Shadowriver
Wawel Dragon is possibly the most recognizable legend not only in Kraków, but also in whole Poland, i bet we will see ton of references to it in the bid. Not to mention it could be used for something cool involving Olympic flame ;]
Roger87
Actually I like the third one. Anyway with that. Beijing-Krakow-Oslo will be in the shortlist. Almaty is on the edge (albeit they can make it). Lviv is DOA.

Tony E Loves Architecture
Oslo, Krakow and Beijing. Almaty won't make the shortlist, for the simple reason, the IOC won't not accept just 1 City, so Lviv and Almaty won't go through to Candidate Phase. Oslo will win, Krakow 2nd, Beijing 3rd. Then for the Non Chosen cities, Almaty 4th and Lviv 5th.

Tony E Loves Architecture
I can actually see Beijing missing out as a Candidate City. I think it will be Oslo, Krakow and Almaty now. Almaty is getting alot of praise. Beijing being kicked out now your nuts there are only three safe options for the 2022 winter games Beijing China, Almaty Kazakhstan and Oslo Norway I believe that they will be the three Candidate cities for the 2022 race with Krakow Poland and Lviv Ukraine being kicked out of the race, Almaty is an hub for winter sports now, Beijing is an international city and Oslo Norway a stable host for Europe but the future of Oslo bid is still unknown. You obviously don't listen to facts, and certainly don't listen to the majority. Oslo and Krakow will definitley make the Candidate stage. Your just obsessed with Beijing and Almaty IMO. FYI
Both of you are nuts. Cuz geopolitically, the Chinese are in. Doesn't matter the anti-China rants that some on here are spewing. The IOC knows that the Chinese are reliable & that they can deliver if the need arises. Plus, marketing the Winter Olympics to 1.5 Billion people by the time 2022 arrives ain't a bad consolation, either. And Krakow ain't getting "kicked out". With a population base of 44 million people, the Polish bid outranks Kazahkstans 17 million in potential to expand the Olympic brand. So if the IOC wants to go that route, why wouldn't they go wth the option that offers the most potential of doing that. And I really wouldn't judge anything significant on that little tidbit from ISTG's about Almaty either. I don't see how in the world they could be an "emerging front-runner" when they don't have most of the variables that get put into the equation. So they have some oil money & some of the venues (which wouldn't necessarily be up to Olympic standards anyway). But so did Doha & Baku, but in the end, that meant nothing to the IOC E.B. Almaty is no "winter sports hub" either. What in the world are you even basing this on. Kazahkstan has NO winter sports tradition at all. Therefore, the short-list is going to be Oslo, Krakow & Beijing. That's more than enough, considering the 2022 circumstances, for the IOC to make a choice from.
Gold Coast Lions
Kazakhstan is in Central Asia which will bring the Winter Olympics games to 50 Million people and also Kazakhstan is in the central Asia near by few hours to 4 billion people it is not isolated, Kazakhstan will grow the Olympics Winter Sports more then Poland will, It will bring a new training centre to 50 million people in the region, Almaty Kazakhstan will be the Rio de Janeiro Brazil 2016 of the 2022 race they hosted the Asian Winter Games in 2011 like Rio de Janeiro hosted the Pan Am Games they are both developing sporting powers too and have fast growing economies in the world Kazakhstan is hosting the 2017 Winter University Games and the 2017 World Expo they are the underdogs like Rio de Janeiro Brazil was in the 2016 race.
FYI
You'll just grasp at anything to grossly embellish Kazahkstan, won't you. If you're going to use the population of an entire continent, you're too late since we can apply that to Pyeongchang 2018. Not to mention that China directly would also take care of that with their 1.5 Billion people. Almaty is NOT comparable to Rio de Janiero whatsoever. The major differences, the continent of South America had never hosted an Olympics before, whereas Asia has hosted several already, & hosting two more before 2022. Not to mention the country of Brazil itself has 200 million people. Almaty has no sort of similar argument. You're merely grasping at straws at this point. Almaty hosting the much smaller winter Asian games doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things. Kazahkstan has only won an overall seven medals at the Winter Olympics, so calling then 'developing sporting powers' alongside Brazil as your example is nothing but a joke. The true 'underdog' here is Krakow. And if we're gonna conveniently use regional population bases, the Polish bid then has the potential to reach more than 125 million people (at least double than your 50 million) which is also better linked than your central Asian example. Gold Coast Lions
That never stop Yugoslavia who never won a single winter sporting medal when they got the 1984 winter games and they only won 1 medal at there 1984 winter games so that is pointless when you bring up the medal table. FYI
Sarajevo was only up against Sapporo (which had already hosted just twelve years prior) & a weak Gothenburg bid. And yet the IOC was still torn with recent-repeat host Sapporo 1972 & Sarajevo. Then president Tito made it his priority to get the 1984 Winter Olympics to his country & triumphed most likely cuz of the weak field for winter 1984. Every race has it's different dynamics, & 2022 is different from winter 1984. We have a very strong traditional bidder on the table & a couple of others that would make better options. If the medal tables mean nothing, then why did Sochi 2014 use that to their advantage when they were bidding as being the one of the only winter sports nation having yet to host the Winter Olympics. They do mean something, & will mean something for the 2022 Games, especially when you have senior IOC members saying that the Winter Olympics "must go back to basics". Gold Coast Lions
Exactly Central ASIA. The IOC won't go back to Asia for a 3rd time in a row PyeongChang 2018 and Tokyo 2020. Almaty and Beijing won't win. Oslo will win, if not Krakow. The IOC has allowed a continent to host 3 in a row before 1992, 1992 and 1994 they can do it again there is no rule for them to not allow 3 in a row for Asia as well and with a risk of a war being doing in Eastern Europe right now the IOC will stay away from the Ukraine and countries around the Ukraine so which will take out Poland, Norway government still don't support the bid from Norway still so the IOC might have no choice to go to Asia again. Lviv is IN Ukraine, and Kazakhstan was part of the Soviet Union? The Ukraine crisis won't affect Krakow, let alone Oslo. You just have some obsession with Asia having all the Olympics, without looking at the reality. If Oslo and Krakow pull out, the IOC will choose Beijing. Beijing is a back up JUST in case. FYI
You've already been told how ridiculous you are by saying that the troubles in Ukraine would spill over to Poland. If that's the case, every former Soviet Republic should watch out (including Kazahkstan), cuz they could just as easily be sucked into the turmoil if Putin gets more of a big up his a$s. And until the Norwegian government gives a definitive answer, then Oslo is still part of the discussions. Oslo turning in the applicant file today is a good indicator that the bid is moving forward. Otherwise, why waste anymore time & money going ahead. If they the IOC is faced with having to go to Asia yet again, it's going to be Beijing, not Almaty.
