neige
Some other elements of this survey: "Do you know that Paris is candidate to host the 2024 summer games?" Strange to see that 68% of Indians and 65% of Chinese know Paris is candidate while only 27% of Britains know it "According to you, the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris is the assurance of having Olympic games ..." "Open, focused on sharing" is ranked #8 in this survey.

yoshi
Disappointingly low, but it's no surprise - this country tends to look across the Atlantic before looking across the Channel. I think you can be assured that we will be enthused by the prospect of another Olympics next door if you win though
LatinXTC
We really can't take the opinions of the Chinese and Indians too serious. They'll just be glad to be breathing clean air no matter what city would host

The French investigation threatens the Paris bid, especially if bribery is proven. https://www.google.com/amp/mobile.reuters.com/article/amp/idUSKBN16E19C but it gets worse. With bribery and ballooning costs, one name on the Paris team sticks out that could potentially connect Paris 2024 to the bribery troubles and ballooning costs in Tokyo. Etienne Thobois, a member of the Tokyo 2020 bid team who has gone on record stating that a bid he worked on always had an unacheivable, pie in the sky budget. I think Abrahamson is right, #shareparis is probably going to share more than just the good things, and with a powerful tool such as social media and the meat of a backlash already present, I won't be surprised if LA goes on to be the only city to make it to the finish line. With an election looming the government backed bid is likely to suffer the changing ideology of the government. These next few months are going to be pivotal for the Paris bid, and how it manages to navigate it. Does anyone have any Paris-related thoughts to this Paris-related post here in the Paris thread? I don't think there's any imminent danger of Paris dropping out of the race. It goes without saying the political situation there is something worth watching and this news is notable, but I'd be very surprised if Paris fell out of the running for the final vote in September.
mr.bernham
Please showcase to me an example where a far right government did not support their nation hosting the Olympics. Go on I dare you. TheOtherRob
What are the positions of the political parties and Presidential candidates with regard to Paris' bid? @Pure facts @neige @JO2024 @DamC ?? I seem to remember their previous bid enjoying cross party support. I certainly haven't heard of any serious political opposition being reported but sometimes things don't get picked up in English speaking media. Edited March 7, 2017 by Rob. I agree; if anything a far-right government would be all about nationalism and promoting themselves, so I would think that hosting an Olympics would be a vehicle for that.
