LatinXTC
Approved? Why would they need approval if this was already a planned expansion, hence why it wasn't included in their budge for the games. Bloop! Nevermind lol it's just an extension. LatinXTC
Sochi 2.0? I mean that was already implied when the vote went in. The vote was clearly NOT about who had the more economical plan! A bid that had the majority of the snow venues already in place, has genuine winter weather and everything is within a reasonable distant VS a bid that has none of the outdoor events already in place, no snow and has to build a rail line in order to get to a lot of the events? Yea it's pretty clear.

Ikarus360
Why they picked Beijing again? Oh, that's right. Money. It's all the IOC cares about in the end. And people says FIFA are bad.

It's not like they picked Qatar for the winter games. As bad as the IOC is (and they are pretty bad) they can give thanks every day that FIFA exists and makes the IOC look better by comparison. Quaker2001
Why they picked Beijing again? Oh, that's right. Money. It's all the IOC cares about in the end. And people says FIFA are bad. What was their alternative? A no-name city in a central Asian country most people (and not just geographically-challenged Americans) could point out on a map? If we're going to bash the IOC for 2022, their big failure was scaring off otherwise worthy hosts like Oslo and leaving themselves in the predicament where their only options were a giant douche and a turd sandwich. Contrast that to FIFA which had the likes of South Korea, Japan, Australia, and the United States in the running, but instead chose Qatar in what has pretty much been proven was a decision that was almost 100% driven by bribery. And yes, like zeke said the IOC is a shining beacon or morality in comparison to FIFA.

gotosy
Beijing starts collecting emblem designs for 2022 Winter Games BEIJING started to collect emblem designs for both 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic games on Sunday. Designers from Beijing universities were the first to submit their works, with many more designed expected both online and offline in the coming 10 days. Beijing launched a worldwide campaign to seek designs for the emblems at an event held to celebrate the first anniversary of the successful bid for the 2022 Olympic Games in late July. "The designs should embody Chinese culture and the Olympic movement," said Zhao Wei, an official from Beijing 2022 Organizing Committee. A selection panel will pick 10 candidate designs from the applications, before the Beijing 2022 Organizing Committee choose one winning entry and two as back-up designs. The winner of the designs will be announced in the second half of 2017. http://www.shanghaidaily.com/sports/olympics/Beijing-starts-collecting-emblem-designs-for-2022-Winter-Games/shdaily.shtml

Is there such a thing as a wealthy (in the sense of "able to spend money without worrying too much about the consequences") democracy? zekekelso
Wealth isn't what allows a country to spend recklessly on the Olympics; it's being isolated from the consequences. There are lots of rich democracies, but they will be outspent by poorer dictatorships
