I‘m now on the way back after almost a week and can tell that it was absolutely amazing. Not only because of my first Olympics, but what France and Paris in particular made out of this golden opportunity.

The best images and scenery for the competitions that will be basically impossible to match for any future host (LA will at least have a different iconography though, but Brisbane, Doha or Rhine-Ruhr???), combined with very smart crowd management (except at the canoe slalom where I found it sincerely lacking for the amount of people allowed in) and signage that always made it clear where to go.

It is also very obvious that without the second/third generation immigrants from the Caribbean or Africa, none if this would have worked. They basically provide the workforce, volunteers - and many athletes - to make this a French success. All those RN voters should really hang their heads in shame.

Merci Paris et la France!

The advantage of going after Doha 2036: even industrial valleys in the depths of Germany will have more charm.

(meanwhile, Brisbane which will go after LA and Paris... ouch)

In the list of innovations of Paris 2024: at each session of the Games, the 3 knocks (tribute to French theater) are struck to open the session. And they are opened by "legends" (at least important athletes) of the sports in question.

For example, for yesterday's athletics session, it was Bob Beamon who opened the session.

And today, Christine Arron :

Renaud L this morning was well synchronised with the audio, the lady yesterday at archery was totally off :D

It is really a nice extra touch to the events!

Those scenes are just incredible! I can't even remember the last time I saw scenes like that to watch the outside Olympic road events. I'm so jealous, cause I so want to be there!!

Yeah, I think the whole reservation about Germany 2036 is a bit overblown by some. But maybe they also know something that we don't - hint, hint, wink, wink (India/Qatar).

IKR - cause I missed this incredible picture the first time I was in there, but man, you can't get more iconic than THIS right here (the pic below the twatter feed, cause I can't seem to get rid of that)!!!

These Paris Games are going to make a lot of other cities who would have recently said “meh”, to hosting a future games, reconsider.

Madrid, I’m looking at you!

Madrid finally recoiling had more to do with their three, consecutive losses than it had to do with them not wanting it. They were very tenacious at first, but their timing back then was just off.

This is a good point well made. There are only so many times a city can continually bid only to be shunned. I very much want and would support a Madrid bid though.

This tennis between Alcaraz and Djokovic right now is cementing Tennis as a must have Olympic sport. Absolutely sensational!

Add to this Golf. What an exceptional competition unfolding. Incredible. 2 sports that have a complicated relationship with the Olympics, absolutely shining today.

lol that article was ridiculous, though even CANADA has a marchand equivalent these days. this must be the true source of the animosity.

however, the aussies have done very well in the pool regardless.

I know, it's sad. Cause I can't help but wonder how much better the ceremony could've been had it not been for the rain. Cause you know they had to of cut some things out from the ceremony due to the rain. But at least the CROWDS & the action at these Games makes up for it!!

Madrid just chose bad timing when they placed all of their previous. But now with Barcelona '92 more in the rear-view mirror, whenever they try again, it'd be much less of a factor. Although, it would probably depend on who they go up against, too.

Germany hasn't hosted any Olympics (summer or winter) since 1972. And Rome, I am enamored with Rome, would make a great backdrop (like Paris has been at these Games) for an Olympics. While these things aren't exactly linear (all one has to do is look at the 2012 race as an example), I'd prefer Germany in a contest like this. If it were to be just between Rome & Madrid, that'd be more of a toss-up from my POV.

That’s an incredibly silly article. I don’t know who that reflects on the worst - the reporter who I went out looking for clickbait, or the two mouthy Aussies they managed to find.

Most coverage from here is over the moon with Paris.

Exactly this.
this is a ridiculous article. The worst. It’s just … silly. Suggesting all Australian are a monolithic block who dislike all things France. Nonsense. This isn’t journalism .. it’s gaslighting of the worst kind.

Mmmm, made worse when France is awarded 2024 and 2030 and the USA 2028 and 2034.

Nice, but when I'm made King of the World, golf is getting banned.
