Any Olympic committee has 3 major goals to meet: (1) Budget, (2) attendance and (3) organization---transportation, housing, security, ceremonies.

The 2024 OOC is doing better in (1) budget than any games over the past 30 years, outdone by maybe only Atlanta 1996.

Paris in terms of (2) ticket sales and attendance are also reportedly outdoing 1996.

The 3rd category, however, doesn't seem better than other games. Athletes have been complaining about the Olympic Village (furnishings, food, having to bring their own air conditioners), some have said games-only transportation isn't fast enough, the event that took place on the Seine River wasn't ideal (reports of dirty water) and the opening ceremony was wackadoodle.

As for LA 2028, my prediction is it will do well in terms of mainly budget. But that's assuming no natural or man-made disaster occurs in LA over the next 4 years.

As for attendance and aspects of organization, 2028 probably will be more typical of other games, more like London 2012 than Paris 2024. For both better and worse.

The 2028 OOC has one advantage over host committees of other games: Not needing to build a village and staffing and managing it for the first time in its existence. The UCLA campus for decades has been hosting thousands of people, obviously mainly students.

Rest assured, Aussies know how to organise and stage many highly successful world sporting events. We’ve done it for decades and at Brisbane 2032, we’ll pull it all together as we always do, shine on the world stage and have fun doing it in organising our third Olympic Games down under.

Not to put shade on Brisbane, but I liked the idea of Sydney bidding for another summer games.

Not sure how internal Australian politics works and the way that the IOC itself would have treated a Sydney repeat, although Beijing playing host to both a summer and winter games within 20 years is one answer.

When the US Olympic committee was fielding candidates for host American cities, the notion of selecting LA was originally seen as too much "been there, done that." LA got the nod only because Boston dropped out after being chosen.

Syndey is the best that Australia has to offer, especially showcasing the city and the country.  No one, even people from the state of Georgia, would say that about Atlanta.

“Sydney is the best Australia has to offer?”  Really?

You need to visit Australia and see all the wonders from down under.   Sydney has pretty spots but you aint seen nothin yet.

The Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games are taking place in Australia’s third largest city and in gorgeous tropical and sub-Queensland settings, from the rolling surf of the Gold Coast right up through Brissie, the Sunshine Coast, the Scenic Rim and far north Queensland in Townsville and Cairns home to the most beautiful tropical rain forests and the Great Barrier Reef.

Combine that with our skills and experience in staging highly successful world sporting events, and you can rest easy, Brisbane 2032 will again be highly successful as we welcome the world in 8 years time.

Neither Sydney or Melbourne can bid again as the IOC’s Olympics hosting window rule requires the Games July/August when it is too cold and too wet in both of those cities.

Lol, not so "tropical" when the August temps there are 70 for a high, & low's in the 50's. That's downright CHILLY for a SUMMER Olympics!!

For all the talk & articles, even a year ago, that the French were apathetic to these Games, oh how Au Contraire is that now judging by those MASSIVE crowds we are seeing at all the venues! I can't remember the last time I've seen crowds like this! Not even at London 2012.

I've posted a couple of articles within the last few months touching upon this previously, in this very thread, about after the last two Covid Olympics, & the havoc that the virus in general caused around the globe, & with two raging wars going on, that the world was just ready for a party! And what better one than the Paris 2024 Olympics! How much is all that playing out now, who knows, but all I can say (yet again) is I wish that I was THERE!!!

I'm sure the crowds will be there in L.A., too, but considering what else could be going on in the world in fours years time, I'm not sure the party there will be as robust. Especially here, in the U.S. which has hosted the most Olympics than any other country, & L.A. even having hosted just as recent as 1984. In Olympic years, that's like just yesterday, so they could be more ho-hum about it. Whereas Paris, has literally had to wait an entire century for it!

Oh, & another thing, has anyone else taken notice at ALL the celebraties that there are in Paris for these Games?! I can't recall ever seeing this many. I probably wouldn't have given it a second thought in L.A. come 2028, but IDK how I feel about seeing so many celebs in Paris right now.

As what seems typical in a lot of host cities, I'm sure Angelenos will start really catching the Olympic fever once it gets closer to show time.

And yes, NBC has really been playing up showing the celebrities in the stands.  I'm like 'who cares??'  As was mentioned in a previous post, celebs show up to sporting events all the time.

There'll be American noise and enthusiasm for our athletes for sure.  Maybe you're too young to remember LA '84 and Atlanta?  Chanting, whooping and hollering, the aforementioned "USA!  USA!", etc.

And yes, I did watch the swimming, and the Marchand races.  A lot of fans do that for their favorite swimmer when they do the breaststroke.

Too young to remember LA.  Definitely remember Atlanta.  Yes, fans do that for swimmers.  Rarely see that in the United States.  We don't cheer in unison like many other countries so, like a baseball game in Japan or a football match in Europe.  There will be "USA USA USA" chants for sure.  Will they be on par with what we heard for Marchand?  I have my doubts.  And again, if the tickets are really expensive as I imagine they will be, that may change the make-up of the crowds in attendance.

Well, yes, I agree. Who cares (that's kinda my point). I'm watching the Olympics to watch Olympians, not Hollywood stars. I guess I would've expected as much at LA 2028, but not so much at Paris 2024. If I wanna watch celebs, I'll just go watch a movie then.

Yes, really.  I visited Australia.  Got to Sydney and Melbourne during the Women's World Cup last year.  Didn't get the Gold Coast area.  I don't doubt there are some amazing sights there and yes, I would love to get for the Olympics.  But if I only had 1 city to choose to visit in Australia, I'm choosing Sydney.  Maybe that's the New Yorker in me gravitating towards a large city, but I stand by my statement

That's largely about them trying re-imagine primetime, especially since for the first time, they're airing marquee events live on the main network.  The primetime show isn't for sports fans.  It's for the folks who believe that the Olympics are a reality show that happens at night when it's convenient for them, and not necessarily on another side of the world where the time difference may not be convenient.

Well, since we're talking about the atmosphere of the Games in Paris, I think it's time for me to taste the Parisian atmosphere of the Olympics? (but unfortunately no ticket for an event, just the city but that will already be very good)

Enjoy your time there! And maybe you‘ll still get the chance to find a nice ticket!

I don't know if the organisers of future Olympics read this forum, but someone needs to tell LA that they need a new pole vault setup. Duplantis didn't just clear the bar, he cleared the posts

Well, it's impossible to get a ticket on resale because they go so quickly. No problem, I'll probably make up for it for the Paralympics since I'm going to become a real Parisian.

I went to the Parc de la Villette, where there are about ten or fifteen Team Houses. It was very nice. I think it's the first time that there's been such a gathering in the same place, a bit like a mini-universal exhibition? (of course the Team House concept is not new)

In any case, lots of international tourists who seemed happy to be there. Impressive presence of volunteers on public transport. Quite funny, the contrast between transport in the suburbs where I almost fought someone who refused to move so that we could get out, and literally 10 minutes later in the Paris metro with an almost bar atmosphere. But it also helps us remember that Paris remains a bubble, and that even if there are efforts being made to try to integrate the suburbs into the party, we still feel the difference (in many other aspects, not just this anecdote).

Every sport has different requirements for someone to shine, so these comparisons don‘t really make sense anyway.

Duplantis may be the most sensational pole vaulter while Biles is the most sensational gymnast. Then there‘s Phelps as a swimmer though however there‘s also Ledecky. Who‘s more sensational anyway? Etc etc.

All these people excel in their sports and that‘s it.
