baron-pierreIV
Same reason the Beijing OC went for synchronised patterns; it demonstrates precision and discipline if done correctly, but looks ragged with inadequate training. No. I don't think so. The Rockettes and their Tokyo counterparts exhibit world-class precision and synchronization bar none; and needless to say, neither is from a totalitarian state. There is something deeper psychologically in the fascination with it. It has to do with might and brute force.
Rob2012
It's both a love of uniformity that such regimes have and the fact it's incredibly hard to do for any length of time. Brute strength, stamina and uniformity. Easy to see why authoritarian regimes love it.
Olympian2004
I believe we will definitely see goose steps at some point in the opening and/or closing ceremony. At least when they hoist the Russian flag. I believe the Russians simply can't do some sort of military parade without goose steps.
Nacholympic
Anyway, the totally perfect syncronization, bordering madness, reminds us totallitarian regimes. Just pay attention at the Mass Games in North Korea, totally mass perfect, but ... oh! such poor people!!!! They make it for a box of groceries which includes a chicken, the big prize. Look at the Opening ceremonies for FIFA World Cup in Argentina 1978, under a military regime http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23oWt_gcrTQ

There is something deeper psychologically in the fascination with it. It has to do with might and brute force. The Rockettes etc. come from the western music hall / variety / circus tradition of entertainment based on displays of skill, such as knife-throwing and acrobatics. Their skill happens to be synchronised movement, but it has no military connotations (although marching bands do, and are probably more widespread in America than in Europe). Rob2012
A new daveypodmore original signature....love it! (I do like both of those logos though, unlike many here) The challenge will come in four years when you've got to try to make a sig from Pyeongchang's thing!
Mr Tickle
Im retiring he he. It all started cause I wanted to show the possibilities of the 2012 brand, its all over now so until the 10th year anniversary I doubt there will be any new sigs. olympiaki-agones
Anyway, I definitely want to stick to the idea of using that Zhar-Ptitsa legend linking it with the Black sea scenario as part of the Greek Mythology and the Prometeus legend. Many of you here have stated it with that Igor Stravinsky Bird of fire. It definitely make me excited to see it picture in the cauldron lighting. And I'm sure many here would like to see it

Olympian2004
And then there'll be the 10th anniversary of London's win in Singapore next year... Besides Rio, 2016 will also bring the LEN Europan Swimming Championships to the Aquatic Centre. The IAAF World Championships in the Olympic Stadium in 2017 could give you an inspiration for another signature, too. Plus: It will be the fifth anniversary of the Games. In 2018, it will be ten years since the Olympic Stadium officially broke ground. And 15 years since London officially bid for the 2012 Games. And if I think a bit more, I'll most certainly find reasons for all years till 2112 for you to make at least one annual new London 2012 signature. Olympian2004
Why not? To the other readers: Sorry, I would dearly bring this thread back to its original topic, but don't have any new information on the cauldron at hand.
baron-pierreIV
I can add that I don't think there is going to be the LED lighting that I thought would pulsate to the top. I guess I was overthinking again. Why don't they ask me these things before they build & design???

adrianme17
New video I found online of the area around the cauldron. http://instagram.com/p/jgZfwqMPe7/ nice find - from what i can deduce that is the how the flame will be lit - by a fire work trail that will be lit in the stadium and go all the way to the base of the cauldron and then by fireworks to the cauldron itself - not unlike Turin in 2006 it would seem?!?! nice find - from what i can deduce that is the how the flame will be lit - by a fire work trail that will be lit in the stadium and go all the way to the base of the cauldron and then by fireworks to the cauldron itself - not unlike Turin in 2006 it would seem?!?! actually looking at this again - looks like that is actual gas fire rather than fireworks? Mr Tickle
I have to stop coming on the forum, I like to guess but I don't want to know he he. I agree it looks very Turin-like Edited January 23, 2014 by daveypodmore
