Bonne Année! And Happy New Year, GamesBidders!

A big thanks to Ontario’s own Justin Bieber for coming out of retirement to open our seasonal and festive Red Carpet introduction to the Shortlist voting round of the 7th Annual GamesBids Logo Comp!

We are gathered now at Niagara Falls
to consider our finalist list of 16 logos, compare them head-to-head, and winnow the list down for logo shortlist.

Thanks to all the members who have entered designs for the Toronto 2026 Winter Olympic Games – I think we have our biggest finalist fields ever for this, and there’s some really high quality submissions in there.

Our task now thus to select the final five to step up to the podium and onto the elimination rounds to choose our ultimate Gold, Silver and bronze winners.

I ask everyone to select the logos they feel best represents the Big T and introduces it to the world as it prepares to celebrate its moment in the Winter spotlight. You may wish to consider such factors as originality, boldness, attractiveness, execution, concept, or whatever other points you feel are important, in your decisions.

Voting rules are:

  • Post your nominations for the shortlist of UP TO FIVE (5) member's logos from the selections above.
  • You may vote for less than five, but if you post more than five selections your post will not be counted.
  • You MAY NOT vote for your own logo. And votes for a known relative’s logo will not be counted (it would only cause bad blood in the voting).
  • All selections nominated will be weighted equally - you need not place your preferences in order.
  • You MAY post your reasons for your decisions, but try to be respectful please.
  • Voting will last approximately 48 hours. The poll will close after 5pm Friday January 3 2014, Sydney time (6am January 3 GMT). After this time, the votes will be collated, and the top five logos in terms of votes will proceed to the first elimination poll round.
  • In the event of a tie for fifth (or higher) place giving us more than five logos, all tied logos will also move on to the elimination rounds.
  • Voting is limited to members of GamesBids as of December 31, 2013 with a bona fide posting history. The judge's (my) decision on what constitutes bona fide, and the validity of votes, is final. I'll also make up any other rulings on the fly if necessary.
  • I will vote in this round.

Good luck to all our entrants.

And remember, this is all meant to be fun. Play fair! No cat fights on the carpet please.

WOOPS: TECHNICAL SCREW-UP MALFUNCTION!!!!!!

Disregard Logo G. I won't count any votes for it. I doubled up on USAandItalia/Anthony in the final list. Thanks for pointing that out Anthony! I had the old name on my checklist entered with your original, and didn't twig I guess because your following logos seemed a different style.

I see you voted fo G before I realised my f**k-up. You can have an extra vote to make up from it (just post your selection here) if you want. But you're the only one who gets that. I won't count any other G votes.

I'll have ONE vote - J. It's really a weak field and no NEW, INGENIOUS ways to present the tired old maple leaf theme. Nothing really grabs me. And I don't understand the "TO26"? Why the shorthand? I find that very presumptuous for the viewer to be expected to immediately know that that's Toronto 2026?? Never presume.

Hopefully, the Bangkok line-up will be more promising.

I think I'll vote anyway and you can take them off if you don't want to accept them.

If no-one objects, I'll count them.

:o woops, I'd like to apologise. I accidentally voted before I read the rules, so I may have voted for my own. How would I change my vote to a different logo?

Just post here your extra vote. I won't count your own vote.

I don't think its a weak field as such Baron but more lie a weak chosen city. The maple leaf and T are what most people can relate to making Toronto and Canada recognisable around the world, hence why all we got is mostly Maple leafs and T's, apart from Puppy's creation, which i may add that i voted for :P

I think the CN tower is synonymous with the city of Toronto which is why I voted for the design that featured it.

I have objection against NZL and any member with less than 6 months/200 posts in the board.

Let's not start the bad competition again.

Sorry NZL, just be a known member in the board in 2014, and come back next year for voting.

P is an abstract representation of a mountain based on the 'Crystal' at the Royal Ontario Museum.

romcrystal01.jpg

It also alludes to a mountain range - a higher and lesser peak - celebrating not only reaching the peak but also the striving to meet one's goals. The colours pay tribute to the multi-national city that Toronto is. A kaleidoscope of ethnicities, lifestyles and beliefs.

Ohhh that makes sense now! Awesome idea :)

Personally, I think he demonstrated his good faith (and he also accepted graciously in a pm to me if his votes weren't counted). But fair enough Danny.

I think the 200 posts or six months is a bit too limiting. It's usually easy enough to pick the ring ins from the fair dinkum members.

Although i'm not the runner of the competition and Rols is but I think that is harsh and it should be up to him. Another member voted and has less than 200 posts yet has been a member for over 5 years. I understand hesitance to a member who joined today however.

I completely understand what you are saying. I am happy for my votes to not be counted. I will return next year to vote and hopefully present a logo if inspiration strikes.

NZL.

By the way my logo is Q. :)

C E J M & N

Logo E:

By far and away the best of the bunch this year. Already said in the submissions thread that I'm so impressed it includes maple leaves, snow, ski-tracks, a cauldron, fireworks..etc. And it still looks cohesive as a whole logo and really festive. Bloody love it!

------

Logo C:

Slick design, a big T, nice gradient and some snowflakes. What's not to like? Sums everything up in a neat logo.

Logo J:

Brave not to go for something obvious like a maple leaf, and the homage to Athens' logo makes me warm to this design a lot. Nicely balaced too.

Logo N:

Probably the best executed logo of all the Toronoto submissions. A nice concept and it has a beautiful glass-like quality to it. Maybe a bit too corporate, which is why it's not quite in the same class as the festive Logo E for me, but can see it getting lots of votes. No question it should be on the shortlist.

Logo M:

I'm still a little unsure on this one but I do think it's worth a place on the final shortlist nonetheless. Beautiful design, wintery and Canadian and again the layered translucence really adds to it. Is it strong enough as a logo when it's on anything other than a white background - I'm not sure. But it gets my 5th nomination.
