Gangwon
The little translation incident just sums up why the question system is so bias towards English speaking (first language) cities. It's all just so awkward and difficult. The whole procedure makes it difficult to sound like you're giving a well thought out and confident answer. Im impressed at the Japanese language effort though, well done. I agree that there needs to be less criticism for language abilities, accent or way of speaking. I wasn't all that impressed with the answers though.

deloxley
As a Madrid native, I would be angry as hell if my taxes are used to deliver a shitty presentation! Let´s see what they do now... they have to focus on their strenghts and try to explain the weaknesses that are basically the economic issues. They should explain well that all the macroeconomic variables have turned around and that the country is actually getting out of the crissis and well, I think that as Madrid and the whole country is a very multicultural city (actually one of the countries with the higher % of foreign residents), they should mention that as well. And of course, they should play the emotional card as well because at the end of the day, the IOC already have the figures and facts about each bid and this is their chance to change their vote! dave199
Madrid has a great opportunity to take the bull by its horns with the presentation here. Istanbul's wasn't that great. Tokyo's was good but playing the sympathy card really rubbed me the wrong way and the "I'm about to cry" to win some votes came off as very contrived. The bid videos were great, the venue plan seems to be strong. They lacked at really answering the main points of questions trying to go around it. "We Guarantee", "There will be no problem with Fukishima", etc. It's like they're beating around the bush. Hopefully Madrid is well prepared to answer the questions that will be presented to them. We already know #1 it will be about the state of their economy.
Filipe_Golias
The Fukushima question would always be an issue, bue regarding the transport question by Prince Albert: they've built this bid for months and months, with the experience of a past bid on top of it - how couldn't anyone answer that clearly and unequivocally? mr.bernham
If Madrid gives a good presentation I think they'll take this. Both Istanbul and Tokyo failed at answering major concerns about their bids. Those answers were not persuasive. They really were not prepared, but I found that Istanbul had a more unique feel- despite Tokyo's emotions it seemed very generic to me.
mattperiolat
Damn, overslept and missed Istanbul. Here's the thing about Tokyo. I believe that they will deliver a safe and efficient Games, but it feels so slick, so polished, it feels sterile. Why should I feel excited if Tokyo gets the Games? I'm sure it would be fine, but I do not feel an excitement, a heart, to the bid. It feels like something for the converted, not to convert. YMMV of course. phandrosis
If Madrid does well, we can hope for a Madrid-Tokyo final round and let the best man win. I don't think Tokyo has really dropped the ball. They had a good presentation and showed the missing passion. The Fukushima problem should have been adressed more, but it's a very difficult thing to predict so their answers are based on the data they have, hopefully. deloxley
Are your trains safe? Nice question..like if accidents never happened in Istanbul of Tokyo. Ikarus360
That reminds me when certain prince of Monaco brought the ETA question on the table. Luckily since they pretty much gave up arms, that won't be an issue anymore.
