baron-pierreIV Posted November 10, 2013 Author Report Posted November 10, 2013 Rising fast...or slow... It looks like there's a "cup" on top. (Needed for the strong winds in that area, I guess.)
runningrings Posted November 10, 2013 Report Posted November 10, 2013 Ah. I get we're they're going with all of this now. It's all an ode to Russia's endeavours in Space. I have a feeling now that this, as a theme, will play a role in the Opening Ceremonies - perhaps in a similar vein to the NHS segment in London. The reason I think this is that with the torch in space being the one that will light the cauldron - it is the cauldron that is inspired by (it must be) the monument to Soviet space achievement in park in Moscow. *i get where they are
PyroKinesis Posted November 11, 2013 Report Posted November 11, 2013 Looks nice. Should be fun to watch. Not too much longer now!
Mr Tickle Posted November 12, 2013 Report Posted November 12, 2013 Has this been posted, you can see the possible cauldron at 0.34
ofan Posted November 12, 2013 Report Posted November 12, 2013 Has this been posted, you can see the possible cauldron at 0.34 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4eAP070FNI&feature=c4-overview-vl&list=PLuJ5T3oX9PHXdJhTwiONkRWxVuwofmx9r Wow. That is 100% the cauldron. When was that video posted?
baron-pierreIV Posted November 12, 2013 Author Report Posted November 12, 2013 Wow. That is 100% the cauldron. When was that video posted? It says there Aug 1, 2013. I always suspected that the cauldron would be in the central circle becuz that would be the logical place for the Awards Plaza. Therefore, a cauldron would reign over that area. It is, as I also suspected, in a direct "sightline" from the plaza-facing mouth of Fisht. Thus, after a "show" cauldron will be lit inside, it will then travel by ground to the (back) base of the pylon (I think that's the right word for it) and then up the spine of the pylon to the top.

Yeah. Exactly. No, they won't fly the flame because that totally wastes the slope of the pylon. Why bother to give it that graceful slope if all you are going to do is to fly it? Might as well just erect a straight pole. There is a more dramatic build-up to the flame working its way up the back/spine of that incline.
Nemo Posted November 12, 2013 Report Posted November 12, 2013 I'm starting to doubt that this is the cauldron. I think it's too simple to be the cauldron, especially if the Russians are attempting to be the "Beijing of the Winter Games." I'm feeling a "Orbit Tower" vibe from this, in that it's a red herring that everybody thinks will be part of the cauldron then ends up having nothing to do with it. If you look at the construction shot, where it's sitting next to the stadium doesn't seem to line up in anyway with the stadium's openings and which would make for a really anticlimactic lame cauldron lighting. I think they have another trick up their sleeve that we won't see until February 7.

They're $50 billion and counting; down to the wire and past deadline for Fisht? And they will indulge in "cauldron red herring" games? Get real. More power to your 'conspiracy' theory.
yoshi Posted November 12, 2013 Report Posted November 12, 2013 A firebird. There must be a firebird. Unless they beam the flame into space & back into the cauldron, ala Montreal
baron-pierreIV Posted November 12, 2013 Author Report Posted November 12, 2013 A firebird. There must be a firebird. Unless they beam the flame into space & back into the cauldron, ala Montreal I think you'll see a lot of the Firebird theme acted out inside with the lighting of the "show" cauldron.
baron-pierreIV Posted November 13, 2013 Author Report Posted November 13, 2013 My, that's a pretty BIG red herring! (To me, it looks more like the prow of a Viking shop than anything else now.)
ofan Posted November 13, 2013 Report Posted November 13, 2013 Baron where are you finding these pics?
Anthony Posted November 13, 2013 Report Posted November 13, 2013 That silver bucket at the top is where the flame will be.
baron-pierreIV Posted November 13, 2013 Author Report Posted November 13, 2013 Baron where are you finding these pics? Ah! My secret mole w/in the Sochi construction crew!! And if my hunches are right, the flame will probably be lit from 3 places: one coming in from Fisht; and then they might have 2 lighters at the tip of each semi-circle. Thus, the 3 flames will meet at the base of the tower, and then work its way up to the top.
Mr Tickle Posted November 13, 2013 Report Posted November 13, 2013 That last pic makes it obvious this is the cauldron, its a stylized firebird, long neck, head at the top forming the point of the beak at the front and with the wings forming the circle in front. If this isn't the cauldron I will eat my hat
yoshi Posted November 13, 2013 Report Posted November 13, 2013 SSC. I tried posting but the forum told me they were in an invalid format. I would imagine it will all be lit red on the night so it looks like a giant firebird from the sky.

Or a stylized plesiosaurus? I think this also might be the FIRST Olympic cauldron that will have pulsating lights as part of it. I think the "wings" might have lights that will pulsate up to the neck and up to the flame, at night.
Victor Mata Posted November 13, 2013 Report Posted November 13, 2013 Aspire Tower in Doha is probably the first LED cauldron tower. Check this bling
baron-pierreIV Posted November 13, 2013 Author Report Posted November 13, 2013 Aspire Tower in Doha is probably the first LED cauldron tower. Check this bling Ah. But #1 - that's NOT an Olympic cauldron; and #2 - that wasn't even the primary cauldron for Doha 2006. OK, so it was the Tower cauldron.
illustrado Posted November 13, 2013 Report Posted November 13, 2013 Aspire Tower in Doha is probably the first LED cauldron tower. Check this bling Ah. But #1 - that's NOT an Olympic cauldron; and #2 - that wasn't even the cauldron for Doha 2006. It's just a piece of bling. yes it's not but i do know it was a secondary cauldron i think sochi will have a show cauldron (crossing my fingers that they will for london 2012's puzzle like cauldron) and outside cauldron (the but fire bird thing) the video has no sound. also skip to 7:45
baron-pierreIV Posted November 13, 2013 Author Report Posted November 13, 2013 /\/\ Tx for the clarification, illustrado. (Obviously, u're OK after Haiyan since u are now posting back on FB. Good to know.)
illustrado Posted November 13, 2013 Report Posted November 13, 2013 ^ i live in the north of the country so i wasn't affected but it's still sad
yoshi Posted November 14, 2013 Report Posted November 14, 2013 Another couple of good pics from Baron's secret agen...um...the SSC Sochi thread The second one surely proves beyond all doubt that this is the cauldron...talk about the opposite of London.
