So, you think the IOC is lying to everyone with their short list??? The don't believe Almaty can deliver, but are spreading lies and forcing Almaty to spend lot of money so they can say they have thre

Speakout out against injustice and discrimination = "shove it down their throats". PS - Anyone else find it amusing that men opposed to gay rights seem to always use that expression.

Ive been thinking lately allot about the Islamic world and I think socially the world is not ready for the Islamic world to host an OPG it will be an long time until they will host an OPG, Beijing China 2022 is the winner for the world socially, Most people I talk to in Australia for the past week wants Beijing China to host it will be great viewing for me as Perth is the same time zone as Beijing unless we have Day Light Saving again which is an great thing to have. .

So let's see if we have this one straight.. After months of preaching that Almaty would win, very defiantly telling anyone who disagreed that they were wrong, suddenly you've seen the light? Based on talking to people in a nation that is not all that big on Winter sport (although they've had their moments in recent year) and their personal preferences of what time zone would be good for Olympic viewing? And did you have a sudden epiphany about Kazakhstan that they are mostly a Muslim nation, particularly after you tried to tell us they were culturally European?

Finally, GCL has seen sense. Beijing 2022 will happen.

I've been saying it for ages that Almaty stood no chance. When Stockholm, Oslo, Krakow, Beijing, Almaty and Lviv were all in the race, I said Almaty only stood a chance if it was Almaty VS Lviv.

The biggest problem for an Kazakhstan bid is that it's an Islamic country, What is going on in the middle east now I don't think the world is ready for the Islamic world to host an OPG right now. The Kazakhstan is on the cross roads right now will they continue being an an Liberal Secular country once President Nursultran Nazarbayev dies or turn into another Iran and Turkey.

That is what I think Kazakhstan biggest problem right now being in Islamic country I think we might see Beijing China hosting the 2022 Winter Games but it will be an close vote in KL next year.

Bullshit. Kazakhstan is less religious than many western countries. And even if it was more religious, that should not be considered as an obstacle to host OG.

Anyway, I strongly believe that Almaty will get WOG 2022. I don't think IOC will turn its back to a new region awarding Beijing to host WOG in less than 20 years after SOG.

Right, you mean the same IOC that "turned their back" on a 'new region' by denying Istanbul 2020 & going to Japan instead for a fourth time, & when their last Games would be 22 years earlier. Yeah, okay.

There's more to the Olympics than just going to new regions just for the sake of it. And especially when that particular region already is located on a continent that's hosted their fare share of Games. If it didn't work for far more appealing Istanbul, it ain't gonna work in this case either.

The IOC has gone to a new country once in the last six picks, twice in the last fourteen.

They've gone to repeat cities three times in the last nine.

When you say "turn its back" you almost make it sound like it's a 1-time deal and that Almaty doesn't have a chance to bid again in the future.

As FYI and zeke alluded to.. a lot gets made sometimes of what happened before and what might happen in the future and you lose focus on the here and now of this race. So the question shouldn't be do they want to go to a new region. The question is do they want to go to THIS new region in THIS vote.

^^ Uuuh, I dunno, maybe everything? They do have some infrastructure from the 2011 Asian Winter Games (which weren't that bad to be honest but we're talking about a small scale event which was shared with Astana) but its not big enough for the Olympics. Plus, Almaty looks ugly compared to Astana and i'm pretty sure Nazaryavev noticed this and will spend lots of money trying to renovate and change the look of it just like they did with Astana back then.

Okay, well then it that case it makes sense. However, should that be factored into the Olympic cost or only costs associated with the venues and running be factored in?

I guess Tony is using is magic 8 ball for this Beijing 2022 thing.

Yeah, because it is not obvious they will host at all

Socially right now it's not an good idea to bring the OPG to the Islamic world with all the problems with the Islamic state. Unlike South America 2016 where it's is the Christian and Brazil the worlds largest Roman Catholic country. China is right now the socially right country in the 2022 bid race.

i've believe beijing will win instead that would be a slap in your face.....

i know that almaty have has more winter experience compared to beijing but however beijing has olympic experience that surpass people minds i'm sure this is the thing the ioc will consider and i think china has more superior government compared to kazakhstan i've already see how they prepared and i think they do it like declaring themselves as the miracle workers... besides in kazakhstan you can still protest a bit but however in china if you protest, you gone....

While I'm Happy that You have seen the reality of the situation at last, I still don't understand how within 1 Day, You have gone from Almaty's Biggest Fan, to Beijing 2022?

Also, if we are going to talk about problems, then Thailand and Israel also stand no chance of Hosting the Olympics. It was obvious from the start that Stockholm was the Favourite to Host 2022. Stockholm withdrew. Oslo then became the Favourite, Krakow was the back up plan. Krakow withdrew. Beijing then became the back up plan just in case Oslo withdrew. Of course, Lviv withdrew, but they weren't given much of a chance to Host. We then had Oslo VS Beijing VS Almaty. Oslo, the Favourite withdrew. Beijing will now Host the 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics. I know it, some People including Myself and FYI know it and at last You know it too GCL. Beijing 2022 Bid Team know it, China know it and the IOC know it.

Perhaps he came to an epiphany, much like u did, when you first joined & naively thinking that Lviv was going to win.

I see Tony posted here (he is blocked for me), Tony, what great knowledge and words of wisdom do you bring to this thread?

Do I care? Your obviously too focused on Me, because You have to post that You have ignored Me. Ignore Me. I don't care. Don't need to make a big deal out of it. I find it quite annoying that You think Your this Important, Smart, Original and well respected member, when Your not and many People who I have spoke to via PM find it funny how You try and act like one of those respected Members, when Your not.

Perhaps he came to an epiphany, much like u did, when you first joined & naively thinking that Lviv was going to win.

It took Me weeks to change my view on the situation. It took GCL 1 Day to change his view on the situation, so he obviously never believed Almaty would Host.

I believe Beijing will negotiate with Almaty and give them the chance. In the beginning, Beijing was just goofing around, they never expected to actually be so close to get now the main WOG. As others have pointed out before, China is not being so welcoming now because the protests in HK.

So, I guess China will trade anything with Kazakhstan in exchange of getting the Games. After all, many of us are tired and already indifferent to any massive sport event held in China. And if Beijing wins, I expect to see really repetitive and solemn Ceremonies. Just like the one in Incheon a few weeks ago. Didn't bother to follow anything.

The problem there is that the host city for the Olympics isn't voted on by "many of us." It's voted on by a select few. I'm with Stefan.. what exactly is China trading and negotiating to win this? I'm sure they realize now that a bid that probably wouldn't have been taken seriously given stronger competition is now in position to win it. But I don't see them having to do anything special to beat out 1 other bid when that bid is coming from Kazakhstan.

Extremely doubtful. Now that Oslo has officially withdrawn, I'm sure the IOC's focus has now shifted from a Norwegian front, to a Chinese one. It's not like China & Kazahkstan can "negotiate" anything on the IOC's behalf anyway. Especially when it's not in the best interest for the IOC in this very instance.

The HK protests are neither here nor there. By the time the 2022 votes comes around, they'll be a distant memory.

Seriously, if Beijing just wanted to 'give up' the Games to Kazahkstan, why not just withdraw themselves. Much easier to save face that way than to lose to a sub-par bid in the final vote from an obscure part of the world. And the Chinese are all about saving face.

And considering that China has only hosted just one "massive" sporting event (the 2008 Summer Olympics), it's very premature to say that "many" have grown tired & indifferent to another one. Especially when one considers the weak alternative in this case.
