But because Paris 2024 is using/renovating so many major venues for set of Games or the other, they are factoring 2 weeks plus 3 days to get all that work done.  Not to mention also removing all the stands along the Seine -- and what? breaking down the Trocadero installations, the Des Invalides, and the Beach volleyball venue at Champs du Mars.

Most you mentioned are being re-used. Eiffel Tower becomes blind football, Invalides is hosting archery again, Grand Palais is doing fencing/taekwando again. It’s basically the same tweaking of venues as for any paras. Concorde is probably the biggest change around, but that’s the beauty of the temporary structures they used.

The stands at La Concorde have not been removed and rebuilt in another shape. According to the venue map of the ceremony, only some of them have been removed (or maybe not removed at all, but not used for the ceremony) and two have been installed but most of them are reused as is.

La Concorde 1 was the 3x3 basketball and breaking venue, La Concorde 2 was for BMX freestyle...

1 bis was basketball warm-up courts so they certainly have added stands here. I don't remember what was at 2 bis but I guess it's a similar situation.

From my memory (3 weeks is a long time!!), there was nothing at the 2 bis area, just open space between the 3x3 and the BMX with some booths maybe.

The metallic horse of the Olympic opening ceremony (trivia of the day: its name is Zeus) is exposed at the town hall during Paralympics. Like the cauldron, it can be seen for free but a registration is needed. and a lot of days are already sold-out (availability only from September 2 to 6 right now), so be quick if you want to see it.

Booking on the website of the city of Paris: https://www.paris.fr/evenements/venez-admirer-zeus-le-cheval-metallique-de-la-ceremonie-d-ouverture-des-jeux-de-paris-2024-66990

News about the future of the 1.2 million items of equipment used during the Games. 75% were rented, some will be given to French sports federations or collectivities, a platform has been set up for professionals who'd like to buy some equipment and for what remains, it will be sold during flea markets. The first one will be at Mulhouse on September 15 and several events are planned across France.

Yeah I don't really like that tbh. The giant Olympic rings are for the current host city, in their buildup & during their games. Maybe they could have a small set like the one outside the velodrome in London, in the Trocadero or Saint Denis. If Paris wants a large permanent memorial of 2024, which they totally deserve to have...well there's a massive & rather beautiful hot air balloon/ring of fire by the Louvre which I get the sense most people would like to see stay there for future generations to see & admire, like that other temporary landmark of Paris ;)

The decision has been quick for the rings because the city of Paris is the sole owner of the Eiffel tower and the only thing needed was IOC's agreement to not have to remove them. But I wouldn't be surprised if in a few months/years, we hear something like "well, it's too heavy for the tower, we need to remove them".

The cauldron will probably need some modifications to stay, which require special autorisations because the garden is a protected place. Also, this place is a property of the French State. And we still don't have a real government to think about it right now.

Another item on the list of what will be kept: women's statues will probably be installed on Rue de la Chapelle.

The thing is were those installations made with materials meant to last -- like titanium or high-grade steel?  Maybe the rings and the balloon were made with medium-quality steel (like . .. ahem . . . the crumbling medals  ) so after 2 or 3 months, the rings and the balloon will start to corrode and fall apart.  In which case, they will be taken down.

Maybe it's the IOC's gift to Paris for literally waiting an entire CENTURY to host their next Summer Games! ^_^

But don't most Olympic cities have the Olympic Rings somewhere permanently after they hosted? I know Atlanta still has theirs in Centennial Olympic Park. Although, IDK if I'd call those the "giant" Olympic Rings.

That was a bit of a talking point in one of the L.A. threads the other day, where would L.A. 2028 put theirs if not on or near the Hollywood sign. Where did they have them in 1984. Did they even do the giant rings back then? Is that something relatively new. I can only think of the top of my head, since 2000 'til now, about a handful of cities doing the big giant rings:

Sydney 2000 - on the Harbor Bridge

Vancouver 2010 - right there on the water in front of Downtown

London 2012 - on the Tower Bridge

Tokyo 2020ne - on Tokyo Bay

Beijing 2022 - was theirs the rings & the entire 2022 emblem?

And of course Paris 2024 on the Eiffel Tower (the most iconic to date)!

Munich just got a (non-coloured) installation in the Olympiapark two years ago actually, nothing before.

Thing is, I would've been horrified if Boris Johnson (then Mayor of London) had announced in a rush of blood to the head that the rings on Tower Bridge would be staying up forever. 99% because it's permanently branding a world landmark (I hesitate to use the word vandalism but it'd be close to that imo). But also, 1% for other reasons such as, y'know, sometimes seeing photos/films of London, spotting those rings in the background and knowing they were taken in that brilliant Summer of 2012.

The permanent set of rings in London is in the Olympic park in front of the velodrome (here's me in 2014)...

I don't think the Olympic rings will stay at the Eiffel Tower. The mayor of Paris got a little too excited, let's say. But she will quickly come to her senses:

- Many Parisians are against it, including one of Gustave Eiffel's descendants who publicly showed his opposition
- In any case, the rings are too heavy to stay there in the long term. This is particularly problematic for winter storms, not sure they will hold up against strong gusts of wind of over 100 km/h.

As a new Parisian, I am in favor of keeping these rings, but putting them somewhere else. Why not at the Parc de la Villette. That's where Nations Park used to be, probably the most festive place in the city during the Games.

She's chosen the wrong thing to stay in place - keep the cauldron, move the rings  I don't know Paris well, so it may be that Parc de la Villette is there anyway, but I'd have thought something should belong permanently in Saint Denis. Either the rings or Sequana's horse :)

Paris NEEDS a Musee Olympique -- ANOTHER MUSEUM!:P  Take it there!!

It's true that we could make a small permanent pavilion, a free museum where we would exhibit things related to Paris 2024. Perhaps also things related to Pierre de Coubertin, but I imagine that everything is in Lausanne?

No; there is his estate outside Paris.  And between the 3 major Olympic museums of Lausanne, Barcelona and Olympia, Greece, you could have a sharing arrangement whereby Exhibits could rotate?
I also have a friend in Greece who has a major Olympic TORCH collection.  It was exhibited in Antibes before the Games but the arrangements for Paris fell through at the last minute.  So, maybe collectors like him could find a public home for his collection??

Eventually -- and I guess if the IOC can finance the travel costs (transporting art pieces and the insurance can be quite costly -- but maybe Allianz can cover the insurance end of it), there could be a global network of Olympic Museums rotating their collections -- Lausanne, Barcelona, Olympia, Colorado Springs, I know there's one in China -- and then add sister museums in Paris, London and New York.  Might as well include the Paralympics since they are almost viewed as one pair now.

I agree, everything has its time and after a few months or even weeks after the Paralympics ended, I guess that almost everyone (maybe even Anne Hidalgo herself) will grow tired of seeing the Olympic Rings on THE most important Paris landmark. And I guess it will make maintenance works for the tower easier if the workers don't have to maintain the rings as well. So yes, why not move the rings to another place, where it can be accessed easily by the general public and they can take some nice pictures with them (something that is not even really possible right now, unless you take a picture of yourself from the ground and at quite a distance, with the Eiffel Tower in the background)?

and if they do stay, it will only be for a short while. Parisians will not want the rings there when there is no purpose.... the games have ended.

There's a blast from the past! I don't know how exactly it works in France, can Macron just name anyone (seemingly regardless of the results of the actual election...), because if he can then he could've had Estanguet if he'd just waited another week . I did joke during the Olympic closing ceremony that I wasn't sure if he'd be more likely to be president of the IOC or president of France in 10 years...

(Or if all else fails, there's a load of Phryges gonna be needing something to do soon)
