It's the second year in a row that bob/skeleton has skipped them: http://www.piquenewsmagazine.com/whistler/no-world-cups-coming-to-whistler-sliding-centre-this-winter/Content?oid=2553754

runningrings
Alternative the IOC can should shut up and relax and perhaps start to treat sliding sports like the SOG treats sailing --- if a suitable venue is not within the host region, then make an exception and let it be held elsewhere. Hypothetically , if Denver lands 2026, it would be ridiculous to build something from scratch-- just put all the sliding events in Utah and be done with it.
LatinXTC
Sort of. The Hunderfossen track hosts luge events occasionally, but I don't think it has hosted a World Cup bobsled/skeleton event in at least 15 years. La Plagne did not host any events from 2002-2012. It was reopened to competition in 2012 after the Cesana track closed so that the FIBT would have another World Cup venue in Europe. The Lake Placid luge and bobsled runs were too dangerous to use for competition by the late-90s. I'm not sure there would still be a competitive track in Lake Placid if Ted Turner hadn't paid for a new track to be built for the 2000 Winter Goodwill Games. The Nagano track has hosted only a few events since 1998, though perhaps they will be able to host more events once the Korea track is built. In short, of the 11 Olympic tracks since 1976, 1 has been destroyed (Sarajevo), 1 has closed (Cesana), 1 has been replaced (Lake Placid), 1 is never used for competition (Nagano), and 2 have been used very sparingly for competition (La Plagne and Hunderfossen). The Sarajevo track still stands, unfortunately it suffered damage due to the wars that broke out in the region. It's being used by the locals as a place for graffiti art, and some people even hike the track. It was still being used on a regular basis before war broke out, and I'm sure it would have still been in regular use had there been no war in the area. baron-pierreIV
Just a suggestion for next time.. A polling thread "Which (x number if cities) are most likely to withdraw during the race"... The European cities are just wusses!! Afraid to spend for a winter festival. I mean it's only euros/kroners. Vladimir and his gang had the right idea: spend like there's no tomorrow, after all, you can't take it with you!!
