runningrings
I just feel this bid is a waste of time. Yeah, it will probably get the marks to make it through to the Candidate Phase and China has the resources and experience, but with those 'other' Beijing Games being just five years ago and Nanjing hosting the next YOGs next summer and of course the 2018 Winter and 2020 Summer Games in Asia, is it geopolitically correct to rush back to Beijing after so short a period? A Canadian telling another country they're at risk of hosting too much, too soon- let alone the IOC's most important market for the next few decades? Pot, kettle, black.

Gold Coast Lions
North America isn't home to some 4bn people across 50 countries! Asia has only got 5 possible counties to host the Winter Olympics Games Japan, South Korea, China, Kazakhstan and Asian Russia while North America only got 2 choices Canada and USA, So Canada and the USA host more games more often because of that if they don't then there will be no Winter Olympics Games today Avery Brundage was planning to canned the winter games fully because it was always in Europe apart from 2 games in 1932 and 1960 Avery Brundge really make the winter games globally we will be seeing less games in Europe in the future and they may host only once 20-24 years apart for the Summer Games and 16 years for the Winter Games, Spain, Germany and Norway in that order will be hosting the next European winter games Almaty Kazakhstan will be getting the 2022 winter games where ever people likes it or not, It is way to early for Beijing to host an Olympics Games again China should of bid with Harbin now that will be the tight race, Almaty is the only bid which have something new and a new place and new region for the IOC to go to. I see only 3 bidding cities that will make the Short list Oslo Norway, Almaty Kazakhstan and Beijing China. Or 2 Almaty Kazakhstan and Beijing China if Oslo Norway does not get government support, Ukraine not ready and the Sweden are you kidding me the Sweden bid is an really bad joke and the IOC don't allow joined national bids. I agree with you on Beijing, but Almaty will not get the Games for the fact that IOC won't have 3 Asian Olympics in a row.
Gold Coast Lions
I agree with you on Beijing, but Almaty will not get the Games for the fact that IOC won't have 3 Asian Olympics in a row. Funny that people were saying the Asia will never have a back to back Asian Games and looked what happen, The IOC want to tour Asia more and the IOC see a massive market for sports in Asia, the oddds or Sweden and Norway bids getting government support is not looking that great and Norway is been there down that already. FYI
Almaty is the only bid which have something new and a new place and new region for the IOC to go to. Not true. Sweden, Poland & China have never hosted the Winter Olympics, either. Funny that people were saying the Asia will never have a back to back Asian Games and looked what happen, The people that were pragmatic, weren't. It was people like you, with black-&-white mentality, that were. Anyone that was totally objective could see that Tokyo 2020 was going to get the Games, considering it was up againt only two other weaker bids. Even the bookies had Tokyo as the favorite. It was all the bias Madrid & futureToronto (wanting to see Europe outta the way for 2024) supporters here that were saying that back-to-back Asian Olympics couldn't happen. This isn't the case for 2022, though. There's three (two of which would be a very reliable, safe pair of hands, much like Tokyo 2020) European alternatives that the could go with. Almaty Kazakhstan will be getting the 2022 winter games where ever people likes it or not, Not gonna happen, whether you like it or not. I see only 3 bidding cities that will make the Short list Oslo Norway, Almaty Kazakhstan and Beijing China. Or 2 Almaty Kazakhstan and Beijing China if Oslo Norway does not get government support, This is the ONLY way that Almaty could go to Kuala Lumpur, IF both Stockholm & Oslo pull out due to lack of government support. But this still remains to be seen. I can't see both the NOC & SOC pushing those bids through if there was no inkling of government support. And even if there wasn't, Beijing then would be getting 2022, not over-rated Almaty. Ukraine not ready The only thing that you've gotten right in your ling-winded, non-puntual post. the IOC don't allow joined national bids. They have never come out & said that. They've just never had a good enough reason to entertain one. And Krakow could have the potential of having a good enough reason to do so. Especially if Oslo &/or Stockholm falter. the Sweden are you kidding me the Sweden bid is an really bad joke. That about sums up all of your posts. yoshi
Tokyo got it because they were, let's be honest, the only practical candidate. If we'd had Toronto, Paris, any sensible city in the US, or Durban, Tokyo would've had more chance than Istanbul or Madrid against any of them but they wouldn't have won. StefanMUC
Besides all the debate about never having THREE Asian hosts in a row, it is even more unlikely to have same continents hosting back to back in one category anyway. So, an Asian bid would only succeed for 2022 if there were no bids from other continents, I'd say.
