bairrosfelipe Posted June 23, 2015 Report Posted June 23, 2015 This flat desing seems so "amateur". Quote
Victor Mata Posted June 23, 2015 Report Posted June 23, 2015 It's too early to spend buckets of money on elaborate designs. And this flatness fits in Twitter very well. 1 Quote
woohooitsme83 Posted June 23, 2015 Report Posted June 23, 2015 I like it. Kinds reminds me of a Roster somehow. Maybe it's the color? Quote
Throne Posted June 23, 2015 Report Posted June 23, 2015 Congratulations Paris.....should you remain faithful to your standard of excellence you SHALL do very well.....very well indeed. Quote
Quaker2001 Posted June 23, 2015 Report Posted June 23, 2015 I normally don't like to call a city a favorite/front-runner, especially this early in the process. But that said.. We have a favorite/front-runner. We know Paris has been scorned before by the IOC, so far be it for Parisians to have forgotten about that. But moreso than any of their previous bids, this is the right time and place for a Paris bid to win. Bonne chance, Paris! 1 Quote
Rob2012 Posted June 23, 2015 Report Posted June 23, 2015 (edited) I normally don't like to call a city a favorite/front-runner, especially this early in the process. But that said.. We have a favorite/front-runner. Strong favourite at this time. No doubts at all in my mind Quaker. Paris was unlucky to be in a stellar field for 2012, the "new frontier" wildcard everyone was scared of (read South Africa) isn't bidding, America's bid is looking very flaky, the Paris team doesn't have a risky referendum to negotiate, and Rome and Hamburg to me both have a "Madrid 2012" vibe to them when compared to Paris (let's forget about Budapest). We've been saying for a few years Paris' greatest obstacle is its own uncertainty, it's own domestic politics not supporting another Olympic bid. Well, that's not true anymore. Everything recently suggests a resurgence in Paris' will and belief. That should seriously worry every other bidder. I'd be happy to risk putting money on France hosting. (I've just spent 5 mins looking for a bookmaker offering odds online but can't find any). Edited June 23, 2015 by Rob. 1 Quote
arwebb Posted June 23, 2015 Report Posted June 23, 2015 Paris will undoubtedly be a very strong technical bidder. The question is whether they can finally get over the line politically. Quote
bairrosfelipe Posted June 23, 2015 Report Posted June 23, 2015 Until now seems Paris have the stronggest bid. I was reading some articles in Portuguese about the bid of Paris, and most of the existing venues are and will be suburb the city, and will be able to renew and improve the lives of people in less popular places in the city. Paris wants to build including two new subway lines to connect these neighborhoods to downtown and other parts of the city. Thats very interessing. Quote
yoshi Posted June 23, 2015 Report Posted June 23, 2015 Allez Paris! Hamburg would be good too, but they'll get their time - a German summer games is 'due. Paris' third games, however, is decades overdue. Quote
FYI Posted June 24, 2015 Report Posted June 24, 2015 We've been saying for a few years Paris' greatest obstacle is its own uncertainty, it's own domestic politics not supporting another Olympic bid. Well, that's not true anymore. Everything recently suggests a resurgence in Paris' will and belief. That should seriously worry every other bidder. With another solid Paris Olympic bid, & this time with more passion, energy & a little more competitiveness, then I can't possibly see the IOC turning it's back on it once again. It would mean between 2012-2024, three outta four Summer Olympic Games would be held in three outta the four alpha cities of the world. Surely that's enough to make the IOC salivate. Especially in a time when many other (European) cities are shying away. So for France to overcome it's unwillingness & raise their hand yet again, should set off bells all the way in Lausaunne. Agreed. And the latest developments coming outta the Boston 2024 front seem to indicate that bid might very well be on the way out. And I wonder how much of that debacle influenced Paris' decision to finally go ahead & run, not having to really deal with "those Americans". Quote
Mainad Posted June 24, 2015 Report Posted June 24, 2015 Yep, Paris 2024 has recruted Mike Lee!!! http://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1028143/paris-turn-to-key-london-2012-figure-to-help-launch-olympic-bid-for-2024 Delicious irony! I don't think Lee has lost any bid he has ever worked on so that's yet one more card to pile on top of the many other cards already stacked in Paris' favour for this bid! Quote

JO2024 Posted June 24, 2015 Report Posted June 24, 2015 Indeed, much better to have him for Paris 2024 than for Hamburg, Boston, Rome or Budapest. Well done Paris on getting him! Smart move. He did after all helped London get 2012, Rio get 2016 and Tokyo get 2020, why would it stop there? Let's make it this time, come on!! I don't want to think of Paris as a frontrunner. We all know what happened last time it was a frontrunner. I think in the end we never know what's going to happen.... Quote
yoshi Posted June 24, 2015 Report Posted June 24, 2015 Yeah but there's being a close frontrunner against another of the world's absolute top cities that was in at the right time & right place for them, & there's being the frontrunner by miles against cities which are either bankrupt, have low international profile, or whose population simply don't wanna know. I can't see any way Paris doesn't win this - especially with the 1924 centenary. Quote
FYI Posted June 24, 2015 Report Posted June 24, 2015 Have to agree with virtually all of that, except for the 'centenary' part. Paris 2024 isn't going to play that up (as already hinted by their committee head), as they shouldn't. Their campaign should be based on merit & passion, & not simply bcuz of some nostalgic aspect that has no real bearing in the grand scheme of things. That element would only be for the Olympic history books. Quote

I'm terribly, terribly sorry. 1 Quote
Quaker2001 Posted June 24, 2015 Report Posted June 24, 2015 I don't want to think of Paris as a frontrunner. We all know what happened last time it was a frontrunner. I think in the end we never know what's going to happen.... Look at the history though? 1992, the vote was essentially rigged against them. 2008 was an all-timed bid. 2012, they were right there with big rival and came up just short of a win. I get that you don't want to get your hopes up and you're right there's a long time for all this to play out. But there were circumstances in their way those times that likely aren't around this time. Have to agree with virtually all of that, except for the 'centenary' part. Agreed as well. They don't need a ton of intangibles to win this. Playing up 1924 doesn't help their cause. Nor does reminding the IOC how they've bid and lost before. Their best bet IMO is to wipe the slate clean in terms of all their past history and play to their strengths. ETA: To that end, Parisians should do the same as well. Don't be jaded by what happened in 1986 and then again in 2005. It'll be ancient history by 2017 and shouldn't scare Paris off from making an effort when this might be lining up for them like it never has before. Quote

George_D Posted July 13, 2015 Report Posted July 13, 2015 2024 Olympics: Tony Estanguet visiting La Rochelle, Friday, July 10 The Delegation of Ambition Olympic and Paralympic Association and the French Sailing Federation began this week its inspection visits to candidate sites for the sailing events of the Olympic project of Paris in 2024. After Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) Monday, Hyères (Var) Tuesday, Brest (Finistère) Wednesday and Thursday Morbihan, the delegation will travel to La Rochelle tomorrow. Tony Estanguet during the presentation of the interim results of the scoping study in November 2024 Paris 2014 (Appropriations - Sport and Society) On this occasion, Tony Estanguet, French member of the International Olympic Committee and one of the two leading figures of Paris 2024, will travel in Charente-Maritime according to information from France 3 Poitou-Charentes. This coming owes nothing to chance in view of the past of La Rochelle. The city was indeed an official candidate for sailing events for the 2008 Olympics and 2012 with the water Minimes. But the successive failures of Paris in the race games have finally won Olympic ambition of the port city. It is therefore with a certain legitimacy that La Rochelle retry the Olympic adventure for 2024 . But if his favorite status was evident at the last two Olympic projects, it is not the same today. Five cities and territories and stand before her, Le Havre (Seine-Maritime) and Hyères is even the most formidable postulants under the communication project and mobilization on the ground. http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?depth=1&hl=fr&rurl=translate.google.fr&sl=fr&tl=en&u=http://sportetsociete.org/2015/07/09/jo-2024-tony-estanguet-en-visite-a-la-rochelle-vendredi-10-juillet/&usg=ALkJrhisxSPhGzJ_B2q1cuChTPzN0orOAQ 2024 Olympics: The festivities of July 14 in the colors of the Paris bid Quote
