GBModerator
This torch sold for $16,100... Was it worth it? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-and-Unused-Sochi-2014-Olympic-Torch-with-the-Original-Torchbearer-Suit-/261303249859?hash=item3cd6e32bc3
baron-pierreIV
No. The HOC (Hellenic Olympic Committee) is so graft-ridden that it's easy to make a few individuals in Greece rich by always demanding the first 300 torches for their part of the relay. That torch must've had serial no. 1, 2 or 3 to command that price. Since it comes with a suit, I think it was snuck away by someone on the Greek escort team who was able to get a suit as well...but got this one separate from the batch of torches designated for the Greek run. But it's just one of 16,000. There'll be so many of those floating around by Dec 31st. But it's still nowhere near the $160,000 paid for a Helsinki 1952 torch sold in Greece in 2006; or the $247,000 paid for a Grenoble torch in Paris last October 2012. GBModerator
It seems you are right - it is unused and comes with the fuel container which I believe they remove before returning to torch bearers.
