That Queenstown logo looks a bit detailed for a 'bit of fun', with its full manual. Are you sure we haven't uncovered a full bid here? :P

PS: nice logo though. Kiwis seem very good at this sort of thing, if only they'd been able to make a logo for RWC 2011.

Hmmm indeed. I think using clipart snowflakes is one thing, and I really don't want to start arguments here, but I don't think this logo can be counted can it? It's someone else's work.

I remember that Barrack was asked to change his logo in 2009 for the same reasons (I think he used Dubai Airlines branding originally) so I'm not picking on Scotguy here.

I agree too. Although this design concept is very similar to London 2012's - line projections and shards.

I really hate to come in on this, but I think it's fine to a certain level to use internet art after all he did change it up a bit, yet the bottom line is that it's comprised of someones work. I did use snowflake clip art, but it took me hours to finish my logo and align all the snowflakes to make the leaf. Sir Rols how do you stand on this?

I try to strike a balance between keeping these comps fun and light without having to be heavy-handed, but also trying to make it fair for the entrants (who I always admire their bravery in putting their designs out in front of what's a tough critics' circle here).

And members have proved pretty eagle-eyed - and knowledgeable - when it comes to Olympic logos. They're quick to spot copying and to post about it. Rob mentioned Barrack, and a few years ago there was quite a bitter flame war between Krow and Davey about one of his submissions.

At the end of the day, I think when people go to vote on the short lists and the winners, I'm pretty sure originality comes into people's decisions and choices. I'm not going to disallow Scotguy's... yet. But I may if it really provokes an uproar. But by the same token I'd encourage him to maybe, as a gesture of goodwill, to re-look at and tweak his logo or maybe even try again from scratch, otherwise it could cost dearly when it comes to voting.

Ok, I hear the rumblings here and i do not want to ruin this thread like so many others have done in other threads with arguments, so I withdraw that Toronto logo, please do not submit with the others please Rols.

Done.

Thanks mate, that's gracious of you! I hope you submit another one (and Bangkok's still a goer).

It looks very similar.

BTW, Rols, a flame war involving krow? That must've been entertaining, don't remember that. Edit:Can't even imagine davey getting heated :P

eh it was kind of dumb actually.

however, i'm nothing if not honest and these days my short-list critiques are a highly anticipated highlight of each competition, and my recommendations hotly coveted (in my mind at least).

The concept behind my logo.

T - T for Toronto, is the obvious image here, the host city of the games.

The T's are in the olympic colours.

The shape of the T's also represent the crouching pose of a ski jumper

The colours are vivid and i have stayed away from the blue, cold and winter colours. Toronto is a vibrant and multicultural city and i wanted the logo to represent this.

A place to stand! A place to grow! Toronto goes retro-retro!

In 2026, Canada celebrates the 50th anniversary of its first olympic games in home soil in the same year that Toronto hosts the XXV Olympic Winter Games. Our proposal celebrates Canada's Olympic memory and pays a homage to classic elements of Canadian national and local design!

*

The bold lines of the emblem and logotype in bright red with use of negative space are based in the looks of Montreal 1976 - Canada's first Games of the Olympiad - and Calgary 1988 - first Canadian Olympic Winter Games

*

The iconic Toronto City Hall surrounds the gathering place of the athletes of the world. The space between the buildings also shapes like a capital T letter above the olympic rings

*

The three snowflakes above Toronto are stylised trillium flowers. The white trillium is the official flower of Ontario and a fit symbol for the first olympic games held in that Canadian Province. Each trillium snowflake symbolizes a winter games held in Canada: Calgary '88, Vancouver 2010 and Toronto 2026

*

The lettering Toronto '26 is modern yet retro, featuring the Maple Leaf as an apostrophe
