2023 Pan American Games

Recommended Posts

A Brazilian bid seems to be unlikely due to the economic situation in Brazil and... after all problems they had to carry on the Olympics... Are they willing to spend lots of money again in a new major sport event?

The race, up to here, is South American again... no Central neither North America to bid... Would Argentina goverment  be willing to support again a major sport event after 2018 YOG? (Similiar situation to Brazil) Then, the race is left between Colombia and Chile... Chilean new Sport Minister, Pablo Squella, has declared that bringing the 2023 Panamerican Games to Chile is "a priority" in his administration...

It is said that during thiss week the Chilean Goverment has to pronounce about the Santiago's bid for 2023 Pan Am Games.

If Santiago goes for the bid, it would be the only city to be an official candidate to host those Games, so far....

Buenos Aires decides to bid to the Pan-Americans 2023 after doubts of Santiago.

After the knowledge of the obstacles of the Ministry of Finance to the postulation of Santiago to the organization of the Pan American Games of 2023, Buenos Aires took note and in an express management, the Argentine Olympic Committee will present in the next hours his candidacy.

Macri smells blood from Santiago and takes the shot huh, he wants to project a "winner" image in parlamentary election year. Could backfire though...

Well, personally i'm happy... every day the YOG seem more and more like a cheap scam to me, so I'd like a "true" sporting event in the city.

Originally, the Chilean government decided to cancel the Santiago 2023 bid given the proposal made by the local Olympic committee and the Ministry of Sparts was badly rated. That encouraged Buenos Aires to bid and be, until today, the only official proposal.

However, the Chilean Congress requested President Michelle Bachelet to support the bid anyways, and according to press reports, this was accepted and the bid will be announced today. http://www.t13.cl/noticia/deportes13/polideportivo/chile-presentara-su-candidatura-a-los-juegos-panamericanos-2023

So, will it be Buenos Aires vs Santiago after all?

Yeah... The race will be between Buenos Aires and Santiago for 2023 Pan Am.

So, we will have 2 subsequent South American Pan Am Games... 2019, 2023...

But that was after two consecutive games in North America (Guadalajara, Toronto), so it sort of balances out.

I've discovered another reason to really love the Pan Am Games......you don't need to worry about what the Russians are doing.

And I can see the 2027 ones also being in the south, I mean... Mexico and Canada won't bid for a time, USA is not interested and all the other countries are incapable to host. Maybe Brazil or Colombia will show interest.

Well, I don't think most people would consider Mexico North America exactly, even though geographically it is. Also, there are major cultural differences among both countries. Not a lot of differences between most South American countries.

The "people" that don't consider Mexico part of North America are mainly "Americans" (& perhaps many Canadians, too). Not only is Mexico geographically part of North America, but so is Central America & the Caribbean.

I always thought the argument, bcuz the cultures are "different", is a weak one. Because under that logic, then places like India & the Middle East for example, aren't really part of Asia because their cultures are totally different from East Asia (i.e. Japan, China & the Koreas).

That's why the term "Latin America" came about, to distinguish the cultural differences. But many people, particular in the U.S. incorrectly think that means "South America", when the two aren't suppose to be interchangeable at all. Continents aren't divided by "culture". On the contrary, they're riddled with many different cultures, & North America isn't (& shouldn't be) an exception in that regard.

2027 would be 16 years since 2011 (same distance between 1999 and 2015). Maybe the USA might be interested if they decide that they will not bid for 2028?

Anyways PASO confirmed the two bidders, and traditionally the host will be elected in the host city of the next games (Lima), like with the past three editions.

I'm surprised he didn't mention any winter sports events the city should try to host considering that he wants Winnipeg to embrace itself as a cold winter city.

I don't think anyone needs to be reminded that it's effing cold in Manitoba.

A view from the bid city: Santiago

If Santiago gets the Games, it will be the second time in a row that the country's capital city hosts the Games (after Lima)

That is how Santiago looks like
