whole object of what the European Olympic Committee wanted the European Games to be. They want Middle Ranked Countries using mostly existing facilities. For example:

Lisbon: Estadio da Luz.

Cardiff: Millennium Stadium (With Renovations).

Dublin: Aviva Stadium.

Hamburg: Imtech Arena.

Vienna: Ernst Happel Stadium (With Renovations).

Bucharest: National Stadium.

Although, cities like Bern, Budapest, Sofia, Tel-Aviv and Zagreb would still need to build IMO.

The 2019 European Games should be Hosted in Western Europe, seeing as though Eastern Europe will be Hosting the 2015 European Games.

Like I said before, Turkey is too close to Azerbaiyan, the current antirussian sentment through Europe won't help them at all, not mentioning they're also on Eastern Europe. Then again , Putin Russia also has a lot of influence on those organizations which is why they secured Sochi and the 2018 WC even when there were other better options.

I've always wanted to see a multisport event happening in Netherlands, even though they seem to be usually very shy from those and rarely if ever hosts them. If Amsterdam manages to host they will be more minimalistic than Baku for sure, but that would help proving that small countries can still host these events on an era they seem to be relegated to either countries with dubious democratic records or rich ones.

Glasgow could be a great choice too, they proved this year to be a capable host. But I dunno if it would be too soon after the Commonwealth Games.

The European Olympic Committees [EOC] today announced that the host city of the 2019 European Games will be proposed for the approval of the EOC membership at an Extraordinary General Assembly in May 2015, with talks now ongoing with six cities who have expressed an interest in hosting the second edition.

The announcement comes following today’s meetings of the EOC Executive Committee and the 2019 European Games Working Group, ahead of the start of the 43rd EOC General Assembly in Baku – host city of the inaugural European Games in 2015. The current shortlist of six will be narrowed down to a single proposed host city by the EOC Executive Committee following negotiations during Q1 2015.
