The issue here is your inability or refusal to attempt to understand how a word is operating within a sentence. I'm not going into battle over syntax choices.

You're creating mountains out of molehills.

No; I'm not. The phrase stood out wrong and it needed clarification. It wasn't even a personal choice; it is undisputed that it was Paris' best bid of recent years -- so your INCORRECT phrasing was blatantly wrong. That's all.

Ooh. SNAP!

Baron goes down again...

Not that he'll ever admit it.

He obviously meant Paris '92 was the worst and most painful, undeserved loss. It's totally clear in context. You just didn't read it and now you're trying to blame runningrings for your mistake.

Everybody makes mistakes. I misinterpret things. Why is it so hard for you to admit you're wrong? It's not a big deal.

Y don't you SHUT UP? I haven't been talking to you for the last month or so. But of course u haven't noticed that. BACK TO IGNORE.

"An Olympic bid isn't only a technical bid about equipment and competition sites, it's also a question of the social acceptability of the project for the country," she added.

Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta said late Sunday that the country could be "serious candidates" for 2024 with either Milan or Rome.

I’m sure Italy will organize an extraordinary SOG in 2024 and wish them all the best.

I look forward to travelling to Rome for the games.

Unfortunately true. London 2012 was perfect. Paris started bidding when the competition got tough. The 70s or 80s would have been easier.

Saw this article the other day (in French):

http://www.lefigaro.fr/jeux-olympiques/2013/07/05/02020-20130705ARTSPO00728-crise-ouverte-entre-la-ministre-des-sports-et-le-cnosf.php

Basically, the French NOC (CNOSF) and the sports minister, Valérie Fourneyron, aren't speaking to each other any more.

It's all down to public funding which is drying up and the setting up of a national sports council.

Last July Denis Masseglia, head of the CNOSF, actually walked out of two meeting with the sports minister.

Doesn't really bode well for the future.

Does it?

Interesting, is Milan even interested? If Paris really doesn't give a frick anymore, perhaps the Italian Parigi could be the consolation prize.

RobH used to have a sig spoofing the Rio map, with White City, Wembley, & Stratford highlighted, with the strapline "The map that will win Croydon the Olympics"

Yes, I did.....that was a while ago....well remembered! :huh::)

I'll never forget that sig, it was brilliant. Does anyone know where the gallery thread of all daveypodmore's sigs is? His sigs were amazing, he used the 2012 logo far better than LOCOG ever did.

That's definitely true.

If Paris bids, but Durban also presents a credible bid, what will happen when Paris loses a fourth time?

Then Paris shouldn't bid. And Durban will NOT mount some half-assed bid. RSA came in #3 in the 2004 race, they have hosted the OTHER biggest event on the planet, a World Cup; and they have hosted the IOC itself. They have bided their time to ensure that the timing is right even on the home front. Further, their IOC rep is on the IOC Executive Board that it's NOT like he doesn't know what it requires to win. It will be more than a pleasant surprise for me when people here are proven wrong and RSA takes 2024...or 2028 if they so choose.

Couldn't agree more. If Durban bids, they'll win. Even if I still think that the US hasn't bidded in a long time, that there IS a desire for an American olympics, and that a great US bid could overtake Durban by showing more quality & glitter, and underlying Durban's potential shaky aspects.

People here being proven wrong? I think a majority of people here think just like you, that Durban is a favourite. The international media also do.

In any case, I agree with you, Paris shouldn't bid. And that's what the lil reminder was for, as I know a handful of people in Paris may have a short memory. I was in middle school teen in 2005, and I don't. ^_^
